A Very Nice iPhone Lockscreen

You might remember my post about TypoPhone 4 last month, which I think is a very nice iPhone lockscreen. Turns out a developer has decided to improve it by adding some colors and tweaking the layout a little bit. This new lockscreen theme is called Slanted Lock and is available in Cydia under the ModMyI repo.

The result is very nice and quite colorful. It displays the weather of your selected location, and the background changes with the weather. Very neat!

Gridlock Lets You Arrange Your iPhone Apps Icons Any Way You Want

Ever feel frustrated that you can't arrange your iPhone apps icons the way you want on your springboard? Then relax because we've got the solution for you. It's called Gridlock.

Gridlock is a new jailbreak application by developers Chpwn and P0sixNinja that lets you rearrange your icons any way you want them to be, simply by dragging and dropping them.

This Might Be the Coolest iPhone Lockscreen Ever

I found this awesome lockscreen on Cydia yesterday, with a little help from AtomicMufin on Twitter. It's called TypoPhone 4 and it's basically a lockscreen theme that shows the time and date in large bold letters. It also contains this cool unlock slider. You can download it from Cydia and activate it with Winterboard.

To have it look exactly like the image above, you'll also need to download Lockscreen Clock Hide from Cydia, which like the name suggests, hides the clock on your iPhone.

I think that's an awesome mod and it is without a doubt the coolest iPhone lockscreen I've seen so far. Now this thing just needs a little bit of colors to make it perfect.

What do you guys think? You like it?

How to Create Free Ringtones for Your iPhone

You either love custom ringtones or you invariably loathe them. You can put me down in the latter category. Nevertheless there are many who love hearing a portion of their favorite jam when someone calls, or assigning certain songs that fit the personality of a specific contact in their address book. If you fit into the group that loves custom alerts, you're in luck.

A Unique Hand Engraved iPhone

It only took 8 hours for this guy to hand engrave the bottom of his iPhone bezel.

You can only imagine how long it would take to do it all.

Engraving my iPhone is something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time now, the plain metal border was so tempting. I’ve searched the net, but haven’t yet found any hand engraved iPhones. There are a lot of laser engraved ones and cases, but to me laser engraving is not really a true engraving. So someone must start with the handmade.

For starters I engraved the bottom part of it, so when I did screw up, it wouldn’t be too noticeable. The metal seems to be some kind of stainless steel and a very tough one too. I broke many-many graver tips during the process and at least 1/4th of the time was spent on re-sharpening the gravers.

Spice Up Your iPhone Background Image With Video Wallpapers

There is a new mod in town. Its name is vWallpaper and it's an awesome jailbreak app that will bring video wallpaper to your iPhone homescreen. Redmond Pie has a video of it in action and I have to admit it's pretty impressive.

vWallpaper comes pre-loaded with a few video wallpapers but you can also download some new ones from within the application. Really neat!

The Wallpaper I’m Using on My iPhone These Days

A few of you have asked me what wallpaper I use on my iPhone so I figured I'd post it here for you to download. I found it online a few weeks ago but I can't remember exactly where. If you know where it's from, please post the link so I can credit the designer of this wallpaper.

Update: Thanks Stan for the update. This wallpaper is from Effektive Design. They have more colors there.

The Art Of iPhone Customization

Customization is probably one of the biggest reasons people jailbreak their iDevices, I know personally I love the ability to make my iPhone mine. There are endless possibilities for customizing you device starting from the smallest things such as battery themes to full blown all out UI custom themes. There is a plethora of themes to choose from on Cydia and all of them are beautiful in there own right. Some of them are free and some you have to pay for. In my experience the paid themes are usually worth the money because they are 100% original and are normally a work of art.

I have recently got into building themes which started of as just graphical but I soon realized that it went a lot deeper. I started learning a little HTML and .css (style sheets that simplify HTML) and springboard strings, just to name a few non graphical modifications that can be made. I soon had created my own complete theme, Carbon OS which has a lot of extras (and is available in Cydia).

I thought I would share some easy and effective methods for learning to build these themes in case you guys want to get into doing it too. I have compiled a small list of things you will need to do so and some pointers to help you get started. First things first though lets make sure we have a jailbroken device with Winterboard installed and have the ability to SSH into your device. If you need help with any of this check out our forums or our jailbreak section on this blog. Now on to what you need.

Apple to Offer Engraving Option for Holidays iPad Orders

Just like it does for iPods, Apple is now rumored to offer a free engraving option on all iPads purchased during the holidays season, a source told tech blog Erictic:

“From what I understand, Apple’s going to be offering customers the option to get their iPads engraved just before the Holidays roll around,” noted the source in an email to me, which oddly enough began on the topic of Apple’s recent move to distribute free bumpers and cases for iPhone 4 smartphone customers.  Our source cites that current high demand for the iPad has prevented Apple from offering tablet engraving, fearing slow-downs in production.

Rumor or not, the iPad will sure be a hit this holiday season. That is if Apple can meet the demand of course...

Pretty Up Your iPhone Folders With Emoji and Symbols

A few weeks ago we talked about how to add symbols on your iPhone. We also saw that it is now possible to add emoji icons to the keyboard. But do you know you can use these characters and emoji to name your iPhone folders?

To do so, simply edit the folders' name like you normally do and copy the character of your choice, or set your keyboard to Emoji to add funny little icons.

Make Your iPhone Go Round With WindowPlaner

Wanna give a rounded look to your iPhone? There's a jailbreak app for that! It's called WindowPlaner and it will help you make your iPhone look a little bit more like the Palm Pre.

As you can see on this image, WindowPlaner simply makes the edges of your iPhone screen a little smoother by rounding them out.

It's definitely not a break-through app, but it's always nice to have new tweak for our favorite device, isn't it?

Have you tried it yet? Share your thoughts in the comments.
