Apple barred from using the term Split View in India over alleged trademark infringement

iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan have brought out several new multitasking modes on compatible iPads and Macs, including a split-screen feature referred to as Split View. That term is now under fire by the Delhi High Court which has ordered Apple to stop actively using and marketing Split View in India over an alleged trademark infringement.

The infringement claim was filed by a company called Vyooh, a Microsoft vendor, which owns the trademark for the name ‘SplitView’, reports The Indian Times.

Samsung and others want to stop Apple from selling refurbished iPhones in India

A month after Apple sought permission from the Indian government to sell used iPhones in the country, the move has ignited backlash from competitors like Samsung and local phone vendors who are now opposing Apple's move on environmental grounds, reports Bloomberg.

The newly formed Mobile and Communications Council has issued the letter to the government vehemently opposing Apple’s application. That group’s members include the largest Indian phone brands: Micromax, Intex and Samsung.

Apple's high profile manufacturing partner Foxconn Technology is in talks with government officials to build iPhones in India, reports Reuters. An Industries Minister told the publication that "Foxconn is sending a delegation of their officers to scout for locations in a month's time."

Altogether the Taiwanese-based tech giant, which is the world's larger contract maker of electronics, is aiming to develop 10-12 facilities in India, including factories and data centers. No additional details regarding the plans were given, but Reuters says the goal is to be done by 2020.

Apple’s ‘iPhone’ trademark is being challenged in India

Tamil Nadu-based company iVoice Enterprise is moving forward with its challenge to Apple's 'iPhone' trademark in India, reports PatentlyApple. The firm has asked the country's Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB) to remove the trademark from their registry.

The initial complaint, known officially as a "rectification petition," was filed on October 20, and many figured it would be immediately tossed out. However, today it is being reported that the IPAB is taking the trademark issue seriously, and has asked Apple to respond.

The Android One project has been conceived to bring stock Android experience to inexpensive mid-to-low-range handsets sold in emerging markets such as Russia, India, Brazil and China.
