Quickpick: Set Shortcuts in Notification Center Without Jailbreaking

Since Apple released iOS 5, users have been running out of reasons to jailbreak their devices. The software update replaced several tweaks and utilities that were only available to jailbreakers in previous versions of iOS.

So, why are people still jailbreaking iOS 5? A major reason is for the ability to customize the Notification Center with widgets and system shortcuts. But you may not even have to jailbreak for that anymore, thanks to a new app called Quickpick.

iMessage Bug Lets Thieves Keep Texting From a Stolen iPhone

One of the benefits of iCloud is Find My iPhone, a service that lets you locate and remote wipe a handset if it is stolen or misplaced. While remote wiping an iPhone on iOS 5 cleans the device of your personal information, a bug in iMessage has been discovered that lets a thief continue to send messages from someone's iMessage account.

Ars Technica has uncovered the bug, and the scariest part is that permanently deleting your Apple ID is the only way to circumvent the issue until it is addressed by Apple.

Recent iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Was in Response to SIM Card Errors

Apple released a number of updates for its iOS products this week. It seeded the second beta for iOS 5.1 to developers, Apple TV 4.4.4, and a small iPhone 4S update.

The latter release was strange because it wasn't available to everyone (just those on iOS 5.0 or lower), and the version number didn't change. So, what was it for?

The State of the iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

But that could soon change thanks to iOS hacker pod2g. He's been working hard on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 and keeping the community updated via Twitter and blog posts. Now it seems that he's just hit a major milestone in his progress...

Pod2g has demonstrated a working untethered jailbreak on a third-generation iPod touch running the latest iOS software, and recently confirmed it to work on the iPhone 4. Now he's added several more devices to the list.

By enabling a nifty feature in Settings, a simple "Speak" option can be shown any time you select a chunk of text. Siri can then read that text out loud through your iPhone's speaker at a pre-programmed speed.

Invoke iOS 5’s Native Twitter By Means of an App Icon Shortcut

As if there weren't already plenty of options to invoke iOS 5's native Twitter integration. This time, the method is by means of a handy app icon conveniently placed on your iOS device's Home screen.

TubeCenter: Add YouTube to Notification Center

TubeCenter — as its name might allude to — is a tweak that allows you to place a YouTube widget in iOS 5's Notification Center.

The only problem with this tweak, is that it lacked any keyboard support — at least it did during my initial testing.

Once it's updated with the proper keyboard support, fans of YouTube could find this tweak useful. Check out our synopsis inside...
