Jailbreak Apps & Tweaks

These are the latest jailbreak apps and tweaks available for your iPhone or iPad. We save you time by highlighting only the best tweaks.

FlatIcons: a beautiful two dimensional theme for iOS

From a pure looks standpoint, FlatIcons is one of the better looking themes for iOS. It's not the deepest theme out there as far as the UI area it covers on iOS, but it's definitely up there with some of the best from a purely visual standpoint.

Along with the app icons themselves, FlatIcons includes themes for the stock Weather app, Auxo toggles, and Notification Center. As a bonus to purchasers of the theme, the creator of FlatIcons added an additional alternate theme to the package as well. Have a look inside for our hands-on video walkthrough.

Abstergo: the perfect tweak for managing notifications

It's been a very long time in the making, but the release of Abstergo is almost upon us. Abstergo, as you may remember, has been talked about and worked on for over a year. It is the concept and creation of Andrew Richardson and Joshua Tucker, and it promises to make managing your notifications better on iOS.

Needless to say, lots and lots of time has been invested into nearly every aspect of the tweak. Tucker, in a candid discussion with him via Twitter, stated that the pair worked hard on one particular portion of the tweak — the ability to add notifications back to the Lock screen — for a couple of weeks.

With its release a mere six days away, Abstergo is shaping up to be a tweak that has been well worth waiting for. I believe it truly will lend a better ability to managing iOS notifications. It's one of those tweaks that's a bit difficult to explain how it can help you without seeing it in action for yourself. For that reason, we've hit the video lab to give you an in-depth hands-on demonstration of the tweak's most intimate functions. Take a look past the break for the full scoop.

How to add an animated clock to Notification Center

Flip Clock is a jailbreak widget that allows you to add an animated flipping clock to Notification Center. The tweak features a nice helping of options to configure the look and feel of the clock to your personal liking.

Once Flip Clock is installed, simply enable it in Settings > Notifications in order to display it within your Notification Center. The tweak also works with packages like LockInfo for placing the widget in more places than just the Notification Center panel. ‘Compose’ adds new Mail and Message shortcuts to Notification Center

Looking for a quick and easy way to compose new messages and emails via Notification Center? Then perhaps Compose — a new jailbreak tweak that places shortcuts to each respective app in Notification Center — will suit your fancy.

Compose follows the same visual template that Apple created with its Facebook and Twitter Notification Center shortcuts, but it doesn't work exactly the same. Instead of opening up a small pop-up box to type in any content you wish to share, Compose works more like a shortcut to each respective app. More details inside...

DisableNCPlus lets you kill Notification Center on a per-app basis

How many times have you been swiping through a level of Infinity Blade, or Fruit Ninja, and accidentally pulled down the Notification Center? I know it happens enough to me to be a nuisance.

Well the good news is, for all of you jailbreakers out there, there are tweaks that allow you to disable the pull-down menu. And a new one just hit Cydia that actually lets you do it on a per-app basis...

Hands-on with Kamera

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIyfdVTepVU

Last week we brought you some information on Kamera — a recently released jailbreak tweak available for free on Cydia's ModMyi repo. Well, we just got a chance to try it out on...ahem, camera, so we thought we'd bring you a video walkthrough.

As you probably remember, Kamera is a Notification Center widget that enables you to go directly to the front-facing or rear-facing mode via the Camera app. Recently an option was added to Kamera to allow you to use a long tap and hold to go straight to video mode. I've found it to be a decent tweak, although many other options exist out there to quickly invoke the Camera.

If you're browsing from an iDevice, you can download Kamera from Cydia using this direct link. Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments.

Music Controls Pro 6.0+ discounted while developers bring features back to iOS 6.x

Since iOS 3.x, the most feature rich jailbreak apps for music was Music Controls Pro. If you wanted a custom control overlay for music, swipe controls, a remote server, and a host of other features, Music Controls Pro was the way to go. Unfortunately, the original version of Music Controls Pro is no longer compatible with iOS 6.

While the all new Music Controls Pro 6.0+ only has a fraction of the previous app's capabilities, the price is currently discounted to $3.99 while the developers bring the new app up to speed. Currently Music Controls Pro includes swipe controls, Notification Center plugins for playback and volume, task switcher controls, and status bar integration for song titles. These are the core features that kept the original Music Controls Pro on my iPad in iOS 5.1.1...

Quickly snap photos from Notification Center with Kamera

Do you hate it when you're trying to take a picture, you load up the Camera app, and the wrong camera is active? In photography, every moment counts and the delay in fiddling with camera modes could cost you that perfect shot.

Kamera is a Notification Center shortcut for the native Camera overlay in iOS 5 and 6, allowing you to take pictures from anywhere. What makes Kamera special is it allows you to start the overlay with either the front or rear camera active, depending on the button pressed...

‘StatusTab’ lets you access the status bar from within full screen apps

If you play a lot of games on your iPhone, then you're probably used to the idea of full screen apps negating the presence of the status bar. If you find that to be annoying, then a new jailbreak tweak entitled StatusTab may interest you. It allows you to sneak a quick peek at the status bar by swiping on the area where the status bar normally resides.

Needless to say, StatusTab is a simple tweak, but the simple tweaks usually end up being some of the best tweaks. Take a look inside, and judge for yourselves.

‘TorchNC’ and ‘InstaSnap’ spice up Notification Center on jailbroken iPhones

Two new jailbreak tweaks have recently appeared in Cydia by the same developer, and they both happen to focus on Notification Center. Specifically, these tweaks aim to add handy shortcuts to the Notification Center pull-down pane.

The first tweak on the docket, TorchNC, adds a shortcut to activate the iPhone's LED flash. There are other tweaks and apps that perform flashlight functions, but I always find it useful to have it within Notification Center, or directly on the Lock screen.

The second tweak, like the first, is a shortcut for Notification Center. Instead of interacting with the iPhone's LED flash, InstaSnap is a tweak that allows you to quickly access the camera from within Instagram. Seeing as though this tweak doesn't require the iPhone only LED flash, it works with both the iPhone and iPod touch perfectly fine.

Take a look as we profile both InstaSnap and TorchNC in our walkthrough videos inside...
