Moving to blunt criticism over the iPad mini display, a rumor out of China asserts that AU Optronics (AUO) is working on building a crisper Retina screen for the next iPad mini with the same 326ppi pixel density as the iPhone 4/4S/5. AUO is one of the suppliers Apple sources display panels for the iPad mini from. The need to offer a Retina iPad mini was allegedly pressing enough to bypass the usual waiting period before providing sharper display...

iPad 4th generation benchmark shows 1GB of RAM, 1.4Ghz CPU, blows away predecessors
We think it's safe to say that the upcoming iPad 4th generation release will be a beast of a machine. In fact, the 4th generation iPad more than doubles the overall Geekbench benchmark score of the iPad 2. It also more than doubles the score of the incumbent iPad 3.
Whereas many complained about the iPad 3's relative lack of processing power when compared to the iPad 2 (in some cases, the iPad 2 outperformed the New iPad due to the strain placed on it by the Retina Display), you will not have that problem with the latest iPad iteration.
As Primate Labs points out, some of the first Geekbench scores are beginning to make themselves available online, and it paints a telling picture about the horsepower inside the iPad 4's inconspicuous casing...

Samsung said to end LCD sales to Apple
More fallout from Apple's patent lawsuit win against Samsung: the South Korean company's LCD arm will stop selling displays to the Cupertino, California iPhone maker. The reason? Samsung Display no longer sees Apple as "a cash-generator due to the iPhone maker's stiffer supply-chain management structure," a South Korean newspaper reports.
"We are unable to supply our flat-screens to Apple with huge price discounts," a senior Samsung source was quoted Monday. To make up for the lost business, both Samsung's own handset unit and Amazon are upping their orders from Samsung Display, the source said...
Apple could phase out the iPad 2 for the iPad mini
Apple will discontinue the iPad 2 in order to simplify product choices ahead of next Tuesday's introduction of a smaller tablet, one analyst predicts. Friday, Rob Cihra, analyst with Evercore Partners, told investors the move would be part of Apple's goal of providing "clearer product tiers."
The Cupertino, California-based company uses its engineering prowess in both hardware and software to overcome an otherwise soft technology market. The iPhone maker has increased its revenue by thirty percent this year at a time when demand for PCs has dropped by four percent...
Study: Android tablets catching up on the iPad
We can deride the quality and culture of Android tablets, but the once ginormous lead Apple's iPad had is shrinking amid the rise of tweener tablets.
In a bit of a two-edge sword, a new study finds 25 percent of Americans own a tablet, with Apple's device claiming just over half of the US tablet market. A year ago, more than 8 out of 10 tablets purchased bore the Apple logo...
Cook calls 2012 an ‘incredibly successful’ year for Apple
In his email to employees, Apple CEO Tim Cook describes 2012 as an "incredibly successful year" which continues "to show Apple's unrivaled leadership in this post-PC era".
And in order to mark the company's accomplishment, Cook announced Thanksgiving vacations will be extended for employees...
Study finds the iPhone 5 costs $0.41 a year to charge
Okay, so you have your new iPhone 5. Although Apple claims its new handset's battery can last around 8 hours, there will come a time when you have to recharge.
The new iPhone will cost you more to charge, but by only pennies, a new study finds. Keeping your four-inch iPhone 5 fully charged will cost you $0.41 cents per year, or $0.03 more than the iPhone 4...
Apple just scrapes past Amazon in JD Power’s tablet satisfaction survey
Apple's iPad is once again ranked as the No. 1 tablet in the United States. However, the company's lead over Amazon's Kindle Fire is as razor-thin as its products. According to customer satisfaction researcher JD Power, Apple scored 848 points with Amazon close behind with 842 out of 1,000.
The Cupertino, Calif. firm can be thankful that US consumers found the iPad tops for performance and ease of use -- categories heavily weighed in the survey -- while Amazon hit it out of the ballpark in price, an area carrying just 16 percent of the final score...

Here's another Kickstarter project that has made a name for itself by blowing past its funding goal. Out of Print's eBook Jackets are essentially hard cover book cases for your iPad.
The cases are customizable, and comparatively inexpensive. So if you own an iPad, either second or third generation, and use it to read eBooks, you might want to check this out...
Apple fighting Samsung adverts on its website, here’s Joy of Tech’s funny take
Apple is going to appeal a U.K. court ruling from earlier this week which mandates that Cupertino post a public apology on both its website and in British newspapers, basically free advertisement telling the public that Samsung did not copy the iPad's design, per the court's ruling. As this legal mess is being sorted out, Joy of Tech has an excellent take on what this notice could be like, included right below...
Here’s the original iPad prototype next to an iPad 2
Earlier today, leaked images of the original iPad prototype started making their way around the internet. The '035 mockups' depicted a significantly larger tablet that Apple is believed to have worked on between 2002 and 2004.
The photos included several fuzzy, black and white snapshots of the prototype, and were obviously several years old. But this afternoon, new pictures of the tablet have surfaced, showing how big it is compared to newer iPads...
