Apple’s App Store data shows iOS 7 adoption is now at 78%

Apple has updated its App Store support page for developers this week to reflect new data regarding iOS 7 adoption. According to the company's usage data, the new operating system is running on 78% of iOS devices accessing the App Store.

That's a nice little jump up from earlier this month, when Apple noted that iOS 7 adoption had hit 74%. The move can be attributed to the success of the iPhone and iPad over the holiday season and [possibly] the just-released iOS 7 jailbreak...

Apple device activations grew by 2.3 times on Christmas Day

And just like that, the holidays are over. It seems like we spend a lot of time preparing—decorating, shopping, etc.—for something that goes by in the blink of an eye. But that's ok, for a lot of folks that blink of an eye brought presents like new iOS hardware.

In fact, if you received a new iPhone or iPad this Christmas, you're in good company. According to data published by mobile analytics firm Flurry, Apple device activations grew 2.3 times on Christmas Day (versus an average day in December) this year...

iPhone 5s is best-selling smartphone at US carriers, 5c is third best

According to research by Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley, the iPhone 5s has been the top-selling smartphone at the four major US carriers for the past 3 months. That's not too surprising, considering new iPhones usually fair well right after launch.

But what did surprise me was the fact that the iPhone 5c has also been in the top 3 selling smartphones at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile since September. You know, the same handset that Apple has reportedly been cutting production for due to poor sales...

There are now 1 million apps available in the US App Store

During its October iPad event, Apple announced that it had crossed the 1 million app milestone in its worldwide App Store. This meant that, not counting duplicates, it had over 1 million apps available around the globe at that time.

This week, Apple passed the same milestone here in its US App Store. According to data from app discovery firm Appsfire, there are now more than 1 million live apps in the App Store. 1,006,557 to be exact at the time of this writing...

Survey finds that Apple Stores now account for 25% of US iPhone sales

During a summit in San Francisco's Fort Mason on June 27 of this year, Tim Cook spoke to Apple Retail Store leaders about upcoming changes to the company's iPhone marketing tactics. He said he was hoping the changes would help their stores start selling more handsets.

Well here we are, nearly 6 months later, and it looks like the changes have done just that. According to a new survey from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, the amount of iPhones purchased from Apple stores has increased from 20% to 25% over the past several months...

Apple adds new features to iWork for iOS and Mac

As you know, Apple earlier in the month has promised to bring back dozens of recently-removed iWork features over the course of six months. In keeping with that promise, a barrage of updates has gone live Wednesday on the App Store and Mac App Store, adding new capabilities to the iWork suite of applications on Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPods.

This is the first major refresh since last month's downgrade stealthily removed arguably less popular though essential features in favor of cross-platform document compatibility between OS X, iOS and the web.

I've included full release notes and a couple of highlights right after the break...

Samsung sells just 50,000 Galaxy Gear watches in first two months [update]

In September, Samsung launched a line of Galaxy Gear smartwatches. The move appeared to be little more than a response to rumors that Apple and other tech companies were working on similar products, and an effort to be "first" to market.

But going first in unknown territory doesn't always work in your favor, and it looks like the Galaxy Gear supports that theory. According to a new report, Samsung has sold just 50,000 smartwatches since it launched them nearly 3 months ago...

Candy Crush Saga reaches 500 million downloads one year after launch

To say that Candy Crush Saga, a game that challenges players to match candies in a combination of three or more, is a hit would be an understatement. You can't scroll through Facebook or walk through the mall without seeing it.

And today, The Telegraph added some context to the success. Speaking with Tommy Palm of developer King, the news outlet is reporting that Candy Crush has surpassed the 500 million download mark, just one year after launching...

iWork for iCloud gets collaboration enhancements, printing and folders

Apple ahead of the September 22 iPad keynote teased "great new features coming to iWork for iCloud". The company's head of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, during his keynote segment took us through some of the enhancements that increase productivity by allowing multiple users to work simultaneously on Pages, Keynote and Numbers documents from iOS devices, Macs and even the web interface.

Today, Apple's taken iWork for iCloud further by rolling out several new capabilities such as printing and the ability to organize your documents in folders, right in your web browser. The full list of changes is right after the break...

Use this web tool to track Retina iPad mini availability in the US

Although it's getting a little bit easier to find the new iPad mini with Retina display in Apple Stores, supplies are still very constrained. Shoppers, for example, are still advised to check availability before venturing out to their local stores.

Luckily, a new web-based tracking tool has popped up that makes this process a little less tedious. Built by the team behind Seaturtle.org, the tool offers a snapshot of Retina iPad mini availability for a number of Apple Stores across the US...

This Delaware Apple Store sells more iPhones than any other in the US

If someone asked you which Apple Store in the United States sold the most iPhones, you'd probably name off some of the flagship locations like the one in San Francisco on One Stockton Street, or the Fifth Avenue Store in New York.

But you'd be wrong. According to a new report from ABC News, an Apple Store located within the Christiana Mall shopping center in Delaware, sells more iPhones than any other in the US. How? Delaware doesn't charge state sales tax...

Infographic shows how the iPhone has grown over the years

The iPhone has come a long way since it was first introduced in 2007. Now generating more than 30 million sales per quarter, the popular handset has become a large part (over half) of Apple's business.

With that in mind, we found this infographic of how the iPhone has grown over the years very interesting. Not only does it show the hardware and software changes it's undergone, but also its increase in sales...
