Before the end of March, the rumor mill ramped up expectations that LG might be ready to call it quits in the smartphone business. And sure enough, the company has confirmed those plans.
What was initially speculated back in January of this year may actually be coming to pass. Despite having a lucrative history in the smartphone industry, the Life's Good crew may be planning its exit.
While the rumor mill may not be pushing a foldable iPhone as hard as some other rumors (like the Apple Car), it's one that won't go away easily. Today, for instance, has a report suggesting a major company may be assisting Apple in development of that future handset.
LG Display will be no longer building LCD panels for non-OLED iPhones, the company has confirmed now. Moreover, its parent LG has warned investors that it is seriously considering exiting the smartphone business entirely due to declining shipments and strong competition.
