Apple launches 21.5″ iMac with Retina 4K display, all 27″ models now have Retina 5K display

As suspected, Apple today announced a refresh to its all-in-one desktop, refreshing the 21.5-inch model with a brand spanking new screen with 4K resolution versus a 1080p screen on the previous-generation model.

In addition, the Retina 5K display is now available on every 27-inch iMac as Apple has removed the non-Retina 27-inch models from sale.

The updated all-in-ones come outfitted with more powerful processors and graphics, two Thunderbolt 2 ports and new storage options that make the high-performance Fusion Drive even more affordable.

Last but not least, the Cupertino firm has refreshed its keyboard, mouse and trackpad accessories with rechargeable batteries, Bluetooth 4.0 networking and more, with the Magic Trackpad 2 featuring Force Touch technology.

Next-generation 21.5-inch iMac with 4K screen could hit as soon as next Tuesday

Code strings discovered in El Capitan Developer Preview earlier this summer have pointed at a substantial refresh coming to Apple's 21.5-inch iMac, even more so given that computer wasn't updated alongside its 27-inch sibling in May 2015.

A next-generation 21.5-inch iMac with an ultra-sharp screen featuring a glorious 4K resolution is now expected to launch as soon as next Tuesday, as per multiple reliable sources who spoke with 9to5Mac.

KGI: upcoming iMac refresh taps LED phosphor material to boost color saturation of the display

Following his prediction a month ago that next-generation iMacs will launch very soon, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed more details in an analysis shared Thursday with clients, a copy of which was obtained by AppleInsider.

The new iMac upgrade will feature a “much better display,” owing to the use of a LED phosphor material known as KSF to boost color saturation.

KGI: new iMacs in the pipeline feature faster CPUs and ‘much better display quality’

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is arguably the most reliable Apple analyst out there, is out with a new analysis offering some new details regarding Apple's upcoming refresh of the iMac lineup.

According to his note to clients, a copy of which was obtained by AppleInsider, Apple will updated iMacs this quarter with faster processors from Intel and enhanced screen technology designed to provide a “much better display quality.”

KGI predictions: Apple Watch Sport in yellow/rose gold, new iMacs & thinner iPad mini due this fall

Well-connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a new report to clients ahead of Apple's June quarter earnings report, which is due this coming Tuesday.

The note, a copy of which was obtained by AppleInsider, provides several predictions regarding Apple's upcoming product refreshes.

For starters, Kuo is expecting new Apple Watch Sport variants in rose and yellow gold color options matching the upcoming 'iPhone 6s' and 'iPhone 6s Plus' colors. He also wrote that new iMac models with upgraded processors could arrive later this year, in addition to a thinner, lighter iPad mini and more.

Apple could be prepping 21.5″ iMac with 4K screen & touchpad-based remote with Siri support

In October 2014, Apple refreshed its flagship all-in-one (my dream desktop) with an insanely sharp 5K screen, among other hardware changes. The update left seasoned watchers wondering about the fate of its smaller 21.5-inch baseline sibling, which has remained stuck with a Full HD 1,920-by-1,080 screen.

As suggested by code hooks 9to5Mac discovered in the second beta of El Capitan Developer Preview, the 21.5-incher could gain an ultra-sharp screen with a 4K resolution. In addition, it appears the Apple Remote could receive a substantial upgrade with a multi-touch surface, Bluetooth, Siri support and other perks in the works.

Apple launches 15″ MacBook Pro with Force touch, refreshes 27-inch iMac while bringing down price

Apple on Tuesday launched a new 15-inch MacBook Pro model with Force Touch trackpad, Intel's faster fourth-generation Haswell chip and other features

In addition, the Cupertino firm has refreshed its 27-inch iMac with 5K Retina screen while making the system more affordable than before.

The new baseline iMac configuration has a slower 3.3GHz chip (previously 3.5GHz) and the traditional 1TB hard drive instead of the Fusion drive. More importantly, it now starts out at just $1,999, a much appreciated discount from the previous asking price of $2,499. In addition, the top-end iMac configuration is now available at a lower price of $2,299.

Did LG inadvertently leak an iMac with 8K screen?

In a somewhat bizarre move, Apple supplier LG Display may have inadvertently leaked Apple's unannounced iMac whopping an 8K Retina screen, writing on its website last week that, I'm quoting, “Apple has also announced that they will release the ‘iMac 8K’ with a super-high resolution display later this year”.

Apple, of course, has not publicly announced plans for a new iMac update. LG Display is Apple's important supplier of desktop and mobile screens and the Cupertino company is known to have cut off suppliers who pre-announced its products. Neither LG nor Apple commented on the matter at post time.

Slow UI animations on Yosemite? Try this simple tip

I currently have two machines running Yosemite: one is a brand new Retina iMac, and the other is an older MacBook Air. Both these machines have been feeling incredibly slow in regards to general animations of the User Interface. One obvious way to test this is to bring up Exposé, which then turns both my Macs into stuttering slugs. While I can kind of understand why my old MacBook Air would behave like this, there is absolutely no excuse for my iMac to. Talking about this issue with someone at the Apple Store, I was offered an original workaround.

Apple now offering refurbished models of 27″ iMac with Retina 5K display

If the thought of burning $2,500 on a brand spanking new iMac with Retina 5K display gives you sleepless nights and panic attacks, perhaps you wouldn't mind getting a little used machine for less money? If so, Apple's got you covered: the dream all-in-one with its unmatched industrial design and remarkably clear 27-inch screen is now available on the Refurbished Online Apple Store.

Is the new iMac with Retina 5K display the best Mac you can get?

The Mac Pro's days of being Apple's biggest and baddest Mac may be numbered, even with that redesign that everyone either loves or hates. Whether it looks like a trash can or not, the Mac Pro has always been the most desirable Mac on the market.

Well, it was.

When Apple showed the new iMac with Retina 5K display to the world everything changed. Not only does the new iMac boast that gorgeous 5K screen, but while that would once be its only claim to fame, the new iMac is more than a one trick pony. The new iMac has plenty of bite to go with its bark.

Speaking of the event, did anyone notice the graphic Apple flashed a couple of times that showed its product line up from the Apple Watch up to the new iMac? Did you notice what was conspicuous by its absence? If the Apple Watch is the beginning of Apple's new product lineup, you would expect the Mac Pro to be at the other end. But it wasn't.

Telling?
