iPhone 7 catches fire and destroys an owner’s car, Apple investigating

As local outlet 7 News reported, Australian surfing instructor Mat Jones said he had left his iPhone 7 under clothes in his car while taking a surf lesson. Upon returning to his vehicle, he was shocked to discover it filled with smoke and burned up in the same area where he'd placed the phone.

“His pants, which he had wrapped the iPhone 7 in before heading to his lesson, were still on fire when he got to his car,” Fortune added. Could Apple have a massive iPhone 7 overheating problem on its hands akin to Samsung's exploding Galaxy Note 7?

Some great stick-on wallets for iPhone

Stick-on (or adhesive) wallets are the perfect solution for folks who want to leave their wallet at home, but hate the bulkiness of dedicated cases. These are essentially thin pouches that adhere to the back of your device and hold your credit/ID cards and some cash. We know this is not your typical accessory category, so we've put together a list of some good options that work with most recent iPhone models.

Jet black and micro-abrasions: how iPhone 7 holds up a month later

Now that I've been using my jet black iPhone 7 for a little over a month, I figured it'd be depressing interesting to look at the state of that high-gloss finish and see how it's fared over that short period of time.

In previous years, this was not even a concern, but the fragility of the new jet black finish has been under scrutiny since day one, especially as Apple itself noted that jet black devices would be prone to micro-abrasions.

Apple releases iOS 10.0.3 for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with fix for cellular conectivity bug

Apple on Monday released a new update for iOS labeled version number 10.0.3. The update appears to be exclusive for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and it can be downloaded via the Update mechanism in Settings, or from our Downloads page.

As noted in the screenshot above, 10.0.3 brings about various bug fixes, including one for an issue where users could temporarily lose cellular connectivity. This has been a fairly high profile iPhone 7 bug, particularly among Verizon users.

iPhone 7 will be launching in seven more countries later this month

Apple today announced via its international websites that the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus handsets will be arriving in an additional seven markets this month: Colombia, Cameroun, Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Mozambique and South Korea.

In addition to the latest phones, customers in South Korea and Colombia will be able to purchase the Apple Watch Series 2 later this month, too.

When iPhone 7 Home button fails, iOS 10 offers a nice software workaround

MacRumors forum member “iwayne” has noticed that iOS 10 offers an interesting software workaround for when the iPhone 7's non-moving Home button fails.

Should that ever happen to you, iOS 10 will instantly create a software-based Home button centered at the bottom of the screen.

Not unlike the AssistiveTouch accessibility feature that many iPhone owners in Asia use regularly over fear of breaking the physical Home button, iOS 10's new onscreen button could hint at how a bezel-less iPhone 8 might work without a physical Home button.

SIM-free iPhone 7 now available in Apple’s online store

Heads up to those of you who have been waiting for SIM-free iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models to come available. You can now buy the unlocked handsets on Apple's website, starting at $650 and $770, respectively.

While you could previously buy the iPhone 7 at full retail, it had to be tied to a carrier. These new models, as the name suggests, come without a SIM card, meaning they can be active with any carrier at a later time.

Waterproof cases for iPhone 7

The new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are "water resistant" (though Apple's warranty doesn't cover liquid damage), and that's fine for accidental spills and splashes, but it's not good enough protection for taking pictures in the pool. For that, you're going to want a waterproof case.

Since the iPhone 7 is still rather new, there aren't a ton of waterproof cases available for it just yet—popular accessory-maker Lifeproof still says 'Coming Soon' on its website—but we were able to put together a list of some solid options based on feedback and features.

Hands On: iLDOCK Kickstarter looks to add a headphone jack to the iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 has encountered much ire in response to the lack of a headphone jack. Since the launch, there have been a bevy of companies vying for the ultimate accessory to "fix" the iPhone 7 by bringing back the headphone jack. iLDOCK is yet another accessory trying to fill that void.

Apple creates their own accessory for converting the Lightning port into a 3.5mm audio jack. The issue comes up when you want to listen to audio, and charge your phone simultaneously. Newly launched Kickstarter project iLDOCK looks to fix this annoying problem. The small aluminum adapter plugs into your phone to bring you the old 3.5mm audio port, as well as a female lightning port.

Battery cases for your new iPhone 7

Apple says the iPhone 7 gets up to two more hours of power over the iPhone 6s, and the iPhone 7 Plus gets an additional hour over its predecessor. But folks wanting true all-day battery life, or erratic all-weekend battery life, are still going to need some help.

That's where battery cases come in. A battery case can double (or more) your iPhone's battery life. There aren't a ton of them available for the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus yet, but we've put together a list of some solid options based on price and customer feedback.
