Plex on Thursday announced that they're rolling out support for live TV to their various Plex apps. They're starting with Android TV and iOS, and say updates for other platforms like tvOS will follow suit.
The live TV feature is built right into the Media Server, so you'll be able to stream everything from game shows to sporting events in real time, from pretty much anywhere in the world.
The app is also getting other improvements: in-app DVR management, meaning you can now browse the program guide and manage recordings directly from within the app, and expanded tuner support. Last September Plex announced support for the HDHomeRun tuner line, and now it's opening up to tuners from Hauppauge, AVerMedia and many more.
Plex Live TV and DVR are available immediately for Plex Pass users only. The service costs $5 per month, $40 per year, or $120 for life (20% off for a limited time). It's a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth looking into if you're thinking about cutting the cord.

Plex Media Player app is now free to everyone, Plex for Kodi add-on launches
Media management service Plex announced yesterday that its Plex Media Player app is now free to everyone. Previously, using Plex Media Player required a paid Plex Pass subscription, a $5 per month value.
In addition, Plex announced an extension for competitive player Kodi which lets users of Plex Media Server stream their media content to the Kodi app.
Plex can now record free over-the-air and cable broadcasts using HDHomeRun devices
Available today as a beta release for Plex Pass subscribers, a new DVR feature allows Plex users to record both free over-the-air shows and cable broadcasts using their own digital antenna and HDHomeRun devices from Silicon Dust. As a bonus, it also supports non-DRM CableCARD channels on the HDHomeRun PRIME network attached digital tuner. This is a great feature addition that will put more television into your Plex-powered media center.
Plex is available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV, as well as for the Mac, Windows, Linux and a host of other media-streamers and other devices and platforms.

The new Apple TV is about to get its first killer app as popular media-streaming software Plex officially announced extending its iOS app to the new device, as revealed to ITWorld this past weekend.
“We are very excited to have a crack at bringing our users Apple TV,” said Scott Olechowski, the co-founder of Plex. “It’s been a long requested platform and we’re excited to work on it.”
