Apple begins using ‘iSight’ branding for iPhone 4 and 4S rear cameras too

Mac users may remember Apple's iSight branding for its standalone and built-in webcams. However in recent years, Apple hasn't used the appellation, replacing it with the FaceTime branding. But bringing the term back, iSight was reintroduced during yesterday's iPad announcement. Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller showed off the new iPad's camera, which was given the name iSight.

As noted by MacRumors, Apple has also extended the iSight name to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S's rear camera...

Heed the warnings from the iPhone Dev Team regarding jailbreaking

We've heard so many sad stories in the past about ones who accidentally lost their jailbreak, or thought they could go back to a previous firmware when they couldn't.

As jailbreak aficionados that truly saddens us. Hence, whenever we can help get out a warning, we're all about it.

The iPhone Dev Team, the folks responsible for tools like RedSn0w, PwnageTool and more, have sounded a loud warning about the iOS 5.1 firmware, and its implications on jailbreaking.

If you're at all concerned with jailbreaking, we highly recommend you listen up...

iOS 5.1 turns your iPhone 4S into an iPhone 4G

If you're not worried about your jailbreak, we're assuming you've already installed the iOS 5.1 update that was just released this afternoon. iOS 5.1 adds some great features like Siri support for Japanese users, a new camera app for iPad, and a new camera shortcut.

The new update also adds a 4G indicator to the AT&T version of the iPhone 4S. While it doesn't truly support 4G, AT&T can call the iPhone 4S a 4G device because it supports HSPA+ networks up to 16 megabits per second...

Siri gets a HAL 9000 theme

"Good evening, Dave."

Yes, the inevitable has finally happened, we're just curious why it took so long.

Indeed, Siri has finally been laced with a classic HAL 9000 theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It's all possible thanks to a WinterBoard theme, and a handful of UISounds that replace the stock Siri sounds. Check out our how-to video inside...

C-Spire Wireless now selling 16GB iPhone 4S for $150 with contract

Although the iPhone 4S retails for around $650 (16GB model), most folks can pick one up for significantly less than that. Carriers will generally absorb a large amount of the handset's cost as long as you promise to be a long-term customer.

Here in the US, all of the major carriers offer the 16GB iPhone 4S for $199 along with a two-year contract. And C-Spire Wireless, a southeastern regional operator, offers the entry-level iPhone 4S for just $149...

How to enable AirPlay Mirroring on your Mac with ‘Reflection’

It's one of those feature that seem so painfully obvious, but no one took advantage of the opportunity until now.

Reflection is an app for the Mac that allows you to use AirPlay Mirroring from your iPhone 4S or your iPad 2 directly to your Mac.

In times past, the only way to perform mirroring was via an Apple TV set-top box device. No longer.

Asymco figured that each iPhone is sold for roughly $630 ARPU from Apple to Sprint. This means, Sprint has committed to buying almost 24 million iPhones...

Motorola goes after Siri with its Android Voice Action feature

We've seen Motorola take on Apple in the courtroom, now it's taking on its popular digital assistant feature. The company just posted three videos to its YouTube account of three of its handsets taking on the iPhone 4S in voice-control.

The videos star the Motorola Atrix 2, the Photon 4G and the Electrify using Android's Voice Action component. The sentiment here seems to be that Motorola believes that its feature is superior to Siri, but we'll let you be the judge of that...

InvisibleSHIELD HD for iPhone 4S review

Most of you are probably familiar with the InvisibleSHIELD by Zagg. I've done several reviews of these products in the past, and while I don't like putting screen protectors on my iPhones, I have to admit that I am a huge fan of the InvisibleSHIELD for iPad (read my review for more details).

I do not put screen protectors or use cases on my iPhones. It's a matter of principle to me. If Apple went out of its way to design such a beautiful product, I see it is my duty to never alter the look and feel of the product in any way. You can call me crazy, that's fine.

This being said, my wife is the complete opposite. Not only she doesn't care much about the look and feel of her iPhone, but she badly needs a screen protector at all time because she's kinda careless about her stuff – you would not believe what can happen inside her purse!

So when the folks at Zagg sent me an InvisibleSHIELD HD for iPhone 4/4S for review, I decided to use it on my wife's iPhone as she'd be able to tell better than me how well it performs...
