This tweak auto-pauses media playback when muting your iPhone’s volume

There are often times when I’m forced to turn my iPhone’s media playback volume down so I can hear someone as they’re talking to me. But even with my volume turned all the way down, my media playback continues without an audience.

It’s odd that iOS and iPadOS haven’t adopted a user-friendly feature to auto-pause media playback when the volume is turned all the way down, especially since you wouldn’t even be able to hear it. While it wouldn’t be necessary for video playback, it would certainly be useful for music.

The iPhone’s ringer/silent switch is traditionally used for the purposes implied by its rather conspicuous name — it either enables the ringer for incoming notifications or it silences notification sounds on demand.

With the introduction of a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called RingerActions by iOS developer Chr1s, users now have the ability to map alternative actions to the ringer/silent switch’s conditional state.

Both the Apple Watch and iPhone support silent mode – a feature that mutes all incoming notification sounds to prevent awkward situations in certain predicaments, such as a ringtone going off in the middle of class or disturbing participants during a work conference. Unfortunately, this handy feature doesn’t stay in sync between both devices, necessitating manual input for each.

This is a problem that a newly released jailbreak tweak called WatchMuteMirror by iOS developer Cardboard Face aims to resolve. As you may have inferred already from the tweak’s name, WatchMuteMirror keeps silent mode in sync between your iPhone and your Apple Watch so that the latter doesn’t make a bunch of noise even after you toggle the mute switch on the side of your iPhone.

EnableCCMute enables the hidden mute toggle in Control Center

It seems like Apple is hiding some pretty useful functionality from us in the iOS 10 Control Center that might remain hidden until a future release of iOS, such as a toggle for recording your screen and a toggle for Low Power Mode, but from the looks of things, it doesn’t end there.

If you have an iPad, then you're probably familiar with the Mute toggle that appears in Control Center, which it's not present on other iOS devices despite still existing in the system. A new free jailbreak tweak called EnableCCMute by iKilledAppl3 enables this hidden toggle on all jailbroken iOS 10 devices.

TweetMuter lets you hide tweets from your timeline based on keywords

If you’re a Twitter user and you’re always finding stuff in your Twitter timeline that you could really care less about, then you might like a new free jailbreak tweak called TweetMuter by Tanner Bennett.

This tweak utilizes the existing Muted Words feature in the stock Twitter app, a feature that normally only applies to your notifications tab; but TweetMuter expands this functionality to even your timeline so that you don’t have to mute people entirely, nor will you have to un-follow people to stop seeing only certain things.

Purported Mute switch leak reaffirms rumors of Space Black iPhone 7 model

A lot of people seem to be excited for the supposed iPhone 7 variant in Space Black, resembling the Space Black stainless steel Apple Watch or the dramatic Darth Vader-like black-clad appearance of the iPhone 5. Dutch publication TechTastic.nl on Monday published a photo of an alleged Mute switch for the next iPhone.

What's especially interesting about this particular part leak is the part's finish that strongly suggest—assuming the component is genuine—that the next iPhone will in fact be offered in Space Black.
