How to hide the battery percent sign in the iOS status bar

I find it to be kind of odd, but some people really hate the percent sign that appears alongside the battery indicator in the iOS status bar. Our very own Sebastien Page is one such person.

Over the last few months, he's been lamenting about his disdain for the percent sign, and how he hasn't been able to find a jailbreak tweak that lets him remove the pesky little symbol. Many tweaks, like Springtomize, can customize the iOS status bar to a high degree, but the percent sign seems to be off limits.

Fortunately, there is a jailbreak tweak that can hide the percent sign, and it's been sitting under our noses for quite some time. The aptly entitled No percent sign is a jailbreak tweak that lets you easily hide the percent sign symbol on iOS.

Manage your clipboard in style with Paste

The Mac’s copy and paste function is generally not something I think about. Sure, I use it. In fact, I use it every single day. It’s just that I never have to think about it. It’s a universal constant. No matter what machine you’re on or what you are trying to accomplish, copy/paste always works the same way. It always does the exact same thing and with the exact same limitations. Dmitry Obukhov’s Paste seeks to change that.

CustomStatusBar: sanitize the iOS 8 status bar

CustomStatusBar is a brand new jailbreak tweak that allows you to customize the status bar in iOS 8. Customization is limited to hiding items, but in a future update you will be able to rearrange items in the status bar as well.

We've taken CustomStatusBar for a spin on video, and we'll show you how easy it is to clean up your iOS status bar in seconds.

Post to Instagram directly from your Mac with Uploader for Instagram

Most people’s biggest gripe with the photo sharing site Instagram is that they can’t upload photos directly from their Macs. There are a few workarounds for this, but most of them are intrusive, labor intensive, and far from user friendly. The aptly titled Uploader for Instagram seeks to simplify this process so that anyone can easily post from whatever device they choose.

VolumeStatus 2 adds a volume indicator to the Status Bar

One of the ways of finding out the current volume level of your device is to press the volume buttons on the side of your device. VolumeStatus 2 is a brand new jailbreak tweak that allows you to quickly determine the current volume level of your device directly from the Status Bar.

The tweak adds a volume indicator to the Status Bar that allows you to take a quick peek at the volume level without pressing the volume buttons. The tweak doesn't display the exact volume level, but it gives you an idea of how much the volume is. The icon is followed by curved lines indicating the device's volume level.

Protean: a full-featured Status Bar customization tweak for iOS 7

The Status Bar is a handy area of iOS that lets you take a peek at various information such as time, Wi-Fi, battery level, etc, from anywhere on your device. However, Apple restricts users from customizing it the way they want. A new jailbreak tweak known as Protean has been released to get rid of this restriction.

Developed by Elijah and Andrew, Protean adds many new features to the Status Bar and allows you to organize the items in there by positioning them on any side. The tweak also displays the applications that have a pending notification on the Status Bar and allows you to customize flipswitches such as Airplane mode, Auto Lock, etc, and add icons of connected Bluetooth devices.

The best jailbreak tweaks for the Status Bar on iOS 7

The Status Bar provides a great deal of information such as the time, battery percentage, network signal and more that is viewable from anywhere within iOS. The problem is, you don't have complete control over what shows in there, and you have even less control about how it appears. As a result, many jailbreak tweaks have emerged on Cydia that help you customize the Status Bar. To help you discover the best ones, we've compiled a list of the best jailbreak tweaks for the Status Bar on iOS 7.

Wink adds an on-demand Status Bar to your iPhone

The Status Bar provides a great deal of information such as the time, carrier, and much more which can be viewed from anywhere within iOS. Wink is a jailbreak tweak that's been available for a long time on Cydia but didn't receive the attention needed, solely because it is available on the developer's own repo rather than on one of the major repos.

Wink brings an on-demand Status Bar to your iOS device allowing you to view it only when needed. This means that the Status Bar will remain hidden giving you more screen estate.

#PlayMe2 displays the currently playing song’s details in the Status Bar

If you've been following iDB, you'll remember that Jeff reviewed a status bar tweak a few months ago known as #PlayMe. The same developer has now released #PlayMe2 which is a more stable version of its predecessor with fewer bugs, but it serves the same purpose.

#PlayMe2 makes your Status Bar more informative by displaying the name of the currently playing song along with the artist name in the Status Bar. The tweak will rotate between the time, song name and artist name in the Status Bar. This allows you to take a quick peek at what music is playing in the background without opening the music app or Control Center.

RebootToHDD: an easier way to switch between Mac partitions

Following our post on how to switch between Mavericks and Yosemite, iDownloadBlog reader Jack Stean took the script we featured and turned it into a full-fledged Mac application that sits in OS X's status bar. RebootToHDD does everything we explained in our tutorial, but without the hassle of copying and pasting script...

Easily theme your iPhone signal bars with ‘Meter’

Meter is an upcoming tweak that replaces the stock signal meters for the iPhone's cellular signal with custom themed meters. The signal themes, which are selectable via Meter's preferences, allow users to enjoy a different look in the iPhone's status bar.

Meter is developed by the same developer who brought us Circlet, a similar status-bar-item-altering tweak. While Meter isn't as ambitious as Circlet, it's a great compliment to the status bar, and looks awesome when paired together.

We got our hands on a preview copy of Meter to record a video demonstration to show how it works. Take a look inside for more details.

New Status Bar indicators tweak Circlet is available in Cydia

Circlet, a new stylish Status Bar indicators tweak we recently previewed in now available in Cydia.

Developed by Julian Weiss, this jailbreak tweak allows you to theme your Status Bar signal, Wi-Fi and battery indicator without the use of WinterBoard. Weiss notes in the description of the tweak that it is very lightweight, as "every "circlet" is generated as needed, without any assets saved," and no respring is necessary.
