Poll: how do you feel about Sparrow now?

Sparrow for iPhone debuted in February of 2011 and remains to date known as a kick-ass email client for both desktop and mobile. Those that love Sparrow appreciate its best-in-class Gmail support, clean and minimalistic interface and just the right set of features.

But Sparrow got snapped up by the Internet giant Google today (looks like this is becoming somewhat of a pattern for Google). From what we know so far, the Sparrow development team will be “working on new things at Google” and they "do not plan to release new features for the Sparrow apps".

This likely means 'no' to the promised iPad version and another 'no' to push alerts for incoming messages. It's assumably a sad day for Sparrow die-hards, so I just put together a little poll to gauge your feelings on the subject of today's unexpected acquisition...

We now have the "new" iPad but assumably nothing gets blood running through our readers' veins as the all-important question of a moniker under which Apple will market the forthcoming hardware refresh of the iPhone. Is the sixth revision really going to be referred to as the iPhone 5? How about the iPhone 6? Maybe it's going to be just the iPhone or perhaps something entirely different this time around?

We already asked you whether the next iPhone should have a bigger screen. Today's poll offers a few possible name suggestions for Apple's next handset and we ask you to choose one you're most likely to associate with...

Poll: is Microsoft launching Office for iPad today?

Microsoft is unveiling something today, but the company would uncharacteristically release no agenda for today's presser, which begins at noon Pacific time. A media release only mentions that Microsoft will be making an announcement today and teases "news live from San Francisco via webcast".

It's gotta be some kind of a biggie as Steve Ballmer, the CEO, "will share the news", per the release. But what exactly is it? Office for iPad, anyone? It's a simple YES/NO poll so cast your vote now...

Poll: should Apple do iPad mini?

Nothing stirs controversy in our comments more than the rumored iPad mini. Big media is throwing its credence behind it, pundits and analysts are calling for it, watchers offer their pros and cons as purported schematics, case molds, blurry photos and production rumors continue to leak all over the web, seemingly pointing to a fall launch.

And with Google's Nexus 7 off to a brisk start and garnering media attention, the iPad mini seems all but given at this point. We ask you to forget for a second everything you've read and take a long hard look at the prospect of a smaller, cheaper, really thin iPad sitting between $249 and $299, perhaps even as low as $199.

Is there a reason for it to exist? Should Apple do it or pass on smaller slates Steve Jobs famously ridiculed as tweener tablets. Cast your vote below...

The mobile landscape on Monday became a tad more interesting place with the announcement that Microsoft was going to enter the race with its own tablet product marketed under the Surface moniker.

We're now less than an hour away until another major Microsoft presser, this one concerning Windows Phone. With that in mind, iDB thought it'd be interesting to gauge our readers' opinion on the Surface vs. iPad dilemma...

Poll: is iOS 6 everything you hoped for?

Though it's too early to tell if it's any good until we get our hands on it, iOS 6 was definitely the star of the show at Apple's WWDC keynote that just got wrapped up. While we're still digesting the announcements ourselves, iOS 6 definitely seems to be another worthwhile upgrade.

Granted, it's an evolution of the world's most popular mobile operating system rather than a revolution, but no one said it would be in the first place.

We also noticed that Apple really stick it to Google with the new Maps app which comes fully loaded with all the features one would expect from a mapping app.

Should hackers wait for iOS 6 to release the next jailbreak?

Pod2g has just put up quite the interesting poll on his personal blog. The infamous hacker, who is responsible for a majority of the recent exploits found in iOS, is asking folks to vote on the following question: "Shall we hold off the jailbreak for iOS 6?"

The question comes just a few days after we heard that hackers were finally making some progress on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. Of course, if it's released before iOS 6 comes out, the exploits will almost certainly be patched up in the new software...

One in ten men apparently more fond of iPads than the ladies

It's no secret that we are big fans of the iPad here at iDB. The clue is kinda in our name, but even we don't quite understand this latest statistic to come our way.

Put together by online casino Roxy Palace, a recent survey suggests that one in ten, or around 11% of men asked would prefer to get their greasy mitts on a new Apple tablet rather than a lady friend.

We had to read that a few times to make sure we hadn't imagined it but sure enough, that's what the numbers say. Just to add a little fun to proceedings, the poll also asked whether people would prefer any other kind of tablet to a new love, with the number dropping to just 4%...
