New tweak brings Live Photos to older iPhones running iOS 8

Live Photos is a new iPhone 6s exclusive feature that breathes new life into static photography. It works by shoehorning the photo in between video captured just prior and just after the photo is taken. The resulting effect is a "live" photo that moves on your screen, lending context to the photo at hand.

The new 3D Touch feature is used to activate Live Photos in the Photos app, and doubtlessly the iPhone 6s and Live Photos were made with each other in mind. That said, it doesn't mean that it's not possible to have a similar iteration of Live Photos on older hardware, as has just been proven by a new Cydia tweak.

Elias Limneos, a well known tweak developer who has releases like CallBar and BioProtect under his belt, just released PhotosLive—an impressive rendition of Apple's Live Photos for older jailbroken devices. The question is, how well does PhotosLive work?

Apple’s new Taptic Engine inside iPhone 6s blasted with X-rays, captured in action on video

When Apple says that a redesigned vibrator inside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, branded as the Taptic Engine, gives you “real-time feedback” in the form of subtle taps, the company is not exaggerating. The new oscillating mechanism, now enclosed with its own aluminum shell, reaches its full power in just one cycle (and stops just as quickly) versus ten or more oscillations for most other smartphones.

iPhone 6s teardown: smaller battery, heavier display, fewer chips and same repairability

Repair wizards over at iFixit have performed their teardown routine by prying open the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s (model A1688/A1633) in an effort to identify its components, analyze their internal layout and calculate the device's repairability score.

While the new phone does feature a slightly smaller battery due to a heavier display with additional capacitive sensors, Apple's new Taptic Engine and a bigger 'A9' system-on-a-chip, the device packs in fewer chips overall and has the same repairability score as last year's iPhone 6.

Answer: far, far less than the previous model. Apple hasn't focused much on a lot stronger body of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus so, naturally, we've been eager to find out just how Bendgate-proof the new devices are. A new non-scientific stress test video from Australia demonstrates that the iPhone 6s Plus is nearly unbendable versus the iPhone 6 Plus.

Samsung tries to troll iPhone 6s launch outside Apple’s flagship London store

Here we go again...

In what could only be described as a continuation of its miserable anti-Apple advertising campaign, Samsung has hired people to wear backpack-mounted banners advertising its Galaxy smartphones to folks who queued up for iPhone 6s launch this morning outside the Apple Store in London’s Regent Street, The Inquirer reported.

The banners promote Samsung’s latest Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+ flagships and carry the provocative tagline “The itch to switch just got bigger.” In addition, International Business Times is reporting that Samsung even gave queued customers bright blue pillows and bottles emblazoned with the hashtag #NextIsNew.

T-Mobile: trade in your old iPhone 6 and get iPhone 6s for as low as $5 per month

T-Mobile's outspoken CEO John Legere confirmed today on Twitter that his company will be offering an iPhone 6s beginning Friday for as low as $5, $10 or $15 per month, depending on the model being purchased and older iPhone traded in, through its JUMP! On Demand device upgrade program. The lowest $5 per month pricing entails an iPhone 6 trade in, while buying a new iPhone 6s for $10 per month requires trading in your iPhone 5s.

Customers can take advantage of this offer even if they have already pre-ordered their device with a trade-in. Leggier conformed  in another tweet that pre-orders of new iPhones at T-Mobile are up thirty percent versus the previous year.

Apple confirms some NYC customers will get their iPhone 6s on Saturday due to Pope visit

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are launching on Friday in the United State and several other markets around the world. Ahead of the launch, Apple has now cautioned some New York City customers that their order might arrive on Saturday due to Pope Francis' visit to the country.

In an email sent to customers, a copy of which was obtained by Sam Biddle, the Cupertino firm warns of shipping delays due to “traffic restrictions expected for that day in New York City”.
