Looks like Apple stopped running ‘Single of the Week’ free song promo on iTunes

We're nearly halfway into the first month of 2015 and yet no free songs have appeared on iTunes, leading Business Insider to wonder whether Apple has killed off the promotion for good.

Conceived as a promotional vehicle to drive sales of music downloads and expose music lovers to new songs, Apple's “Single of the Week” promoting launched a decade ago, back in 2004 (three years after the launch of the iTunes Store).

The promotion has been running ever since, giving out free music every week on iTunes up until the start of 2015.

Waterlogue color paint app offered at no cost inside Apple Store app

If Apple's latest Free App of the Week, the hilarious platformer Icycle: On Thin Ice, isn't your cup of tea, how about a nicely done water color paint app that was recently featured in Apple’s new “Start Something New” webpage which highlights the iPad as a way of creating art through drawings and photographs?

Waterlogue by Tinrocket normally sells for three bucks a pop in the App Store but is now available at no cost through the official Apple Store application (not to be confused with the App Store).

Here's how you can redeem your free copy of Waterlogue.

Apple names hilarious platformer Icycle: On Thin Ice its new Free App of the Week

Apple's promotion that makes hand-picked apps and games available at no cost for a week typically falls on Thursday.

Given the holiday iTunes freeze, which ended on Sunday, Apple's editors couldn't make changes to the App Store so they haven't gotten around cherry-picking another Free App of the Week until yesterday evening.

A cool adventure platformer called Icycle: On Thin Ice by UK-based published Chillingo, now a division of Electronic Arts, is available at no cost until next Thursday, normally a $2.99 value. Regardless of the fact that it includes optional In-App Purchases, Icycle scored some rather favorable reviews and it fits the holiday theme perfectly so you should give it a whirl.

Reminder: Beats offering 10% off headphones and speakers with free shipping

It's Thursday and those of you who frequent iDB know what that means: Apple's editors get to discount and highlight another app as part of the App Store's ongoing promotion marketed under the ‘Free App of the Week’ banner.

With last week's free app, the popular retro-futuristic 3D shooter Space Qube, soon going back up to its regular price of three bucks, we now turn our attention to Brushstroke, a photography app available to you at no cost for a week.

Created by Code Organa, the developer behind the amazing ToonCamera app which turns your video and photos into a live cartoon, Brushstroke transforms your photos into beautiful paintings in seconds. Brushstroke made its App Store debut back in March, has an average rating of 4.5 stars based on 285 reviews and was never free before.

Good deal: name your own price on this awesome Mac software bundle

Good news Mac owners, StackSocial is running another one of its popular “name your own price” software promotions. There are 9 apps in the bundle, and 1 instructional course, which combined normally sell for $543. But, as the headline suggests, you can literally name your own price.

What's the catch? The deal site keeps a running average of what people are paying for the package, which is currently at $4.51. Pay below the average price, and you'll only get 3 of the applications mentioned below, but pay equal to or above the average price, and you'll get the entire package.
