Check Out These Beautiful iOS 5 Settings Panel Shortcuts

Ever since our initial post that showed how to create shortcuts for some of the most used items in the Settings app, many have taken a lot of interest in the idea.

Considering that there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 4S, and no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 in general, many are using Settings panel shortcuts as they wait for a jailbreak solution that works for them.

In the meantime, UI designer Jeff Broderick has taken things into his own hands, creating the most beautiful and detailed shortcuts icons we've seen to date...

How to Create Custom Shortcuts For WiFi Settings, Airplane Mode, and More – No Jailbreak Required

It's going on a month since the iPhone 4S made its initial debut, and we're still without a jailbreak. Not that we're complaining; we never expected a jailbreak for the 4S to be released this soon anyway.

Still, it's hard giving up some of the luxuries that jailbreaking brings to the for — namely SBSettings toggles to quickly enable and disable certain low-level functions like WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, etc.

Fortunately, there is a compromise. We've briefly touched on it before, but in this article and video walkthrough we'll show you how to create custom shortcuts to your favorite settings; no jailbreak required...

Samsung Uses Apple Apps Icons to Decorate New Company Store

The legal battles between Apple and Samsung have gone ugly, and it seems this is just the beginning. But if Samsung wants to make a strong case for itself in court, the company had better get its act together.

The above picture was taken in a new Samsung company store in Centro Sicilia, Italy. As you can see, the new store decors include icons of Apple's own Safari and App Store apps...

Alphacon Jailbreak Tweak Makes Your App Icon Labels Disappear

Have you ever wondered what your iDevice's springboard would look like if your icons didn't have any labels? Think of how much less cluttered your home screen would feel without all of that text.

There are already packages in Cydia that could help you go label-free, but there's a new kid on the block. Alphacon allows you to change the transparency level of your icon labels, or make them disappear all together...

Clear Your iOS App Icons Badges with BadgeClear

BadgleClear is a new jailbreak application, and I'd put in the same category as No Badges and No Folder Badges. Just like its name implies, BadgeClear will clean up your iPhone or iPad apps icons badge notifications at the tap of a button.

Unlike the 2 apps mentioned above, BadgeClear actually lets you choose what badges you want to clear up. Simply bring your icons to wiggle mode (tap and hold), then tap any badges you wish to remove. BadgeClear will even clean out all the icon badges inside Folders if you tap a Folder's badge...

SBFader: Customized Fading Effect for Springboard Icons

If you are looking for something to take your mind off of the iPad 2 jailbreak leak everyone keeps talking about, I've got just the thing. A new utility has been released in Cydia that adds another cool customization option to your springboard.

Alexandros Melakis brings us this new tweak that enables you to set your icons to fade in and out when switching between springboard screens. The jailbreak developer says SBFader's purpose is to "Enhance your springboard experience..."

iOS 5 iPod App is Now Called “Music”, Gets a New Icon

Another little detail that emerged from what we've seen of iOS 5 so far is that the iPod app is now gone and has been renamed/replaced by the "Music" app.

This is the same icon that you could find on the iPod Touch before. It seems that the iPod is now gone, and replaced by the Music app across all iOS devices. Yay for consitency!

How to Fix That Pesky White Cydia Icon After Jailbreaking With RedSn0w

Now that a viable jailbreak solution has been released for the latest version of Apple's firmware, all is well again in the world of jailbreaking.

That is of course, unless you're facing the dreaded white Cydia icon of doom after jailbreaking with RedSn0w.

If you've rebooted, re-jailbroken, and the white icon continues to haunt you in your sleep, what should you do?

Fret not; all of your options have not been exhausted; there's one more thing you can try, and it's easy as pie...

How to Speed Up Web Apps on the iPhone

In iOS 4.3, Apple has supposedly limited the speed of web apps added to the iPhone's home screen. Develepors and users have been reporting that web-based applications launched from an independent springboard icon are loading more than 2x slower than sites opened in Mobile Safari.

Meaning that, web apps/favorite sites launched from an icon shortcut aren't given any access to the Nitro Javascript engine that's baked into iOS 4.3. If Apple has intentionally hampered the performance of web apps in 4.3, such a move could been seen as a subliminal push to get people downloading more App Store apps.

If you've noticed lagging performance with your favorite web apps in iOS 4.3, there's an easy way to take advantage of Mobile Safari's full resources...

‘More Icon Folder’ for the App-Happy iPhone User

Even with the large amount of fantastic apps available for iOS these days, I try to keep my spring board as clean as possible. In fact, I was ecstatic when Apple announced the new folders feature in their last major overhaul of their iPhone software. In Apple-like fashion, the feature was easy to use, but came with some limitations.

You may only have 4 icons per row, with a limit of 12 total icons per folder. For most people that's more than enough to help you organize your cluttered home screen. But if you are a power user with more apps than the average joe, this limitation can be frustrating. But don't get too discouraged. If you are jailbroken, you certainly have options to fix this....
