Peak Design expands Outdoor Line with new 18L Outdoor Backpack Zip & 4L Outdoor Sling

Peak Design’s Outdoor Line of backpacks and sling bags officially went up for sale in November of 2024 following a mind-blowingly successful Kickstarter campaign in which more than $3.5 million was raised by excited backers after Peak Design had sought just a $50,000 funding goal.

This week, Peak Design is expanding its highly popular Outdoor Line of backpacks and sling bags with two new size options, providing prospective buyers with yet another option to choose from if the preliminary item selection didn’t quite offer the correct size profile for certain users.

Outdoor Backpack Zip 18L

The first of Peak Design’s new Outdoor Line bags is an 18L Outdoor Backpack Zip, which is smaller than the original 25L and 45L Outdoor Backpack options.

The new Outdoor Backpack Zip 18L has a more compact profile and features a frameless design that works better for commuting than the larger Outdoor Backpack offerings. The aesthetics of the bag scream hiking and trailing, but don’t be fooled, because this bag is ready even for just about anything.

Despite being smaller, the Outdoor Backpack Zip 18L works with Peak Design’s seemingly unlimited array of packing tools, including packing cubes, camera cubes, and smaller packing bags for things like toiletries and electronics.

Peak Design ensures maximum comfort with its heavily padded shoulder straps, while providing ideal attachment points for the Capture Camera Clip – one of my favorite camera accessories to have on hand during a photo shoot.

The Peak Design Backpack Zip 18L is made from durable 100% recycled Terra Shell 210D ripstop nylon fabric, ensuring high abrasion and water resistance to keep all the goods you’ve nestled inside nice and safe from the horrors of everyday life. You can also equip the bag with a rainfly to make it 100% waterproof.

Thanks to a massive rear access panel, you can easily get to anything inside this backpack with a single zipper. The format of the bag is perfect for an everyday traveling photographer, a small travel trip, or a gym bag.

If you’re interested in one of Peak Design’s new Outdoor Backpack Zip 18L bags, then you can acquire one from the brand’s website for just $189.95 in either Black or Eclipse.

Outdoor Sling 4L

The second of Peak Design’s new Outdoor Line bags is a 4L Outdoor Sling, which nestles nicely between the original 2L and 7L Outdoor Sling bag sizes.

With its cross-body design, the Outdoor Sling 4L is ready for any adventure. With its not-too-big and not-too-small attitude, it’s capable of fitting your everyday essentials, including small cameras, snacks, everyday carry items, and more.

Peak Design built this bag to be comfortable, as made evident by its highly padded strap. The interior is lined with padded zipper pockets to keep your belongings safe, and the exterior is made with durable 100% recycled Terra Shell 210D ripstop nylon fabric to ensure not only abrasion resistance, but waterproof qualities thanks to a PU coating, a water resistance treatment, and weatherproof UltraZip zippers.

Because of its size, it’s intended for lighter items that won’t break your back – it’s not particularly suited for Interchangeable lens cameras. If you’re traveling light, whether on a trip or just around town, it’s a great choice.

If you’re interested in one of Peak Design’s new Outdoor Sling 4L bags, then you can acquire one from the brand’s website for just $79.95 in either Black or Eclipse.

Two bags, more options

Peak Design is always good about offering various size options, and the Outdoor Line of bags is likely to continue expanding as time goes on.

I’m a huge proponent of Peak Design bags because they carry a no-hassle lifetime guarantee. If something ever breaks, such as a zipper, they’ll fix it or send you out a new bag. Just make sure your product is registered with Peak Design beforehand!
