iPhone 5s

Good news, you can now snag an iPhone 5s in 1-2 weeks

It's been an awfully tough task trying to come up with an iPhone 5s. Since launch, the device has been about as elusive as any Apple product in recent memory. For instance, Sebastien is still waiting on his Gold iPhone, even though I believe he's due to get it any day now.

The good news is that Apple's shipping estimates for the iPhone 5s are now down to 1-2 weeks, as pointed out by MacRumors. These estimate apply to all colors; so yes, if you're still after a Gold iPhone, you can have one in relatively short turnaround time.

Survey finds iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c attracting fewer early upgraders

Before the iPhone 5s and 5c went on sale this fall, pundits predicted that Apple would have trouble attracting early upgraders with the two handsets. With them featuring few changes from last year's model, the consensus was that most iPhone 5 owners would skip this generation.

And this week, the folks over at Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (or CIRP) have published a report that proves these forecasts accurate. According to their data, just 6% of the folks who have purchased an iPhone 5s or 5c in the last 6 weeks upgraded from an iPhone 5...

Boost Mobile lands iPhone 5s/5c, $200 off for new customers through November 24

I reported on October 21 that Sprint's prepaid brand, Boost Mobile, was gearing up to launch the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c real soon. The significant development would mark the first time in Boost's history it offered the iconic smartphone. Cody followed up with another write-up stating that Boost could sell the handsets at $100 in retail.

Today, the carrier has begun carrying the new iPhones contract-free. The unsubsidized devices start out online at just $449 for the 16GB iPhone 5c model and $549 for the entry-level iPhone 5s, each a cool $100 saving over Apple's regular price points. But if you're switching from another carrier, you can claim an additional $100 discount...

Apple serves iPad/iPhone inventory tracking website with a takedown notice

The tremendously useful iPhone and iPad inventory tracking tool is no more as Apple's legal sharks have served its owner with a DMCA takedown notice. The website would give you estimates on iPad Air and iPhone 5s availability, particularly handy for early adopters as Apple struggles to keep up with demand for these products.

Apple objected to how Apple-Tracker.com pulled data from its web store and took issue with its use of deeplinks, arguing the tool violates its Terms of Service by re-using content from the online Apple Store. Complying with Apple's request, the guy who runs the website has now taken his baby down..

iPhone 5s beats Nokia Lumia 1020 in camera shootout

You know how they say that sometimes more is less. Some also say that specs don't really matter anymore. Well, it all comes true in a camera shootout carried out by the folks at Laptop Mag between the Nokia Lumia 1020, and the iPhone 5s. For those who are still keeping track of specs out there, let's note that the Lumia 1020 comes with a whopping 41MP camera. Apparently that wasn't enough to beat the iPhone 5s 8MP camera though...

The iPhone 5s conclusively beat the Nokia Lumia 1020 in our photo face-off, taking seven out of 10 rounds–and tying one. Even after updating the Lumia 1020′s camera software, which reduced issues with the blue color cast on many images, colors were still more accurate on the iPhone. Apple’s device also excelled when delivering detail and contrast.

Apple bars gold/red/green/yellow device shots from devs’ marketing materials

Apple has updated its App Store Marketing Guidelines and is now advising developers against using images of the gold iPhone 5s in their marketing materials. According to the new rules, apps carried on the App Store can't feature screenshots on gold iPhone 5s devices nor can such shots be used in other materials used for marketing communications.

Developers should "feature only the most current Apple products", the updated guideline notes, specifically mentioning the following finishes or colors: iPhone 5s in silver or space gray, iPhone 5c in white or blue, iPad Air in silver or space gray and iPad mini in silver or space gray...

Taking slow motion video with your shiny new iPhone 5s is a piece of cake, but editing that video using a desktop app like iMovie may not be as straightforward or obvious. Fortunately, Apple has made it relatively easy to work with the 120 FPS video that your iPhone 5s is capable of shooting.

Just like on the handheld hardware, you can dial back the speed of video to showcase the high quality slow motion footage. Inside we'll show you how incredibly easy the process is.
