The MiniSuit SPORTY armband lets you carry your iPhone 6 and your keys while working out

Apple Watch may be a game changer when it comes to fitness activities, but not everyone has jumped on that bandwagon yet. Some of us still have to use our caveman iPhone 6 devices while working out.

The MiniSuit SPORTY is an armband specifically designed for the iPhone 6 with a Velcro strap so you can hit the elliptical in style. Plus, with the handy side pouch, you don't have to worry about your locker key falling out of your pocket while you ride.

Adidas buys fitness app maker Runtastic for $239 million

Runtastic has been acquired by sportswear giant Adidas, the company's CEO and co-founder Florian Gschwandtner announced in a blog post on Wednesday. The deal is said to be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 220 million euros (or $239 million).

For those unfamiliar with Runtastic, it develops and maintains a number of fitness apps for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry. It has also dabbled in hardware with a GPS watch, a heart rate monitor, and the recently-released Orbit fitness tracker.

The Ninja Sports is an armband that will carry your iPhone 6 and much more

When out for a jog, you may want to have your iPhone 6 close at hand (or arm), but also need a place to keep your keys and ID. A rattling set of keys in the pocket is an annoying distraction and if your workout clothes are too lose or too tight, you might risk losing important stuff, like your ID.

Avantree's Ninja Sports armband is big enough to house your iPhone 6 with enough room and a separate pouch for keys, cards, and other things you might want to take along on your jog.

New tweak brings iOS notifications to Xiaomi’s Mi Band

XiaoMi's recently launched US online store doesn't carry any actual smartphone hardware yet, but you can buy hardware like headphones, battery packs, and a fitness device called the Mi Band.

The Mi Band is akin to some FitBit models, in that it's slim, understated, and lacks a touch screen. Due to the tracker's lack of battery draining features, it gets really good battery life upwards of 30 days.

Perhaps the most attractive thing about the Mi Band is the price. Retailing for just $14.99, it's much more affordable than any dedicated fitness tracker I've ever seen, let alone a full-featured device like the Apple Watch.

When paired with a Xiaomi smartphone, the Mi Band can alert you to things like phone calls by using vibration. Wouldn't it be cool if it could alert you to notifications for certain iOS apps as well? Now it can, courtesy of a new jailbreak tweak called MiBand Utility from developer Pigi Galdi.

Are your Apple Watch resting calories all over the place?

Calories on Apple Watch

According to numerous posts over at Apple Support Communities, as well as a huge thread on MacRumors' forum, an unknown subset of Apple Watch owners are complaining about their resting calories in the Activity and Workout apps being all over the place.

As opposed to active calories burned when working out or performing basically any other activity other than breathing and lying in bed, your body needs resting calories to sustain itself and digest food when you're reclining with your muscles relaxed.

In other words, resting calories are burned when you're doing absolutely nothing aside from being alive.

Nike CEO talks Apple Watch and Apple partnership, says new experiences coming

Nike CEO and President Mark Parker sat down with CNBC's “Squawk on the Street” for a quick interview discussing his thoughts on wearable technology, the Apple Watch and his company's partnership with the iPhone maker, confirming that new services are coming down the pipeline.

Nike, which in April 2014 announced shuttering its wearable-hardware efforts, has been collaborating with Apple on fitness wearables for years, in one form or another.

For example, the Nike+ Running iOS application is available on the Apple Watch, too, and Parker now assures us that more from Apple and Nike is yet to come.

Tune Belt sports armband will fit an iPhone 6 with or without a case

While some of us will be using our new Apple Watch to listen to tunes and record our health data when we exercise, there are still a lot of people that need another means to keep their devices from flopping round in their pockets while they run.

The Tune Belt sports armband straps your iPhone 6 to your arm so you can have it nearby without having to carry a fanny pack around with you. The protective case is large enough to fit your iPhone in a thick case, as well.

Apple Watch can track workouts without an iPhone

The Apple Watch uses Wi-Fi and GPS from your iPhone, in addition to its own accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate and barometer sensors, to track your physical activity and movement. Now, there's been a lot of commotion regarding whether or not the wrist-worn gizmo can operate independently as a fitness tracker.

As first noted by MacObserver, American model and activist Christy Turlington-Burns, who blogs about the Apple Watch on Apple's website, said in her most recent blog entry that the device can learn about the user's stride enough over time to start accurately track workouts without an iPhone.

Fitbit Surge gains bike-tracking, multi device support announced

Monday, fitness tracker maker Fitbit took pre-emptive steps ahead of Apple Watch launch next month, giving its fitness bands new features.

The company announced a new outdoor bike-tracking feature on its $249 Surge fitness tracker. In addition, it rolled out multi-tracker support allowing users to easily switch between multiple Fitbit models throughout the day. Multi-band support allows Fitbit fans to register up to six fitness trackers in their Fitbit account, one of each model.

The system then automatically pings the user when she or he switches trackers.
