AppTweeter: Easily Tweet About Your Favorite App Store Apps

The sharing option for Apple's "Tell a Friend" feature in the App Store is a bit on the limited side. With a stock iPhone, you can't even use iOS 5's Twitter integration to tell your friends about your favorite apps.

Jailbroken iPhones, on the other hand, can — thanks to a recently released jailbreak tweak by the name of AppTweeter. Check inside for the full rundown...

Popular Science Sees Readership Boost Thanks to Apple’s Newsstand

Apple's Newsstand is proving to be a big hit, both with those who own iPads and iPhones and with those behind the magazines and newspapers themselves.

New figures released by the people behind Popular Science show just how big a difference to subscriber numbers Newsstand has made. In the wake of iOS 5 and Newsstand's release, Popular Science has seen its subscribers jump by around 4,000, and its customer base continues to grow...

ICS Paper Cuts, Critiquing Android, and Attacks on Fanboyism

Most jailbreakers will recognize the hacker known as chpwn. Grant Paul is responsible for many of the most popular iOS jailbreak tweaks in Cydia, including Infinidock and Gridlock. He also helps manage sites like JailbreakQA and works on jailbreaks with the Dev Team.

Grant has started a new blog called "ICS Paper Cuts." His site is dedicated to critiquing the Android platform, particularly the recent 4.0 version, Ice Cream Sandwich. Needless to say, he's been dealing with plenty of hate for his critiques of the operating system's design and usability.

Hacker i0n1c Suggests the Possibility of Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.5

For reasons that we cannot begin to imagine, known hacker and security guru Stefan Esser (i0n1c) has tweeted that he will do an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.5. Yeah, not iOS 5, but iOS 4.3.5. We don't get it, either.

Dedicated jailbreakers that haven't wanted to ditch their untethered jailbreaks are likely still on iOS 4.3.3 (it was the last firmware that was accompanied with an untether, ala JailbreakMe). Then there's the possibility of a few users who truly hate iOS 5 and haven't updated for that reason. Whatever the intention, i0n1c seems to think that we need an untether for 4.3.5.

A Gallon of Gas Can Charge an iPhone Once a Day For 20 Years

It may seem something of a departure from the usual iDB content, but just bare with us for a second.

According to Bill Colton, a VP at ExxonMobil, just one gallon of the company's gas has the power to charge an iPhone once per day for a whopping twenty years. That's a lot of charges.

While it is highly unlikely that Apple's next iPhone charger will come with a tank instead of a plug, Colton's point is well received – there's a fair bit of power in that thar gasoline...

OpenBackup: One of the Most Promising Jailbreak Backup Solutions on Cydia

Today I tried out OpenBackup, a new package backup solution for your jailbreak apps and tweaks. Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical. I've had my fair share of experiences with backup tools for jailbreak apps tweaks in the past, and they either don't work, or are overly complicated.

Outside of PKGBackup, I can't really recommend any backup solutions, although I have yet to try iBye (I have heard good things about that).

But even an excellent app like PKGBackup can be borderline confusing when it comes to safely backing up and restoring your Cydia tweaks. With the advent of iCloud, I held out hope that a backup tool could harness its power for backups and restores, and that's just what happened.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing OpenBackup, the first tool of its kind that utilizes iCloud for seamless backups and restores...

pod2g Shows iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak on Video

It has now been over 2 months since Apple released iOS 5 to the masses, and we still don't have a working untethered jailbreak. The company has obviously made things a little more complicated for hackers.

But that doesn't mean that it's impossible, as infamous hacker pod2g continues to prove. The security expert has just uploaded a new video of an untethered jailbreak running on an iPhone 4, and has given a status update on its progress...

Launch Center: A Beautiful iPhone App For Launching Shortcuts and URL Triggers

Given the fact that Apple recently pulled QuickPick from the App Store, all eyes are on launcher apps for iOS. In case you missed it, QuickPick allowed you to create iOS system shortcuts and add them to Notification Center, thereby mimicking much of the functionality that jailbreakers enjoy.

Apple didn't want such functionality in its App Store for whatever reason, so it pulled QuickPick yesterday. There's another app that worked exactly like QuickPick (only it looked better), but Apple made the developer remove Notification Center integration before it could be made available in the App Store. The app is called Launch Center, and it's still a gorgeous app for launching shortcuts and URL actions on the iPhone.

SwitcherCleaner Micromanages Your iPhone’s App Switcher

SwitcherCleaner allows for more fine tuned control over the apps in your App Switcher. It works by automatically placing the items found in your App Switcher into "quit" mode, and only displays apps that are actually running.

SwitcherCleaner is an offshoot of a previously released tweak entitled SwitcherMod. In fact, it borrows its only two features directly from SwitcherMod and brings them to iOS 5...

NCInstaCall: Make Phone Calls Directly From Notification Center

NCInstaCall is a jailbreak widget for iOS 5 that allows you to make phone calls directly from Notification Center; hence, the "NC" in NCInstaCall.

The purpose of the tweak is to allow you to dial your friends from anywhere. The fact that Notification Center is accessible from anywhere in iOS 5 makes this possible.

Take a peek at our video synopsis of NCInstaCall inside...
