S0rryMyBad shares PoC of the bug he used to jailbreak iOS 12 on pre-A12 devices

Just over two weeks ago, security researcher @S0rryMyBad announced the discovery of an exploit for iOS 12.1.2 and below for pre-A12 devices, adding that he would release information about it after Apple patched it in a software update. Fortunately, that time has finally come.

Several hours after Apple released iOS 12.1.3 to the public on Tuesday, @S0rryMyBad made good on his promise by Tweeting a proof of concept screenshot of the bug that he had teased earlier in the month:

Jailbreak Tweaks to check out

It’s been an interesting week for the jailbreak community, especially in terms of jailbreak tweak releases.

In this roundup, we’ll talk about all the jailbreak tweaks released in Cydia from Monday, January 14th to Sunday, January 20th. As usual, we’ll kick things off by discussing our favorites first and then outline the rest afterward.

In change of heart, Sileo Team says BigBoss repository can display one ad

Last Friday, the Sileo Team received backlash from prominent jailbreak developers and hackers because the Sileo package manager beta preview prevented the BigBoss repository from serving ads to its users. The situation gave rise to concerns that BigBoss could eventually cease to exist because the repository wouldn’t generate any revenue from its Sileo-centric user base.

Fortunately, the public spat involving several prominent members of the jailbreak community, including hackers and jailbreak tweak developers, appears to have paid off. A Tweet shared Monday evening by the Sileo Team demonstrates a slight change of heart and a departure from the original plan:

Anyone with a jailbroken device will want to customize it outside of Apple’s stock parameters, and that means installing jailbreak tweaks to modify its stock behavior.

In this roundup, we’ll talk about all the jailbreak tweaks released from Monday, January 7th to Sunday, January 13th. As usual, we’ll discuss our favorite releases first and then outline the rest afterward.

Several jailbreak hackers and developers now warn that Sileo could end the BigBoss repository

Friday morning, a port for the Sileo package manager became available for users of the unc0ver jailbreak, and we’ve since published a tutorial describing how to install the third-party package manager if you aren’t using Electra.

But this launch appears to have awoken the dormant beast in the jailbreak community. Many high-profile jailbreak hackers and developers are now speaking out against it, noting that the Sileo package manager hurts the BigBoss repository, which is the last of Cydia’s default repositories still standing (MacCiti and ModMyi closed their doors months ago).

You can now install the Sileo package manager on the unc0ver jailbreak

It has been just over two weeks since the Sileo team launched its first beta preview of its Sileo package manager for jailbroken iOS 11 devices, and there’ve been a few updates since then. Up to this point, Sileo was only officially supported on the Electra Team’s Electra jailbreak, and not the competing unc0ver jailbreak by hacker Pwn20wnd; but that all changes as of today.

On Friday, Reddit user Samg_is_a_Ninja published a new thread on the /r/jailbreak forum declaring the release of Sileo for the unc0ver jailbreak. As it would seem, unc0ver co-creator Sbingner has updated all required dependencies, making a full compatibility layer for the alternative jailbreak possible.

Saurik updates Cydia Substrate several times overnight with critical bug fixes

It was just two weeks ago that Saurik (Jay Freeman) released an official update for Cydia Substrate with full support for the unc0ver jailbreak on iOS 11, but as you might have noticed, there’ve been some issues surrounding the release.

Cydia Substrate has received several updates since the initial release, primarily to fix ‘freezing’ and ‘respring looping’ issues that some users experienced after updating, but older handsets like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 continued to exhibit unexplained instability.

Jailbreak Tweaks to check out

It’s been a big week for the jailbreak community. Not only was the Electra jailbreak updated for the first time since the Summer months, but the first public beta of the Sileo package manager was also released, which aims to compete directly with Cydia.

Regardless of whether you prefer Cydia or Sileo for your jailbroken handset, you’re probably wondering how you can make the best of your pwned iOS 11 device. Fortunately, this roundup will discuss all the jailbreak tweaks released from Monday, December 24th to Sunday, December 30th.

Second Sileo preview released for Electra jailbreak users

The Sileo team has launched its second preview of the brand-new Sileo package manager on Saturday, less than one week after deploying its first.

Citing a Tweet shared by the Sileo team Saturday morning, the second Sileo preview is available via the default Electra repository on the Electra jailbreak, just as the first was:

Saurik updates Cydia Substrate in response to ‘freezing’ and ‘respring loop’ reports

Saurik (Jay Freeman) launched an official iOS 11-centric update for Cydia Substrate less than two weeks ago, but it wasn’t long after installing it that some jailbreakers started reporting arbitrary freezes and problems with specific jailbreak tweaks. Flustered jailbreakers took to a support page on GitHub, where Saurik said that he successfully reproduced the bug and was looking into a fix.

If you were one of many affected by these bugs, then you’ll be excited to learn that Saurik pushed two consecutive updates to Cydia Substrate – the first (version 0.9.7010 came late Friday night, while the second (version 0.9.7011) came early Saturday morning. Naturally, the latter encompasses the latest fixes.

Electra jailbreak tool updated to resolve an issue on iOS 11.0 – 11.1.2

It was only yesterday that the Electra Team pushed a significant update to the Electra jailbreak with initial support for the Sileo package installer and a bevy of bug fixes and performance improvements, but the team is still fine-tuning the iOS 11-centric jailbreak tool as we speak.

Citing a Tweet shared by the Electra Team Wednesday evening, one out of the two available Electra jailbreak tools was updated once again, this time to version 1.1.0-2, with a fix for a jailbreaking issue on iOS 11.0-11.1.2:
