iPhone 5c

The launch: “incredible” demand, Tim Cook & Co. at Palo Alto store, line vids the world over

If it is Friday, you must be standing in line for the new iPhones. As the iPhone 5c officially hits stores and the iPhone 5s opens for both pre-sales and retail customers, Apple describes the rush to own the new smartphones as "incredible." From a Silicon Valley appearance by CEO Tim Cook to Hong Kong's own gold rush, talk of a down-and-out Apple is forgotten amid the lines and excited iPhone fanatics.

Acknowledging to AllThingsD that some models of iPhone 5s are "sold out or in limited supply," Apple reportedly is asking its suppliers to increase production by a third.

Gold is in - particularly when it comes to Apple's just-released iPhone 5s...

iFixIt tears apart the iPhone 5c

Just a few hours ahead of the iPhone 5s/5c launch in the United States and an additional ten major international markets, the repair wizards over at iFixIt gave the flagship iPhone 5s its usual teardown treatment. But wait, these guys are really quick - they've also posted their ritual teardown of another new iPhone, the gorgeous plastic iPhone 5c. I've included the most interesting tidbits and a nice video right after the break...

Apple Stores start being prepped with colorful iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c displays

We're just a few hours away from the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch here in the US, so it is not surprising to see Apple starting prepping its stores with colorful and somewhat original displays.

These displays are pretty original, if you ask me. From what I can tell, they're made of hundreds of little balls, brought together in a rectangular shape, and made of different colors...

Target offering 16gb iPhone 5c for $79 with 2-year contract

If you're still in the market for an iPhone 5c, you might want to check out Target at some point tonight or tomorrow. The retailer is advertising that it will be offering the 16GB model of the handset for just $79.

Of course, that price comes with a two-year carrier contract. But it matches Walmart's pricing, which is one of the lowest we've seen for the smartphone outside of Sprint's $100 off promotion for new customers...

Chinese carriers beat even the most aggressive U.S. iPhone 5s/5c offers

Remember last week's Apple stock tailspin launched by the high price in China of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s? Talk centered on no-contract versions of the new handsets costing more than $730 and how Apple should just keep dreaming about competing against inexpensive Android alternatives.

Forget all that, because China's No. 2 and No. 3 carriers are out with prices on subsidized iPhones and they are low. In fact, one market observer believes the deals could beat even the most aggressive American offers...

Apple patent describes location-based speech recognition

Now that Apple is pushing a number of differing iPhones to a wider range of countries, it might be wise if Siri understood languages spoken outside of North America and Europe. To help fine-tune the regional differences in language, Apple has filed for a patent on integrating geolocation with speech recognition.

The filing, published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last Thursday, seeks to use location clues to enhance Siri, as well as speech to text services available with the newly-introduced iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c...

Cook, Ive, Federighi sit down with Businesweek for a wide-ranging interview

Last time an Apple executive gave a detailed interview to Bloomberg Businessweek was in December 2012, when CEO Tim Cook talked Scott Forstall, collaboration and management changes.

Following last week's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c introduction and yesterday's release of iOS 7, the most significant visual change to Apple's mobile operating system since the original iPhone, the publication interviewed Cook and his lieutenants, design guru Jony Ive (who designed iOS 7) and software head honcho Craig Federighi.

In a wide-ranging interview, the three men discussed iOS 7, collaboration, competition, Android, the so-called cheap iPhone and other topics.

I've included the best quotes right below...

New iPhones could fuel 28 percent jump in Apple’s Christmas quarter sales

Although Apple's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c don't hit shelves until tomorrow, we already have a glimpse into how the new smartphones will boost sales. Judging by pre-sales that began last week, Apple could see a 28 percent jump in fiscal fourth quarter sales, according to one Wall Street observer.

In a note to clients yesterday, a Morgan Stanley analyst said the two handsets could propel iPhone sales of 34.5 million phones during the fiscal fourth quarter, up from 26.9 million units during the same period last year...

Ming-Chi Kuo projects 8M iPhone 5s/5c opening weekend sales

Despite worries Apple may be withholding pre-order figures on its new iPhones due to lower demand, one Wall Street observer says the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c could be a new sales record, topping last year's iPhone 5 launch.

According to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple probably will ship 6 to 8 million of the iPhones over the weekend, topping the iPhone 5 launch of 5 million units. The iPhone 5c will account for the majority of new iPhones sold between Friday and Monday...

Apple posts new ‘Designed Together’ ad showcasing iOS 7, iPhone 5c

Following the release of iOS 7 this morning, Apple has posted a new advertisement showcasing the redesigned software alongside the all-new iPhone 5c.

The ad is entitled 'Designed Together,' and similar to Apple's recent 'Plastic Perfected' commercial, there's no voiceover or dialogue. Instead, all you hear is catchy background music as various elements of iOS 7 and the iPhone 5c are displayed across the screen...

First iOS 7, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s reviews hit the web

Right after its big iPhone event last Tuesday, Apple gave a select group of journalists early access to the final build of iOS 7, along with its two new handsets: the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s.

The move is a familiar one for the company, who typically gives out products for analysis ahead of launch. And tonight, right on schedule, the embargo lifted on this week's round of reviews...

Poll: what iPhone 5c color would you pick?

Haters are unapologetically disparaging Apple's iPhone 5c as an old iPhone 5 dressed up in some fancy colors. There's nothing wrong with that, mind you. At the same time, the device appears to be quickly selling out pretty much everywhere, from the United States to China. Prudent watchers are wise to warn against underestimating the power of the color in marketing, even more so with the world's greatest marketing machine pitching the colorized iPhone 5c.

We've already asked you whether you'll be getting an iPhone 5s or 5c and now we zero in on the colorful iPhone 5c. So, which iPhone 5c color are you?
