iPhone 5s/5c now rolling out to 35 new markets

As the massive November 1 iPad Air launch across 42 global markets draws near (how about picking yours at Walmart?), tomorrow marks another key accomplishment for the company's iconic smartphone as a bunch of international Apple Stores go offline ahead of the second wave of expansion.

More than a month ago - on September 20 - Apple's new iPhones went on sale in the United States and an additional ten major markets worldwide. Shortly after, Apple told us a major expansion in 35 new markets would follow on Friday, October 25 so this isn't a shocker.

Moshi iPhone 5s cases round up

As soon as I ordered my iPhone 5s, I began hunting around the internet for new cases. Yes, iPhone 5 cases are completely compatible with iPhone 5s, but I started looking anyway. New iPhone, new case, is my standard. Something fresh was needed. I didn't know exactly what I was looking for at the time, but something that related to the new 5s in some way.

Moshi came to mind, as they always utilize clean and simple designs. A clip on case is always the most simplistic and I opted for that version. Browsing through the selection, I came across the iGlaze Armour and it is marketed as a slim fit case. The two tone design caught my eye, as it matches the 5s backing. In particular, the gold/silver version caught my attention, because "gold is best."...

Samsung buys stake in iPhone cover glass maker Corning

Gorilla Glass maker Corning has a new partner: Samsung. The South Korean firm is taking ownership in the company which produces tough glass displays for the iPhone and just about everyone else. At the same time, the $2 billion agreement gives Samsung a 10-year a supply contract while Corning gets the cash to explore future technology.

Along with making highly-resistant glass for smartphones, Corning could also be tapped to produce flexible material aimed at the growing number of wearable devices, such as Samsung's Galaxy Gear and Apple's long-rumored iWatch...

Russian carriers that dropped Apple in 2012 now want it back

Two of the three Russian carriers that dropped the iPhone in 2012 now want it back. MTS and Vimplecom announced Tuesday they will begin selling Apple's new iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s starting Friday.

Vimplecom (which owns Russia's No. 3 carrier Beeline) said it signed a contract with Apple for the new handsets. MTS, on the other hand, will use a distributor to get the smartphones. Both Vimplecom and MTS stopped iPhone sales last year, complaining Apple's stringent contracts created "harsh conditions"...

iOS 7.0.3 apparently corrects iPhone 5s sensor calibration issues

A smaller percentage of owners of Apple's new iPhone 5s flagship have been inundated with inaccurate compass and inclinometers readings.

As you've likely heard by now, some of the affected customers in Apple's support forums reported readings consistently off by a noticeable margin. This has been blamed on a change of supplier.

Rather than tap its longtime supplier STMicroelectronics, Apple has opted to buy accelerometer sensor for these new iPhones from Bosch, a large German industrial company producing household appliances, automotive parts and many other items.

Haters came out of the woodwork screaming Bosch hardware was at fault to suggest Apple had run out of options and will now supposedly need to recall the affected units. Turns out the issue was easily fixable because the newly released iOS 7.0.3 update has made inaccurate sensor readings a thing of the past...

New iPhones pushed Apple to top US smartphone seller in September

According to data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, Apple was the top US smartphone seller in September. The company overtook the spot from Samsung, who had been #1 in the country since May.

And it's not hard to guess where the boost came from, Apple released not one but two new handsets last month. The iPhone 5s was the overall top selling smartphone in September, and the iPhone 5c came in third place...

iPhone 5c is narrowing on iPhone 5s lead, according to analytics firm

The popularity of Apple's iPhone 5c is increasing. After a string of reports suggesting more iPhone 5s handsets were being sold, new numbers shop the sales gap shrinking. In a curious move for a smartphone first thought to attract mainly emerging markets, the iPhone 5c popularity in the U.S. is higher than overall global demand.

According to researchers at Localytics, the ration of iPhone to iPhone 5s sales is 1.9, much smaller than the 3.4 ratio reported during the first week of sales for Apple's two new iPhones...

Boost Mobile getting iPhone 5s/5c on November 8

EV Leaks, the credible source of carrier and device rumors, recently claimed that prepaid U.S. telco Boost Mobile would soon start offering the new iPhones with its Shrinking Payments plan. Sure enough, the Sprint-owned prepaid carrier on Monday announced that it will start carrying both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on Friday, November 8. The full reveal is right after the break...

Apple highlights gold colorway in first iPhone 5s TV ad

Following the publishing of its first print ads for the iPhone 5S last week, Apple has begun running its first TV spot for the handset. The commercial popped up just a few moments ago during a football broadcast on FOX.

The advert is reminiscent of Apple's recent 'Plastic Perfected' iPhone 5c ad, in that it shows liquid coming together to form the flagship smartphone while the track "Ooh La La" by Goldfrapp plays in the background...

US Cellular to begin selling the iPhone 5s, 5c on November 8th

When T-Mobile became an official Apple partner earlier this year, US Cellular became the largest carrier in the United States to not offer the iPhone. But it looks like that's all going to change next month.

After turning down the popular handset in 2011, the company confirmed in May of this year that the iPhone was coming. And today, it announced that it will get the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on November 8th...

First iPhone 5s ad: ‘your finger is the password’

Since announcing a pair of new iPhones on September 10, Apple has not aired a single television commercial or published a newspaper ad to promote the flagship iPhone 5s.

Instead, all of Apple's advertising activities to date have centered around the colorful iPhone 5c, ostensibly because the company is having lots of issues fulfilling iPhone 5s demand.

But as Tim Cook & Co. expand the new iPhones into new markets - an additional 50+ countries will get the handsets by November 1 in addition to eleven launch countries - the first print ad for the iPhone 5s has just been spotted in The New Yorker magazine. It looks nice and I've included it for your viewing pleasure right after the jump...
