17 months later, Gmail gains a single 3D Touch shortcut

Google today refreshed its mobile Gmail app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on App Store, adding very limited 3D Touch support nearly a year and a half after Apple first brought pressure sensing to iPhone's display with the September 2015 release of iPhone 6s.

Owners of the iPhone 6s/7 series can now press Gmail's icon to quickly compose a message, but that's about it. Thank you, Google, but seriously?

In my view, Google doesn't really have a clue how to properly build 3D Touch gestures into Gmail in a manner that would save users time and boost their productivity.

The app still lacks Peek and Pop gestures., but we'll get those next year, right?

In addition, we should also see the previously rumored Red model of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and four new iPad Pro models introduced at the event.

Is iPhone 7’s matte black finish susceptible to chips and peeling?

Has the anodized finish on your matte black iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus started to chip or peel off? You're probably not alone. As evidenced by user posts in a multi-page thread on Apple's support forum, a growing number of people are complaining that their matte black Apple smartphone is showing paint chips around its edges, even with the use of a case.

TapticPasscodeButtons adds haptic feedback to your passcode buttons

Lots of people are fans of haptic feedback, and now that most of the latest iPhones have that sleek taptic engine instead of a clunky vibration motor, those haptic responses are even better to feel than ever.

A new free jailbreak tweak called TapticPasscodeButtons brings that satisfying haptic feedback to the passcode buttons on your Lock screen, and it taps into the power of the taptic engine we previously mentioned in order to do it.

Apple posts Shot on iPhone 7 ad ‘One Night’

Apple late Monday posted a new ad to its YouTube channel called 'One Night—Shot on iPhone 7.' The clip, which first popped up on Apple's website last month, shows a number of photos and videos taken using Apple's latest handset.

In the description of the YouTube post, Apple says the commercial features content from 16 photographers, in 15 cities, on 6 continents, taken in one night. The song you hear playing the background is SnowFall by Ahmad Jamal Trio.

Support for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus still coming to Yalu jailbreak

Since our most recent post on the subject of Luca Todesco's Yalu jailbreaks for iOS 10, we have been receiving queries from our readers about the status of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Although the two flagship devices were supported on the first version of the tool, which was for iOS 10(.1(.1)), they were omitted from the follow-up tool for iOS 10.0-10.2.

This has caused some to doubt whether these devices will ever see a stable build of the jailbreak, and whether they have been forgotten about. Fortunately, these worries are groundless; support for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is still very much planned.

Google launches Chrome 56 for iOS with QR code scanning and overhauled tab switcher on iPad

Google today updated Chrome for iPhone and iPad on App Store with a pair of new features. The first allows you to scan a QR code or barcode by selecting a new Scan QR Code option in the shortcuts menu after pressing the app's Home screen icon with 3D Touch on iPhone 6s/7 series. On older devices without 3D Touch, search for “QR” in iOS's Spotlight feature to reveal a shortcut to the browser's new barcode-scanning function.
