‘Bastion’ and ‘Walking Dead’ games updated with iOS 7 controller support

It seems like the gaming scene on iOS is about to explode—even more than it already has. As most of you know, iOS 7 brings about controller support for games, and a few high-profile names have already signed on.

Last week, both Logitech and ClamCase began teasing their respective upcoming controllers for iOS 7. And yesterday, two big-named games from Telltale and Warner Bros studios were updated with support for them...

Logitech teases first iOS 7-compatible game controller

In addition to its new design, and new features, iOS 7 includes a number of new tools for developers to take advantage of. And one that we're really excited about is support for third party game controllers.

Games in iOS 7 will be able to tie into Apple's Game Controller framework, allowing for the universal use of authorized 'MFi' devices. And today, Logitech and others began teasing their first MFi gamepads...

Apple approving games with iOS 7 controller support

User excitement for iOS 7 continues to mount, as we are now less than 48 hours away from the public release. The update includes a number of new features, like AirDrop and Control Center, as well as an all-new UI design.

But there's one big change coming in iOS 7 that continues to fly under the radar, and that's support for third-party game controllers. In fact, it's been discovered that Apple is already approving games with controller support...

Add tactile feedback to your iPad using the Fling joystick

A child of the console revolution, there is nothing better than tactile feedback when gaming. None of these new age children know the feeling of a Game Boy D-Pad. Instead they are stuck with slick screened iPod touches, where the most tactile feedback they will feel is the orange peel rubberized drag of a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of iOS gaming, but there is just something more than nostalgic about tactile feedback.

Some day, not in the near future, Apple will finally include haptic feedback in their screens courtesy of a Senseg-like interaction between the screen and electrons on the finger. However, until then, we are stuck. In an effort to match the desires of similar tactile fans, Ten One Design provides the Fling analogue joystick for iOS devices...

Apple said to be working with Logitech and others on MFi gamepads

Yesterday we talked a little bit about a new feature (or rather, developer API) in iOS 7 that offers support for MFi (Made for iPhone) certified hardware game controllers. This will be the first time that Apple has officially supported third party gamepads.

Today a few more details have surfaced about Apple's plans regarding these controllers. A new report is out this afternoon claiming that the Cupertino company is working with the likes of Logitech and MOGA to produce a new line of iOS gaming peripherals...

Apple invites robotics company Anki onstage to show off new iOS accessory

This is kind of interesting. Halfway through his opening remarks, Tim Cook called up the folks behind a new robotics company called Anki up to the stage to show off an innovative new iOS accessory called AnkiDrive.

Essentially, they are tiny, artificially-controlled race cars. You can choose to play against your friends, or take your chances against the AI.  The promise here is that AnkiDrive will "take iOS gaming to a whole new level."

iPhone5mod, the makers of unofficial Lightning docks, cables and adapters, today announced an interesting new accessory that will appeal to gaming and messaging fans who desire a tactile feedback ad physical gameplay controls. The EX Hybrid Game Controller is billed as "the lightest and thinnest keyboard for iPhone ever-made" and consists of two parts.

There's a back case that attaches to the back of your iPhone 5 and a second plate which provides physical gamepad buttons. The accessory connects to your phone via Bluetooth 3.0 wireless technology and each plate adds only 2mm to the overall thickness of your iPhone 5...

New iPhone gamepad flaunts Bluetooth 4.0 and solar power

The iPhone gamepad space is starting to get a little crowded these days, mostly thanks to Kickstarter. It seems like every week now we see a new controller pop up on the crowd-funded site promising to be better than the last.

But so far, none of them have managed to go mainstream — outside of maybe the iCade line — meaning it's still anyone's game. And this week, Justice Frangipane and crew decided to throw their hats into the proverbial ring...

The WynCASE: an interesting take on the iOS gamepad

Now, I know what you're thinking, "ugh, not another iOS gamepad! We've seen dozens of these already and they're either too expensive, too bulky, or too complicated." And you're right, we've seen a number of these things, and most of them fit that description.

But what if I were to tell you that this new gamepad called the WynCASE was different? What if I told you that it was inexpensive, extremely thin, and didn't require a Bluetooth connection or batteries? Does any of this pique your interest? Good. Keep reading...

ThinkGeek discounts iCade, iCade 8-Bitty and more for Black Friday

Here at iDB, we're big fans of the iCade controller line. Both the iCade arcade cabinet and the 8-Bitty gamepad have a fun, retro look to them, and they support more iOS titles than any other controller.

So as you can imagine, we were pretty excited when we found out that ThinkGeek was going to be discounting the two accessories, along with several other items, as part of its major Black Friday sale....

iHelicopters release a new iDevice-controlled toy: the iUFO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98p_epP0TRQ

iHelicopters, the makers of iPhone-controlled vehicles are on a roll again. After creating a lineup of iPhone-controlled helicopters, RC cars and the rocket-launching Cobra copter, their latest offering is the iUFO. As the name suggests, it's a flying device that resembles an unidentified flying object. Its rotor system is maneuverable via your iPhone, iPad or iPod using a free app that talks to the unit via the transmitter which plugs in the headphone jack .

Its spherical design is aimed at protecting the rotors from hitting nearby objects and breaking. The manufacturer says the system even allows iUFOs to roll over the ground without crashing the rotors and says you don't have to worry about crashing the unit against the walls or ceiling...

Meet KOLOS, the world’s first iPad gaming wheel

We've seen a number of gamepads built for iOS devices over the years, but this has to be the first time we've ever seen an iPad gaming wheel. In fact, the developers of the KOLOS say it's the first of its kind.

The KOLOS is a tabletop steering wheel that cradles your iPad and uses its built-in accelerometer to give you a more realistic gaming experience when playing titles like Real Racing and Need for Speed...
