Watch designers creating prototypes in Apple’s studios

Apple yesterday announced a $300 coffee table photo book, titled “Designed by Apple in California”, which chronicles 20 years of iconic product designs. Jony Ive, Apple's Chief Design Officer, discussed the photo book with Wallpaper.com and Japanese design firm Casa Brutus.

The Casa Brutus interview is accompanied by a rare video which offers a unique glimpse into Apple's secretive Industrial Design Studio, showing designers at work creating prototypes of Macs, iPhones and other items.

Apple unveils hardbound photo book chronicling 20 years of product designs

Apple today announced a hardbound photo book which tells the story of award-winning design at the company. Aptly titled “Designed by Apple in California,” the book is dedicated to the memory of Steve Jobs and covers 20 years of Apple’s design as expressed through hundreds of photographs of past and current product designs, from the 1998 iMac to the 2015 Apple Pencil. The photo book, which also documents the materials and techniques used by Jony Ive's design team, will be available beginning tomorrow for $199 or $299 from Apple.com and Apple retail stores.

Noted journalist and television talk show host Charlie Rose will be offering an inside look at Jony Ive's design lab and new store design on Sunday. CBS' TV series 60 Minutes announced Rose's upcoming segment via Twitter late Thursday evening.

According to the tweets, 60 Minutes will be showing footage from inside Jonathan Ive’s secret design studio at Apple's headquarters—an area few outsiders have traveled. In one of the tweets, a photo shows Ive explaining a design process to Rose.

Jony Ive talks Apple Pencil

Apple's Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive, sat down with The Telegraph's Rhiannon Williams today to discuss the iPad Pro launch (see our review roundup here) and in particular Apple's optional stylus accessory, the $99 Apple Pencil.

The stylus, Ive said, will feel like “a more natural extension” of the pen and paper experience but achieving that degree of natural behavior “was a significant technological challenge,” he revealed.

Jony Ive talks Hermès Apple Watch partnership in new interview

In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple design chief Jony Ive reveals that the company spoke to Hermès regarding a possible Apple Watch partnership before the product was announced to the public last fall. "It’s something highly unusual for Apple to do—to talk about an unannounced project,” he explained.

For those who missed the news on Wednesday, Apple unveiled an all new Hermès edition of the Apple Watch that starts at $1,100. The device features custom watch faces, and a Hermès leather band that's available in multiple colors and three different styles: double tour, single tour and cuff.

Jony Ive, Jimmy Iovine to speak at upcoming Vanity Fair event

Apple's chief of design Jony Ive and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine are set to speak at an upcoming Vanity Fair event. The publication just announced that the pair will join a cornucopia of tech and entertainment luminaries at its New Establishment Summit in October.

Ive spoke at last year's VF New Establishment Summit, touching on a number of interesting topics such as his design process, relationship with Steve Jobs and thoughts on copycats. So we're anxious to see what he has to say when this year's event kicks off on October 5th.
