unc0ver V1.0.3 released with fixes for known issues on beta firmware versions

iOS hacker Pwn20wnd has been releasing a steady stream of updates for the unc0ver jailbreak tool since its conception, and it has come to our attention that another update for the tool was released Tuesday afternoon.

Citing a couple of Tweets shared by Pwn20wnd not too long ago, unc0ver V1.0.3 apparently resolves a few issues known to occur on supported beta firmware versions and further improves the RootFS Restore feature:

Apple is no longer signing iOS 12.0

On Monday, Apple stopped signing iOS 12.0, making it impossible to downgrade from iOS 12.0.1 to iOS 12.0. The move also compels those on iOS 12.0 to upgrade to iOS 12.0.1 when attempting a restore via iTunes.

The news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since the Cupertino-based tech company released iOS 12.0.1 to the public just over two weeks ago. Apple typically stops signing firmware approximately 14 days after releasing a new version to facilitate software upgrades among its user base.

Hacker demos untethered jailbreak running on iPhone 5 with iOS 10.2.1

The jailbreak community has been anything but quiet lately. We’ve seen things ranging from jailbreaking the new flagship iPhone XS Max, to updating untethered bootrom exploits for the legacy iPhone 3GS, to releasing a new jailbreak tool for firmware 1.1 on the original iPod touch; and now, something else of interest has surfaced.

In a curious video shared by YouTube user doras2 over the weekend, we discern what appears to be a fully-untethered jailbreak running on a 32-bit iPhone 5 handset with iOS 10.2.1 installed on it:

iPhone 1337 Team releases jailbreak tool for firmware 1.1 on the original iPod touch

It’s been more than 11 years since Apple first released the iPod touch with firmware 1.1, but a team of jailbreak developers calling themselves the “iPhone 1337 Team” on /r/jailbreak have allegedly produced a working jailbreak for it.

More than a decade later, most people are using at least iOS 10 or later, so the circumstances surrounding this news are about as niche as it gets. Nevertheless, we felt it was worth a mention, considering how much we respect jailbreaking here at iDB.

Ali Security demos untethered jailbreak on iOS 12

Apple released iOS 12 to the public Monday afternoon, and not even one full day after release, security firms have begun teasing untethered jailbreaks on the new mobile firmware.

The latest proof-of-concept video comes by way of Ali Security. Shown below, it demonstrates the process of the firm’s in-house jailbreak tool:

Tihmstar drops a developer jailbreak for Series 3 Apple Watches running watchOS 4.1

Whenever you hear the word “jailbreak,” Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV are some of the first devices that come to mind. But while the idea encompassing an Apple Watch jailbreak has been tossed around in the community for years, no large-scale Apple Watch jailbreak has ever made it to fruition.

While a developer-focused ‘prototype jailbreak’ dubbed overcl0ck was released at the start of 2018, it wasn’t quite what jailbreakers expected. But now, iOS hacker tihmstar has gone public with a new developer jailbreak for the Apple Watch dubbed jelbrekTime.

SemiRestore11 ‘un-jailbreaking’ tool for Electra1131 to be released “at any time”

Several years ago, Saurik released an un-jailbreaking tool known as Cydia Eraser so that jailbreakers could revert their pwned devices to a stock state any time they wished. But it hasn’t received any updates for some of the latest jailbreakable firmware versions, leaving much of the community in a state of confusion.

Fortunately, the Electra Team plans to change that. Team member Pwn20wnd announced on Monday the completion of an un-jailbreaking tool dubbed ‘SemiRestore11,’ which will roll back any jailbreak performed with Electra1131.
