Poll: what screen size should the iPhone 6 be?

Two years ago, our iPhones were all 3.5-inch. It was a time when jumbo-sized handsets had started to steal Apple's thunder as a bunch of people responded enthusiastically to bigger smartphones from the Android camp, namely, Samsung.

Our non-scientific poll asked you back in May 2012 whether the then-unreleased iPhone 5 should rock a bigger screen. More than four out of each ten respondents voted for a four-inch display being the new gold standard for iPhones going forward.

But a lot has happened in the past eighteen months. Fast forward to today and all of a sudden what seemed preposterous in 2012 is commonly accepted in 2014.

The line between a smartphone and a phablet is now blurred to the point where a lot of Apple fans have taken notice of these oversized handsets and are now demanding that Apple responds to the trend accordingly.

The rumor-mill is adamant that Tim Cook will further diversify Apple's mobile product portfolio in 2014 by commissioning a 12.9-inch iPad alongside larger-screened iPhones. Taking it all in, what screen size the next iPhone should be, do you think?

Poll: who has the best holiday ad – Apple, Samsung or Nokia?

Apple a week ago begun airing its nicely done iPhone 5s holiday ad. Titled 'Misunderstood', the tear-inducing video tells a tale of an introverted teenage boy who surprises his family with a thoughtful holiday gift, an iMovie clip he created on his iPhone 5s to cherish the time his family spent together.

The 90-second spot bursts with emotion and is now all over the place: it's been prominently featured during yesterday's NFL game, for example. More importantly, it seems to have been well-received due to its powerful emotional aspect.

Samsung and Microsoft-owned Nokia meanwhile have fired their own ad salvo in their national battle for the hearts and minds of consumers this holiday season...

Poll: did you, or will you jailbreak your iOS device?

Like several of our commenters joked about, today's release of evasi0n7 could be summed up by this quote by Steve Jobs, relating the stolen iPhone 4 episode.

"So this is a story that’s amazing. It’s got theft, it’s got buying stolen property, it’s got extortion, I’m sure there’s sex in there somewhere. So someone should make a movie out of this. This whole thing is very colorful."

All jokes aside, today was a day full of surprising events. The release of evasi0n7 itself was a surprise, especially in regards to the upcoming release of iOS 7.1. Then there was of course the suspicious addition of TaiG for Chinese users, and the long silence from the evad3rs about this all until they finally cleared the air. All this left us with the sour taste of a jailbreak that may or may not really be ready for consumption, as we summed up here.

Now that we have all the pieces together, we'd like to find out if you have, will, or will not jailbreak your device...

Poll: are you buying Retina iPad mini?

Apple's iPad mini with Retina display is finally here and available via online orders, with shipping or pickup at the company's brick-and-mortar outlets. In fact, the new iPads are already being featured prominently on the online Apple Store.

Wasting no time whatsoever, Apple's web store is now pitching both new iPads as perfect holiday gifts, even with the initially severely constrained supplies of Retina iPad minis.

With that in mind, today I want to focus on a Retina successor to Apple's best-selling tablet, the iPad mini. Do you think you'll be getting an iPad mini with Retina display this coming holidays? The poll is right past the fold so cast your vote and meet us in comments. Should be fun!

Poll: are you getting an iPad Air?

As we count the remaining days - or should I say hours? - until Friday's iPad Air launch, I reckon those of you who frequent iDB have made up your mind by now. I'm guessing you've read everything there's to know about the tablet, checked out big media reviews and just really thoroughly talked this through with your friends and family members - all in the service of making an informed purchasing decision.

Yes, some iDB team members have also made up their mind. You can imagine we're absolutely eager to learn about our readership's position on the iPad Air. From your vantage point, is it a buy or pass? Cast a quick vote right below...

Poll: which new iPad are you looking forward to?

We're less than 24 hours away from tomorrow's big reveal at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT so all eyes are on Apple's next-generation iPads.

