Camera+ updated with iCloud sync, Facebook single sign-on, taller iPhone 5 interface

Taptaptap's Camera+ sold over nine million copies since its inception in June of 2010 and it's remained my favorite go-to photography app ever since. A major new version just hit the App Store this morning, bringing several new features.

Most notably, version 3.5 enables iCloud sync and Facebook sharing with single sign-on. The former lets you automatically sync your Lightbox between devices and the latter simplifies Facebook authorization.

And best of all, the team confirms that Camera+ for iPad is around the corner. Count us excited!

Screens updated for iOS 6

Screens — one of our favorite VNC clients for the iPhone — has been updated with iPhone 5 support. Now, obviously, all apps will eventually be updated with iPhone 5 support, so why single out Screens? It's because the added real estate benefits the app in a major way, seeing as it's a remote desktop client.

Street View coming to Google Maps mobile web app in two weeks

I just read through David Pogue's freshly published article on the Mapgate situation and noticed a couple interesting revelations. The New York Times technology columnist says that in two weeks, you’ll be able to get Street View in the Google Maps mobile web on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Right now, you can use Safari on your iOS device to navigate to maps.google.com and use Google's maps on the web, though without spoken directions (you'll get written directions instead). More tidbits right below...

Survey: iOS 6 leading to increased iPhone customer dissatisfaction

For the first time, an iOS upgrade is leaving a bad taste in consumers' mouths. While it's usually the case that upgrades are viewed as improving the iPhone experience, a new survey finds iOS 6 actually hurt Apple's sterling customer service reputation. Apple's decision to replace Google Maps with its own service appears to be the root cause, say researchers.

"We have always seen an increase in device satisfaction as consumers upgrade their mobile operating system from one version to another," On Device DEO Alistair Hill told TechCrunch. While the rating for the upgrade from iOS 4 to iOS 5 received high marks, the move to iOS 6 saw ratings decrease to 7.65 from 7.75. On Device surveyed nearly 16,000 U.S. iPhone owners...

Apple could have kept Google Maps until iOS 7

Apple could have kept the stock iOS Google Maps for another year, if it wanted, a new report alleges. When Apple publicly announced in June it would drop the native Google Maps app in favor of its own solution, Google was shocked as its contract with Apple to keep the maps app on the iPhone "had more time remaining", the New York Times reports.

Luckily, if the paper's sources are to be believed, Google is working on a standalone Google Maps app though it won't be released immediately because Google wants to do it right and incorporate 3D view as it wants the program to be comparable to Apple Maps, namely its three-dimensional Flyover views of major cities...

Poll: Has your battery life improved with iOS 6?

After installing iOS 6, I've noticed a significant improvement with battery life on my iPhone 4S. Usually, I'm not someone who really likes to talk about battery life, as I'm always near a charger during the day.

I'm certainly not one of those that tends to either complain or rave over battery life. To me, it is what it is.

But I've noticed such an improvement with battery life on my iPhone 4S after installing iOS 6, that I just had to talk about it. It's way better, like, by a big margin. So the question stands to be asked, how is your battery life on iOS 6? Has it improved?

Where’s my iOS Wi-Fi Plus Cellular toggle?

Apple in early-August seeded iOS 6 Beta 4 to its registered developers. With it came a new feature in Settings, called Wi-Fi Plus Cellular. As Jeff explained in a lengthy post the following day, this toggle basically ensures that apps having trouble with WiFi can automatically switch over to cellular data. But why go implement and then remove this handy capability from iOS 6?

pod2g: I’m not working on a jailbreak for iOS 6

With the recent release of iOS 6, many jailbreakers have held back on the update so they can keep enjoying their favorite tweaks. Looking at conversations on iDB and Twitter, it appears that most jailbreakers are anxious to get on iOS 6, but not at the expense of their jailbreak. Those that find themselves in this situation are now patiently waiting for a jailbreak to be released.

Though there is definitely encouraging news on the iOS 6 jailbreak front, an untethered jailbreak as yet to be released. Pouring some cold water on everybody's hope, iOS hacker pod2g confirmed on Twitter today that he is not working on a jailbreak for iOS 6...

Eric Schmidt: a Google Maps app is up to Apple

As Apple continues to take heat over its new mapping software, the question on everyone's mind seems to be: will Google release a standalone Maps app for iOS? It's a fair question, considering it recently published a YouTube app for the platform.

But a report that surfaced last week claiming Google had already submitted a Maps app to Apple and was awaiting approval was quickly debunked. And Eric Schmidt himself confirmed yesterday that his company hasn't made a move yet...

Messages app now automatically switches to the last international keyboard used in a conversation

If like me you use two or more international keyboards when typing Messages on your iPhone, you know it can sometimes be a bit frustrating to have to switch between them. As a matter of fact, I've wished iOS could automatically figure out what keyboard to use for a while. And I'm hardly the only one. A few months ago, MacStories' Federico Viticci tweeted that iMessage should be able to automatically switch international keyboards based on the recipient's language.

It seems that someone at Apple heard him, as this is now a feature in iOS 6...
