Emblem brings OS X inspired notifications to the iPad

Today at WWJC, Joshua Tucker revealed a new tweak that he created in collaboration with fellow developer, Kyle Howells. The tweak — Emblem — is an iPad exclusive that brings OS X inspired notifications to iOS.

Emblem features smooth animations, and swipe to dismiss among other things. Take a look inside as we give you a sneak peak of Emblem via our video walkthrough...

Merge is a brilliant jailbreak tweak that combines messages by contact instead of by address

The idea of iMessage is great. It allows you to easily chat with friends and family across all iOS devices and Macs without incurring SMS fees from carriers.

Though iMessage is extremely convenient, it does have plenty of opportunities for improvement, which isn't surprising, considering it's only been out for a little over a year. But Apple has been steadily making improvements, for instance, the latest update to OS X, allows Mac users to sync iMessages sent and received from phone numbers.

Another major issue that iMessage runs into is organization. For example, if you're chatting with a friend that has three separate iMessage ID's, each chat started with each individual ID will result in a new iMessage thread for that contact. That's a total of three threads, just to talk to a single contact. This, obviously, can become extremely disconcerting when trying to carry on a conversation. Wouldn't it be nice if you could easily combine messages by contact, instead of iMessage ID?

That's the exact premise behind Merge — a new jailbreak tweak from developers Joshua Tucker, and Andrew Richardson. Take a look inside as we explain how Merge works...

How to unlock the full iOS 6 Maps app on older devices

iOS 6 Maps is stepped in controversy, but not everyone hates it, including yours truly. I've never personally experienced any navigation issues with the iOS 6 Maps app, and for me, it's a huge upgrade over the stock Google Maps app of yesteryear.

One problem that I do have with iOS 6's Maps, however, is how dumbed down the feature is on older devices. Devices like the iPhone 4 get left out when it comes to true turn-by-turn navigation and Flyover (3D) support.

As usual, the jailbreak community comes to the rescue with a new tweak that unlocks iOS 6 Maps on older devices. It's appropriately titled: Unlock iOS 6 Maps, and it's a free download on Cydia's Big Boss repo. Take a look inside for a video walkthrough...

AntiTint removes the status bar tint in iOS 6

AntiTint is a recently released jailbreak tweak from Ryan Petrich that sets out to do one thing — remove the status bar tint found in iOS 6.

New with iOS 6 came the ability for a developer to tint the status bar to match or accent the color of the rest of their app. Many people have found this to be annoying, and would like to go back to the black status bars predominately featured in iOS versions prior to iOS 6.

If you're jailbroken, then doing so is as easy as installing this tweak. Take a look inside to see how it works...

AquaBoard brings water inspired effects to the Home screen and Lock screen

AquaBoard is a new tweak that allows you to add water effects to your iPad or iPhone. The effects can take place on your Home screen or Lock screen, or can be relegated to just one of the two.

Included with AquaBoard are numerous animations, tweaks, and settings to fully customize the effect to your liking. It looks good on the iPhone, but as you'll see in our video walkthrough, it looks really good on the iPad...

List of iOS 6 compatible jailbreak tweaks

Though iOS 6 hasn't been officially jailbroken yet, there is a developer hack available for users on older A4 devices. It's tethered, and requires you to manually install Cydia, so it's not something we really recommend. But it exists.

And because it exists, we decided to try and find out which of our favorite tweaks have been updated to support the new software. Luckily, we came across this list of iOS 6-ready tweaks by theme designer Adam Insull...

‘Xpandr 2’ makes Keyboard Shortcuts faster

If you're a blogger, then you'd be crazy not to use TextExpander. TextExpander is an app that runs on the Mac, that automatically expands shortcuts into larger lines of text.

For example, I have a shortcut named jb, which expands fully to the word jailbreak. It works with phrases to, for instance, jbt = jailbreak tweak. Needless to say, TextExpander is a life saver for those of us who have to type the same words and phrases over and over again, day in, and day out.

Apple introduced a sort of "TextExpander light" in iOS 5, and it came in the form of Keyboard Shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts work, but unlike TextExpander, they don't immediately expand; instead, the shortcuts appear as suggestions, and then you have to use the space bar to fully expand them.

Xpandr 2, is the jailbreak tweak that seeks to put an end to this issue. Check out our full video walkthrough inside...

This upcoming tweak will add water effects to your iOS device

AquaBoard is a new jailbreak tweak currently in development by Elias Limneos. As you'll see from the video inside, it adds cool water effects to your device's Lock screen, and Home screen.

Currently, the tweak is set to be compatible with the iPad, iPad 2, The new iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S. I'm pretty sure that at the very least, the iPod touch 4th generation will probably be shown some love as well.

How to jailbreak iOS 6 and install Cydia

iOS 6 was just released a while ago, and now we're going to show you how to jailbreak it.

First of all, please note that this is a tethered jailbreak, and it only works with A4 devices like the iPhone 4.

Secondly, since there currently isn't any jailbreak tool that will install Cydia just yet, we're going to have to go about installing Cydia using a manual process.

Still game after all of those asterisks? Then come inside, as we show you how to jailbreak iOS 6 final...
