Following Apple's release yesterday of iOS 7.0.6, the evad3rs have released an update to their evasi0n7 jailbreak tool. The update, which brings the tool to version 1.0.6. included a fix for an SSL connection verification issue, which turned out to be a major security flaw in the operating system.

For this reason, we recommend that, if possible, you update to the latest firmware and then use evasi0n7 1.0.6 to jailbreak your device…

Theme Thursday: Jaku, Slab and Redsgn 2.0

The fourth edition of Theme Thursday has arrived, a weekly column that covers some of the best theme releases for Winterboard to date. This week's roundup continues to focus on iPhone and iPod touch themes, although many are designed for the iPad as well. Moreover, after listening to your feedback for the last three weeks, we have plans to publish an iPad theme roundup in the near future.

This week, we highlight the following themes: Jaku, Slab and Redsgn 2.0. To get the reflective dock used in the screenshots, download ClassicDock. I am also using a custom font called Cartogothic Std that is applied using BytaFont. In this edition of Theme Thursday, I provide a combination of stock images from the designers alongside my own screenshots. Take a look…

How to get a semi-working Photo Booth port on the iPhone

Photo Booth—it's one of the iPad only apps that sort of gets lost in the shuffle when talking about stock apps. It's an app that people play with when they first get their iPad's only to never really touch it again. Despite that, there always seems to be a concerted effort amongst members of the jailbreak community to port Photo Booth to the iPhone.

Two years ago, Photo Booth was ported to the iPhone 4S with much fan fare. Today, it's been ported to iPhone's running iOS 7. The good news is that it more or less works like you'd expect. The bad news is that, at least in its current form, it's a buggy mess devoid of many of the effects found on the iPad version. Have a look at our video walkthrough past the break to see what I mean.

Gameboy Advance emulator GBA4iOS 2.0 to be released soon

A few days ago, Jeff posted about an awesome new website called webNES that allows iPhone and iPad users to play Nintendo games directly from Mobile Safari. But while the web-based emulator does not require jailbreaking your iOS device, that benefit is largely overshadowed by the sluggish performance of most games. Fortunately, in less than two days, gamers will have another great no-jailbreak alternative in GBA4iOS 2.0. Take a look…

Theme Thursday: Enkelt Neue, Laguna 3, Zanilla and more

Welcome to the third edition of our Theme Thursday roundup, which highlights some of the best theme releases for Winterboard each week. The themes featured this week are: Laguna, 3 4 All, Enkelt Neue, Zanilla 2.1 and iRa. I'm also using ClassicDock and Iconomatic throughout. Take a look…

Developers say iOS 7.1 fixes issue impacting location-based apps

It appears that an issue in iOS 7 that disabled the geolocation functions on apps that were force-closed by the user is being corrected in iOS 7.1. Developers say that in the latest iOS 7.1 betas, force-closing an app does not disable its location-aware functions.

This has been a major problem for developers since the launch of iOS 7 last fall—particularly for those who had location-based apps. Some devs have even reported that their App Store ratings have plummeted in the last 6 months due to the technical change...

Moga knocks 20% off price of ‘Ace Power’ iOS 7 controller

MOGA has dropped the price of its 'Ace Power' iOS 7 gaming controller by 20%, bringing it down to $80 from $100. The move follows similar price drops by both Logitech and Strata on their respective MFi controllers, signaling a trend in the space.

The Ace Power was the first of the iPhone-compatible game controllers to hit the market when it launched in November, and it features a d-pad, dual analog sticks, 4 action buttons/triggers, and a built-in 1800 mAh battery for recharging your device...

Popular theming app pulled from Google Play due to Apple copyright complaint

Themer, a popular Android customization app by MyColorScreen, was pulled from the Google Play marketplace last week. The app allows users to browse a selection of home screen themes, and it appears that one of them may be guilty of copyright infringement.

The theme is called 'Seven,' and as you've probably guessed by now, it looks like its creator got a lot of his inspiration from iOS 7. So Apple has filed a copyright complaint with Google, forcing the search giant to remove the app to avoid further legal ramifications...

iOS 7 references unreleased Apple TV hardware

Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac did a nice job discovering some hidden references to an unreleased Apple TV hardware in the iOS 7 code. Specifically, the strings mention 'Apple TV 4,1', which indicates a major refresh to the Apple TV hardware. By comparison, the current third-generation Apple TV has a designation of 'Apple TV 3,1'.

This is yet another indication that Apple could refresh the Apple TV box later this year, as some rumors have predicted. The current $99 set-top box was last updated 705 days ago...

How to password protect individual apps with iAppLock

While setting a passcode on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch can go a long way towards improving the security of your device, it is meaningless in situations where it is already unlocked and an invasive family member decides to read through your Messages history or tamper with your ongoing Candy Crush Saga game.

Fortunately, a myriad of jailbreak tweaks have been released over the years that password protect apps on iOS devices. iAppLock stands as one of the first candidates to be updated with support for iOS 7 or later, and it has some useful features. Read ahead for a complete rundown…
