In iPhone deal, Baidu to share search revenue with Apple

In what could only be called a major agreement, the dominant Chinese search engine Baidu will share its search revenue with Apple for making it the default choice for Chinese iPhone users, it's been confirmed.

Though Baidu also shares revenue with Google on Android handsets that use its search engine, strong sales of Apple's devices in the 1.33 billion people market are bound to maximize opportunities for both companies...

iPhone Dev Team to release iOS 6 developer-only jailbreak

Indeed, there will be a jailbreak for iOS 6 in the very near future, but it might not be what you're expecting. This morning, MuscleNerd announced that the iPhone Dev Team will release an iOS 6 jailbreak "In the spirit of the experimental ecosystem JBers provide".

With that in mind, the team is releasing a developer only jailbreak for iOS 6. This means that you won't have access to a pretty interface like Cydia, but you will be provided with SSH access.

iOS 6 brings an array of new Emoji to your iDevice

Those of you that are really into Emoji will be happy to learn that iOS 6 is bringing a multitude of new icons to the mix.

Tweets show iOS 6 was most popular announcement of Apple’s keynote

Forget the announcements regarding the new Retina display MacBook Pro, OSX Mountain Lion and other non-mobile related products. According to Twitter, iOS 6 was the hottest topic of Apple's WWDC keynote.

Simply Measured, a social media research firm, analyzed more than 150,000 tweets on Monday with the #WWDC hashtag. And it found that out of all of Apple's big announcements, iOS 6 was the most popular...

The Stocks app kinda makes its way to the iPad in iOS 6

A few stock applications that were on the iPhone never made their way to the iPad. Indeed, the Weather, Stocks, and Clock apps for example have been nowhere to be found on the iPad since its launch in 2010.

With the introduction of iOS 6 beta though, Apple has officially brought the Clock app to its popular tablet – see our video walkthrough. Even though you won't find its icon anywhere, the Stocks app also makes an appearance...

iOS 6 lets you easily tell new apps apart

In case you weren't sure what apps have been newly downloaded on your iDevice, iOS 6 is making this clearer than ever as it now displays a little blue "New" label in the corner of the app icon.

I'm not sure it's going to be one of those life changing new features but I like how it makes it clear that you have downloaded an app and haven't launched it yet...

How Safari in iOS 6 handles media uploads

Those who run WordPress blogs probably use the mobile web interface as the official app is a mess.

Unfortunately, media uploads on websites are not supported in iOS 5, which makes it tough to add images to your posts on the go.

It's not just WordPress, Safari in iOS simply doesn't support media uploads. Luckily, beginning with iOS 6, Safari will finally deal with common HTML elements that web pages use to bring up the standard file browsing dialogue...

Finally, the iPad can lay claim to a Clock app of its own. That's right, with iOS 6, comes a new Clock app built from the ground up with the iPad in mind. Included with the Clock app is a world clock capable of storing up to 24 different locations, along with the obligatory alarm, stop watch, and timer functions. Check out our full video walkthrough of the new Clock app for all of the details. Be sure to comment and let us know what you think about it.

New in iOS 6: iTunes Match now lets you either stream or download songs

One of the markedly little improvements in iOS 6 that many people originally missed is the ability to stream songs stored in your music locker in the cloud. When Apple introduced iTunes Match last August, much of the debate centered around the question whether or not it streams songs.

Though it appeared as if it did, Apple denied iTunes Match streaming. Semantics aside, iTunes Match in iOS 5 used to exclusively download and store songs on your device. With iOS 6, you can now choose to either stream a song as many times as you'd like or download it for offline listening...

Shutdown spinner finally gets the Retina treatment in iOS 6

Brace yourselves, another gem has been discovered among the changes in iOS 6. It seems that after two years of neglect, the operating system's shutdown spinner has finally received the Retina treatment.

Now, in most cases, the resolution of a shutdown graphic isn't anything to fuss about. But for a company like Apple, who is known for its attention to detail, the upgraded icon is somewhat noteworthy...

10 jailbreak tweaks that were killed by iOS 6

With the release of iOS 5 last year, it was pretty clear that Apple had gotten plenty of inspiration from the jailbreak scene, notably by implementing 20+ jailbreak tweaks in its latest mobile operating system.

We were expecting Apple to do the same thing again this year, and in anticipation, we even came out with our own list of jailbreak tweaks we wanted to see in iOS 6.

If it isn't as obvious as last year, it's still evident that iOS has already killed a few jailbreak tweaks. We go over the list of those tweaks that were made obsolete by iOS 6...

Details like these make me love Apple even more

Something that has always amazed me about Apple – even long before I actually converted to the cult – is that the company pays an incredible amount of attention to details. It seems that everything has to be meaningful and thought all the way through.

The latest extreme attention to detail we came across was sent to us by iDB reader Aaron, and refers to the volume knob of the Music app in iOS 6...
