Apple features Siri in Rolling Stone magazine ad

Apple's been heavily promoting Siri, an iPhone 4S-exclusive digital secretary, in television commercials that are being aired in the United States and promoted on Apple's website and their YouTube channel. But up until now, the company refrained from promoting the feature in print.

Apparently, the company has changed its mind as the first-ever Siri print ad makes its appearance in Rolling Stone magazine. The full-page advert depicts a user checking out a list of San Francisco coffee shops on an iPhone 4S.

This is accompanied by the tagline "I could use a latte" and a line saying "You speak. Siri helps. Say hello to the most amazing iPhone yet"...

iPhone 4S still top-selling smartphone in the US

After months of redesign rumors, the iPhone 4S debuted last October without any kind of external changes. Much like the new iPad, the familiar-looking handset drew an onslaught of "disappointing" headlines from around the web.

But Apple obviously knew what it was doing. The 4S has broken a number of sales records, and helped Apple sell more than 37 million iPhones last quarter. And perhaps even more impressive, 6 months later, it's still on top...

pod2g gives us a status update on iOS 5.1 jailbreak

When iOS 5.1 launched alongside Apple's new iPad earlier this month, we saw three different jailbreak methods quickly surface. But it seems like the trail has since gone cold, as we haven't heard any news on the jailbreak front in the past couple of weeks.

That, however, changed this morning, as infamous iOS hacker pod2g finally gave us an update regarding the status of the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. And just as we expected, it looks like it's going to be a while before we see a public release...

Sequences shortened: Another lawsuit targets Apple over “false and deceptive” Siri advertising

Two weeks ago, a guy from New York filed a class-action lawsuit in a California court, accusing Apple for “misleading” customers with Siri features set. Expect more of the same as another dude files a complaint, specifically mentioning "false and deceptive representations" of Siri's capabilities in nationwide advertising.

The plaintiff claims television commercials that depict what Siri is capable of "diverge greatly" from real world experience. To be perfectly clear, Siri does tend to behave somewhat erratically from time to time, though Apple warns it's a beta product.

The question is, should Apple heavily promote a beta product as the key feature of the iPhone 4S and - more importantly - is Siri advertising accurate and honest?

Almost 90% of iPhone 4S owners use Siri

Siri's popularity has been somewhat of a controversial topic over the last 6 months. Although the digital assistant dropped some jaws when Apple introduced it to the public last fall, a lot of folks have since written the feature off as a novelty.

But according to a recent study from Parks Associates, a consulting firm, Siri is much more popular than you probably would've guessed. Surprisingly, 87% of iPhone 4S owners surveyed use at least one Siri-related feature each month...

Loophole discovered that could allow A5 devices to downgrade from iOS 5.1

Folks with newer devices on iOS 5.1 will be happy to hear that iH8sn0w has uncovered a new loophole that could potentially allow users to downgrade their A5 gadgets to the more jailbreak-friendly iOS 5.0.1 in the near future.

As noted by Gadgetsteria, the Sn0wBreeze creator announced yesterday via his Twitter account that he has uncovered a "loophole" in Apple's APticket system that allowed him to downgrade his iPad 2 from 5.1 to 5.0.1...

Target knocking $25 off the iPhone 4S this month

Those who haven't picked up Apple's latest handset yet might be interested in this deal. 9to5Mac is reporting that some Target locations are taking $25 dollars off of multiple iPhone 4S models through the end of the month.

The site received a photo from a tipster showing the discount on an in-store advertisement at a store in Orlando, FL. And according to the ad, the deal applies to both 16GB and 32GB models, as well as all three carrier versions...

This mod will make your iPhone shine, literally

This is pretty cool. The folks over at iPatch, a UK-based iPhone repair shop, have come up with an interesting hardware mod that turns the headphone jack on your iPhone 4/4S into an LED flashlight.

If you recognize the name iPatch, it's probably because it's the same team that brought us the glowing Apple logo mod for the iPhone 4 last year. And now it's back with the "headphone jack torch..."

Rumor: next iPhone to feature 4.6-inch display

Now that the rumors for the third-generation iPad are over, rumors regarding Apple's next iPhone are kicking in full swing. Reporting on a rumor that's been floating around for quite awhile, Maeil Business Newspaper (via Reuters) says that Apple's next iPhone will feature a 4.6-inch display.

The upgraded screen size has been rumored to be featured in the iPhone for quite awhile. Many Android devices include a larger 4-inch screen, including Samsung's popular Galaxy S II. The 4.6-inch display would be Retina quality and manufactured by Samsung and LG...

Sprint reportedly readying Total Equipment Protection coverage for iPhone

Sprint, the third largest wireless provider in the United States, is reportedly in the process of readying its own warranty plan that should offer extended coverage to their iPhone customers, if a rumor published by SprintFeed is anything to go by.

The publication stopped short of saying whether Sprint's Total Equipment Protection coverage for the iPhone is anything like Apple's own AppleCare+ extended coverage that allows for two accidental damage repairs with a $49 service in exchange for a one-time payment of $99.

Just like AppleCare+, Sprint's Total Equipment Protection coverage reportedly will have to be purchased within a 30-day window. Sprint's regular Total Equipment Protection warranty covers both mechanical and accidental damage, loss or theft for a monthly payment of eight bucks. This translates to $96 a year or as much as $192 if matching a two-year span offered by the AppleCare+ coverage...
