With invites for Apple's long-rumored September 12 media event sent out earlier today, all eyes are on the next iPhone, as subtly hinted by a "5" lurking in the shadow on the invite graphics. A separate media event is also believed to be in the works around October for a mini iPad. This leaves us with the obvious question: how does a third iPod-related presser fit between these two?

Per conventional wisdom, Apple could refresh iPods alongside the iPhone at the September 12 event. On the other hand, such a high-profile iPhone introduction - perhaps the most important product launch in Apple's history - deserves an exclusive media event of its own. We've put together a quick poll to let us know about your expectations come next Wednesday (it ain't a YES/NO poll)...

Quickly access iPod controls from anywhere in iOS with SpringMusic

Emails show Apple was interested in a clickwheel iPhone

Earlier this year, ex-Apple engineer Tony Fadell mentioned something interesting during an on-stage interview. He said that among the handful of prototype iPhone designs that Apple originally considered, one of them was actually built around the infamous iPod clickwheel.

New report calls for revamped iPod touch and iPod nano this fall

The otherwise pretty reliable Japanese blog Macotakara reported today that Apple's iPod nano music player is undergoing a major redesign later this year, focusing on a taller appearance akin to the previous-generation model.

In addition, the rumored device is said to have gained a home button and some sort of iTunes integration. Macotakara previously leaked parts of both the new iPad and iPad 3 and reported the next iPhone would launch this fall so you shouldn't dismiss this new piece of information as an unreliable rumor from a shady source...

Ever since Steve Jobs joked about iPod nano wrist straps during the September 2010 presser ("one of our board of director members is gonna clip it on to an armband as a watch"), there has been no shortage of futuristic iWatch concepts, ranging from ADR Studio's James Bond-like thing to Italian designer Federico Ciccarese's Star Trek-like wearable device with curved glass we told you about last week.

If you can't get enough of these, you'll appreciate this one by Swedish designer Anders Kjellberg who earned our respect with a remarkable iWatch vision featuring FaceTime (quite logical, isn't it?), Retina display (why not?) and a whole bunch of other nice-to-haves...

Rumored Apple device with curved glass screen gets awesome mockup treatment

Curved cover glass could be the next big thing for portable devices. Apple reportedly invested in glass-cutting machines last year, fueling rumors that the iPhone 5 may feature a curved display akin to Nokia's Lumia smartphones. The idea gained credence when Nick Bilton wrote in a New York Times article last December that Cupertino was working on “a curved-glass iPod that would wrap around the wrist”.

We're not so sure Apple would attach the iPod or iPhone brand to such an unusual gizmo, but if it resembles this exquisite concept, count us very excited...
