Unc0ver jailbreak picks up support for iOS 12.4.1 in latest public beta

Pwn20wnd updated the unc0ver jailbreak tool at the start of last week with seemingly negligible bug fixes and improvements, but as it would seem, the hacker didn’t stop there.

We learned from an announcement via Twitter late Sunday morning that Pwn20wnd had been working on iOS 12.4.1 support on devices as new as A12, but a shortage of beta testers due to the Cydia Impactor problem inevitably delayed a public beta launch in the past week. Fortunately, that update finally appears to be ready to public testing:

Despite all the hype surrounding the checkra1n jailbreak in recent memory, hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd is reminding everyone that he’s still around with a new public beta release of his renowned iOS 11 and 12-centric jailbreak tool Monday evening.

Pwn20wnd didn’t share any status updates on Twitter about the new unc0ver public beta v3.7.0 beta 4, and perhaps unsurprisingly, that’s because this appears to be a relatively minor update dealing with Cydia and tweak injection methods.

Things have been getting very real in the jailbreak community in the past several weeks. One of the most significant tidbits of news has been the development of the A5-A11-based checkra1n jailbreak by Luca Todesco and others, which rides on the back of a brand-new bootrom exploit from @axi0mX called checkm8. But the captivation isn’t stopping there.

With all the exciting information (and drama) that we’ve seen recently, one might be inclined to say it’s breath of fresh air to see unc0ver jailbreak lead developer Pwn20wnd touting potential work on something new. The hacker took to Twitter Sunday morning to share pertinent information for A12(X) and A13 device users who might be in the market for a jailbreak:

If you’re currently jailbroken with Pwn20wnd’s unc0ver tool, then you may want to launch the Cydia app from your Home screen and refresh your sources.

According to a Tweet shared just this weekend by unc0ver co-developer Sam Bingner, a hot-fix for the Cydia Installer is now available that resolves a particularly irritating bug in which buttons in the app’s tab bar would become unresponsive to a user's taps:

The unc0ver tool by Pwn20wnd is one of the most popular ways to jailbreak a handset running iOS 11 or 12. If you’ve used this solution before, then you’ve undoubtedly experienced what could only be described as a sudden and unexpected battery drain, even when your device sits idle. Fortunately, there’s a fix for that now.

Unc0ver co-developer Sam Bingner released an updated version of UIKit Tools Thursday morning, bringing the jailbreak dependency up to version 1.1.15-1 in the process. In a subtle Retweet by Pwn20wnd, we learn that this update should resolve battery issues experienced by unc0ver users:

Shortly after launching the second public beta of unc0ver v3.7.0 with full-fledged support for A12(X) devices running iOS 12.0-12.3 beta and 12.4, hacker and project lead developer Pwn20wnd dropped a third public beta of the jailbreak tool with a bug fix relating to Substrate support.

It’s been a couple of weeks since hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd implemented full-fledged A12(X) support into the unc0ver jailbreak in the form of a public beta, and as you might come to expect from an initial public beta release, it was a buggy launch indeed.

Given the circumstances, it seemed logical that we’d see an update soon enough, and today seems to be that lucky day for those who’ve been waiting for critical bug fixes. Pwn20wnd officially launched the second unc0ver v3.7.0 public beta for testing on Monday with the following changes:

After a much-anticipated wait, hacker Pwn20wnd has incorporated full-fledged A12(X) device support into the unc0ver jailbreak tool and released it for public testing in the form of unc0ver v3.7.0 beta 1.

The new beta was made available for public testing Sunday afternoon following a series of suspenseful Tweets shared by Pwn20wnd himself along with some of his internal beta testers:

It was only a few days ago that Pwn20wnd teased that significant progress had been made on adding full A12(X) device support to the unc0ver jailbreak tool, and as it would seem, we’re now closer than ever to a public release.

Pwn20wnd took to Twitter this afternoon to share that unc0ver with A12(X) device support had entered the internal testing phases, and assuming everything goes smoothly with this phase of testing, the first official public release could follow shortly after:

Those heavily invested in the jailbreak community will be happy to hear that Pwn20wnd teased significant progress on the much-awaited A12(X) jailbreak with Cydia support Tuesday afternoon. The hacker shared a series of Tweets about all the work that went into making the jailbreak experience on unc0ver as good as humanly possible.

According to Pwn20wnd, Cydia support on A12(X) will be PAC-less, which means it won’t use traditional kernel patches for total handset liberation as current jailbreak solutions do. What’s more is the implementation has been totally rewritten from scratch in an effort to address performance and stability:

It’s been less than 24 hours since hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd dropped the largest stability and reliability update for the iOS 11 & 12-centric unc0ver jailbreak tool to date, but that hasn’t stopped him from updating the tool some more with additional improvements.
