Unlock your iPhone’s picture-taking potential with 3RDi

Between its 8MP sensor and internet connectivity, the iPhone 4S is one of the best point-and-shoot cameras around. It can download thousands of photo-editing apps and upload images to a number of services.

But the lack of interchangeable lenses, a weak flash, and other missing features means that the iPhone won't be replacing your DSLR anytime soon. Unless, of course, you had something like the 3RDi camera kit...

Free wireless internet provider FreedomPop to go LTE

Back in May of this year, we told you about FreedomPop. The up-and-coming wireless broadband provider plans to disrupt the traditional carrier model with a combination of free 4G service, and iPhone products.

The idea sounded great on paper: offer iPhone users free service in exchange for buying these $99 cases with built-in FreedomPop modems. But sadly, the company seemed intent on using WiMAX technology...

Google Chrome vs Safari speed test on iPhone

It's funny to hear so many reports about how much slower than Safari Google Chrome will inevitably be, due to its lack of access to the Nitro Javascript engine. While that may be true from a technical standpoint, and no doubt data heads will be able to show me numbers that back that fact up, in real world usage, such stats tend to be tossed to the sidelines.

I'm not going to claim that the following speed test is anything close to scientific, but it will give you a decent idea as to what to expect from Google Chrome.

So, who won our speed test? Check inside for the details...

Virgin Mobile opens its first 10 retail outlets tomorrow to showcase prepaid iPhone

We reported three weeks ago that Virgin Mobile will become yet another U.S. carrier to sell unlocked iPhones with month-to-month prepaid plans. It seems Virgin means business as a new report by Bloomberg Businesweek has it that the carrier will open its first ten retail stores in Chicago tomorrow, on the eve of its prepaid iPhone launch. These stores could lead to a national rollout and are said to be "aiming to profit from the iPhone’s expansion into the prepaid wireless market"...

Prepaid iPhone 4 and 4S now available on Cricket

As expected, Apple's smartphone went on sale at Cricket Wireless this weekend. The carrier is the first to offer a prepaid, no-contract iPhone here in the US.

How to install Cydia on iOS 6 beta

Last week a tethered jailbreak was released for iOS 6 running on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation. While it was great to have a jailbreak so soon, the jailbreak didn't include any GUI tools like Cydia, only SSH and afc2 support were added.

Fortunately, now that we have SSH access, we can transfer and install pretty much anything on our jailbroken iOS 6 devices, including Cydia.

Check inside for the full video tutorial that shows you how to install Cydia on iOS 6 beta...

New iOS 6 3D Maps ported to iPhone 4

With its in-house mapping solution in iOS 6, Apple basically pulled a Siri in that folks in Cupertino have limited this headline feature to the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 or later (full iOS 6 device compatibility list is here). Now, I realize graphics-intensive 3D Flyovers require A5-enabled devices. But turn-by-turn? Seriously, Apple?

Worry not, those crazy Russian hackers have cracked the code to run the new iOS 6 Maps on the iPhone 4, complete with 3D Flyovers and turn-by-turn navigation - without even using Cydia...

How to jailbreak iOS 6 beta with RedSn0w 0.9.13dev1

Earlier today, the iPhone Dev Team released RedSn0w 0.9.13dev1 to jailbreak the iOS 6 beta on certain iOS devices. Because this jailbreak is obviously aimed at developers only, the process and the results are a tad bit different that normal.

If you're a developer, and you have an iPhone 4, 3GS, or iPod touch 4th generation running iOS 6 beta, then step inside as we showcase how to jailbreak with this development version of RedSn0w.

Use the Force to protect your iPhone with these new Star Wars cases

If you're a case-maker trying to play in a crowded space like the iPhone market, you really just have two options. One, try to be the best (see Otterbox, Case-Mate). Or two, use a niche to try and appeal to as big of an audience as possible.

PowerA has definitely gone with the latter strategy for its new line of officially licensed, Star Wars cases. Well I guess if you're targeting large audiences, the iPhone-toting Star Wars crowd isn't a bad choice...