By all accounts, Tim Cook & his sidekicks should unveil a fifth-generation full-size model featuring bumped up specs and a thinner and lighter iPad mini-style appearance. A second-generation iPad mini with the sought-after Retina display treatment should be on tap as well.

Even though it's customary for major Apple media events that some of the predictions pan out while others never come to be, these new iPads should be a no-brainer and we'll find out soon enough for sure.

Until then, iDB invites you to participate in a non-scientific poll and tell us which iPad you are looking forward to the most...

Poll: what iPhone 5s color would you pick?

Apple's new iPhones go on sale tomorrow at 8am at Apple and carrier retail stores across the United States and ten major international markets - among them, for the first time on launch day, China. Early signs of severely constrained supply led analysts to project a blockbuster opening weekend.

With nearly a third of customers already on iOS 7, some folks have cunningly obtained a new iPhone by virtue of installing the free iOS 7 update. To all you power users out there who happen to be in the market for a new iPhone, your choice couldn't be simpler: the sleek, fast, 64-bit, fingerprint-reading, top-of-the-line iPhone 5s.

If you count yourself among this club, your First World Problem comes down to the choice of color. So, what finish would you pick if you were buying an iPhone 5s?

Poll: who’s upgraded to iOS 7?

We now know nearly one out of each three iOS users has upgraded to iOS 7 in the first sixteen hours of its availability. Have you? We're only asking you to tell us whether or not you upgraded by now, in order to get a better understanding of the iOS 7 adoption rates thus far.

This being a non-scientific YES/NO poll means readers who haven't upgraded yet but are planning to should of course vote with a 'no'...

Poll: what iPhone 5c color would you pick?

Haters are unapologetically disparaging Apple's iPhone 5c as an old iPhone 5 dressed up in some fancy colors. There's nothing wrong with that, mind you. At the same time, the device appears to be quickly selling out pretty much everywhere, from the United States to China. Prudent watchers are wise to warn against underestimating the power of the color in marketing, even more so with the world's greatest marketing machine pitching the colorized iPhone 5c.

We've already asked you whether you'll be getting an iPhone 5s or 5c and now we zero in on the colorful iPhone 5c. So, which iPhone 5c color are you?

Poll: will you get a new iPhone?

Now that Apple has told us everything there's to know about its new iPhone 5c for the colorful and the flagship fingerprint-scanning iPhone 5s that runs Apple's advanced, in-house designed, two times faster 64-bit A7 chip with M7 motion coprocessor, would-be shoppers will have a chance to pre-order the former starting tomorrow.

Even though the company won't provide pre-orders for the top-line iPhone 5s, both handsets are scheduled to simultaneously land on store shelves next Friday, September 20. Folks who frequent this blog by now have learned additional tidbits about the handsets in order to make an informed purchasing decision.

With that in mind, we've decided to put together a little non-scientific poll asking a simple question: which new iPhone are you planning on buying come September 20, if any...

Poll: are you going to buy your iPhone 5S in gold/champagne?

Everyone is complaining about Apple's rumored iPhone 5S allegedly being offered in gold / champagne color, but something tells me it's going to be hugely popular with guys who like to show off and the types who were offended by Samsung's ads and now want to let the world know they have a new iPhone.

But what about the others? Can you stomach the very though of the gold/champagne iPhone 5S?

Undecided people are probably keeping their fingers crossed that leaked images don't look nearly as good as the real thing. Can you picture a gold iPhone variant at all in your mind? More importantly, if the iPhone 5S will be indeed offered in several color choices, will you be buying the gold/champagne model?

Poll finds most users actually prefer the look of iOS 7 over iOS 6

The responses to the radical user-facing changes Apple has made in iOS 7 have been a mixed bag thus far. While some users welcome the new designs and like the way the software looks, others dislike the update so much they say it could kickstart Apple's downfall.

But it looks like the voices in the latter camp are just the loudest, and don't necessarily represent the majority. Because according to this online poll conducted by Input Factory's Polar platform, most folks actually prefer the overall UI design of iOS 7 to that of iOS 6...
