Apple stops signing iOS 12.1.1 beta 3, halting downgrades to a jailbreakable firmware

In an unfortunate turn of events this week, Apple appears to have stopped signing iOS 12.1.1 beta 3 for most or all iOS devices. Before last night, this was the last jailbreakable firmware that could still be downgraded to via iTunes since Apple closed the signing window for the official iOS 12.1.1-12.1.2 releases exactly one month ago.

Hacker an unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd confirmed the unsigning status via Twitter in the wee hours of the night, shortly following up with reports saying that it was still being signed by Apple for certain devices. As expected, a couple of high-profile individuals such as rootlessJB 3.0 developer Jake James and OsirisJailbreak12 creator GeoSn0w confirmed that the firmware wasn’t being signed for their devices:

Unc0ver V1.0.2 released with fix for RootFS Restore issues on iOS 11.0-11.2.6 devices

Over the weekend, Pwn20wnd released unc0ver V1.0.1 to disable the integrated RootFS Restore feature because of a problem that appeared to impact certain handsets running firmware versions between iOS 11.0 and 11.2.6. But as it would seem, the clever hacker found a way to circumvent it.

In a bevy of Tweets shared Monday afternoon, Pwn20wnd denoted how the problem appeared impact handsets with pending OTA updates downloaded on them. Upon discerning the cause of the issue, the hacker responded by releasing unc0ver V1.0.2.

SemiRestore11 ‘un-jailbreaking’ tool for Electra1131 to be released “at any time”

Several years ago, Saurik released an un-jailbreaking tool known as Cydia Eraser so that jailbreakers could revert their pwned devices to a stock state any time they wished. But it hasn’t received any updates for some of the latest jailbreakable firmware versions, leaving much of the community in a state of confusion.

Fortunately, the Electra Team plans to change that. Team member Pwn20wnd announced on Monday the completion of an un-jailbreaking tool dubbed ‘SemiRestore11,’ which will roll back any jailbreak performed with Electra1131.

Last chance to restore your device to iOS 11.1.2 with futurerestore!

Update: iOS 11.2.6 is now unsigned. You can no longer use futurerestore to restore any device to any firmware below iOS 11.3. Do not attempt the restores mentioned in this article.

With the official release of iOS 11.3, the clock is ticking on iOS 11.2.6 signing. Normally this wouldn't mean much to jailbreakers, who would be staying on a lower jailbroken firmware. This time however, it's different. Many users on iOS 9 and 10 jailbreaks are waiting to see how the iOS 11 tools turn out before making the jump. So far, iOS 11.2-11.2.6 have maintained SEP and baseband compatibility with iOS 11.0-11.1.2 (the last jailbreakable firmwares), which allowed users to make the jump at any point, or wait it out a little longer.
