iPhone 5

This is how thin the new iPhone might be

We've heard the rumors that the new iPhone will be 7.6mm thick, but what does that actually mean? Obviously, it will be thinner than the outgoing iPhone 4S, but exactly how thin will it be?

Is there anything that we can use to get a good picture of how thin the new iPhone will be, before it's officially unveiled in September? Well, actually, yes. And the good news is that you probably already have one in your possession.

The next iPhone could be 7.6mm thin

Last week, a video made rounds depicting a 0.1mm thinner front glass part said to belong to Apple's upcoming iPhone, in addition to a smaller home button and other interesting tidbits. Today, a new report out of Asia asserts that the next iPhone's enclosure is going to be just 7.6mm thick.

That's a marked improvement over the iPhone 4/4S that measures 9.3mm deep. So much about Tim Cook promising that "We're doubling down on security. I mean it"...

iOS 6 found to be scalable for taller displays, supports 5 rows of icons

It's widely believed that the new iPhone will, for the first time, feature a larger screen. It seems like it's been all but confirmed with reports from major news outlets and leaked next-gen iPhone parts.

But if you're still skeptical about Apple enlarging the screen on its smartphone, you might want to check this out. iOS 6 has been discovered to be completely scaleable to fit a taller, 640 x 1136 display...

Apple to roll out smaller dock connector to all iOS products this fall

We've been hearing that Apple was going to be changing the iPhone's dock connector since February of this year. Not only has the change been confirmed by a number of news outlets, but we've seen several leaked next-gen iPhone parts with the smaller charging port.

Along with its new smartphone, Apple is also expected to be using the new port in its iPad mini, which is rumored to debut this fall. But apparently it's not stopping there. iMore has learned that Apple is rolling out the smaller dock connector across its entire iOS line...

Does Epic Games have an iPhone 5?

Developer Epic Games, the maker of the awesome Infinity Blade series, an elegiac masterpiece that really showcases what iOS gadgets are capable of, may be in possession of one of the very few production units of Apple's highly anticipated handset, the iPhone 5.

A reader pointed us to a page on Epic's website which makes a brief mention of the device. It could be nothing, but it could be everything as well.

If Apple's elite developers are testing their warez against a sixth-generation iPhone, than the official unveiling couldn't be more than a few short weeks away, as previously rumored...

New iPad mini case, iPhone 5 cases and more

Apple is expected to unveil a number of new products this fall, including a revamped iPod touch, with a 4-inch display, and an all-new iPod nano. But the two most anticipated announcements are for the new iPhone (obviously), and the rumored iPad mini.

Despite Apple's attempts at secrecy, a number of major news outlets have confirmed that the company will be unveiling a refreshed smartphone, and a smaller tablet, at its September 12 media event. And we even (think we) have a good idea of what they look like...

iPhone 5,2 prototype supposedly spotted in server logs

We've heard the reports from "insider sources," and we've seen the leaked parts. But just in case you had any doubts that Apple was on the verge of releasing a new iPhone, check this out.

A handset, believed to be one of Apple's next smartphones, has been spotted pinging a developer's server logs. Codenamed iPhone 5,2, this could be a sign that a release is imminent...

Possible next-gen iPhone prototypes surface in Bangkok

Apple's iPhone media event isn't expected to happen for another 6 weeks, but the tech world is fairly confident in what the handset is going to look like. Since May of this year, we've seen several parts surface from different sources that all point to the same two-tone design.

And more evidence of the theory has surfaced today. Some new pictures are starting to make their way around the web of what some folks believe to be a finalized prototype for the next iPhone...

Sharp confirms display shipments for iPhone 5

Sharp president Takashi Okuda today confirmed to Reuters that his company will begin shipping displays for Apple's sixth-generation iPhone this month. This is the first time to my knowledge that a major supplier officially confirmed an unreleased Apple product, even if he didn't give a more specific date for shipments beyond this month. The panels will be four inches corner to corner, 30 percent bigger than current iPhones, sources told the news gathering organization...

Rumor: iPod nano with Bluetooth 4.0, new iPhone to sport 8-pin dock connector

The perfect wrist watch, a Star Trek communicator of sorts if you will, may be on the horizon if a new rumor by iLounge is anything to go by. Remember, the site reported on Monday that the mini iPad could hit the market in November, with thinner fourth-generation iPad being readied for early 2013 release along with two new iPhone cases for the iPhone 5 launch this fall.

Today, the publication reports on some interesting new tidbits regarding a possible Bluetooth 4.0 wireless networking for the next iPod nano plus a rumored eight-pin (like MagSafe) dock connector for the next iPhone...

The next iPhone and in-cell display tech

A certain hit-and-miss Asian trade publication (I know, don't start) reported this morning that the initial shipment of a sixth-generation iPhone could be disrupted due to yield problems with in-cell panels the device is believed to adopt.

Apparently, suppliers are experiencing yield rates too low to generate profits, despite the fact that Apple allegedly offered an estimated $10-15 per-panel subsidy. Really, what's up with in-cell tech and the next iPhone?

Partially assembled next-gen iPhone appears on video

The tech world was set on fire yesterday with images of what appeared to be a nearly-assembled next-generation iPhone. While we've seen similar parts, separately, over the past few months, put together they seemed to carry a lot more weight.

But if you're still having a hard time with the proposed two-tone design, or feel like it doesn't differ enough from its predecessor, you may want to check out this video. It shows the claimed partially assembled next-gen iPhone in all of its glory...
