Sileo Team releases Sileo 1.0 to the public for Chimera and Electra jailbreaks

Many A12(X) device owners who’ve held off on iOS 12.0-12.1.2 are hopping with joy right about now after the release of the Electra Team’s Chimera jailbreak, but one small detail that can be easily overlooked amid this significant news is that the Sileo Team has officially released Sileo 1.0 to the general public.

As you might come to expect from the new version number, Sileo 1.0 is no longer considered a beta, but rather an official release build. The Sileo Team eagerly announced the new version Monday night via Twitter, shortly after the Chimera jailbreak was released:

How to jailbreak iOS 12.0-12.5.7 with Chimera

In addition to the unc0ver jailbreak by Pwn20wnd, iOS 12 users have the option to use the Chimera jailbreak by the CoolStar-led Electra Team.

It’s worth noting that the Chimera jailbreak does not support Cydia or Cydia Substrate, and that it instead uses Sileo and libhooker as a part of its Procursus bootstrap for package management and tweak injection. That aside, it is the first public jailbreak tool to officially support A12(X) devices.

Electra Team releases Chimera jailbreak for iOS 12.0-12.1.2 with support for A12(X) and Sileo

The Electra Team has spent the past few weeks hyping up its Electra12 jailbreak for iOS 12.0-12.1.2, and as it would seem, the wait is finally over as of Monday night.

Say hello to Chimera, an entirely new jailbreak tool developed and released by the CoolStar-led Electra Team with native support for all iOS 12.0-12.1.2 devices, including the pesky A12(X) variety.

Pwn20wnd defends Cydia as Sileo Team teases the upcoming release of Sileo 1.0

Hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd shared some reassuring comments with the jailbreak community via Twitter Thursday afternoon, elucidating that Cydia as a package manager wasn’t dead and that third-party developers besides Saurik (such as team unc0ver’s Sam Bingner) can still maintain it.

If you didn’t already know, the Cydia package manager is open source, which means that anyone can view its source code and update the software so long as they adhere to the license:

Electra Team and Pwn20wnd issue status updates regarding the A12(X) jailbreak

Despite the unforeseen bombshell that Saurik recently dropped on the jailbreak community regarding the much-anticipated Cydia Substrate update for A12(X) devices, this hasn’t stopped talented hackers such as those from the Electra and unc0ver jailbreak teams from devising workarounds to ensure that the community gets its cake and eats it too.

The unc0ver jailbreak is perhaps the most impacted jailbreak from the ordeal, as Electra uses Substitute instead of Cydia Substrate. And for that reason, we consider the following words from hacker and unc0ver lead developer Pwn20wnd be to be somewhat significant given the times we’re in:

If you thought Sileo was fast on an iPhone 6s, then watch the latest demo on an iPhone X

Less than 24 hours ago, the Sileo Team teased the blazing speed of its Sileo app, which aims to compete with Cydia as the de facto package manager on handsets pwned by way of Electra. The device used in the recent demo video was an iPhone 6s, but with many jailbreakers waiting to pwn their latest and greatest handsets, did the video do Sileo any justice?

If you were wondering how fast Sileo would be on a more modern handset, then you’re in luck. The Sileo Team has Tweeted yet another demonstration of Sileo’s speed just this evening, this time with the app running on an iPhone X instead of an iPhone 6s.

Pwn20wnd’s unc0ver jailbreak tool has enjoyed a monopoly over iOS 12.0-12.1.2 for months, albeit with limited handset support due to the lack of Cydia Substrate support for A12(X) devices. On the other hand, that could all change in the very near future.

The Sileo Team on Thursday Tweeted a teaser of what appears to be the Sileo app running on the upcoming Electra12 jailbreak, citing it to be a speed demonstration of the Cydia alternative for package management on jailbroken handsets.

Sileo will soon stop ‘featuring’ packages from the BigBoss repository

In an unfortunate turn of events Friday morning, the Sileo Team announced via Twitter that it would no longer accept applications from jailbreak tweak developers to feature packages on the front page that are being hosted on the official BigBoss repository.

Instead, the Sileo Team alluded that only packages being mirrored by the Essentialis Repository and the those hosted by the third-party Chariz and Dynastic Repo repositories would be eligible for being featured on Sileo’s front page. Consequently, the Sileo Team adds that developers should host in those repositories instead of BigBoss.

CoolStar teases Electra for iOS 12 in screenshot shared via Twitter

The jailbreak community has been teeming with electrifying announcements these past few weeks, and it now seems that the Electra Team is getting ready to join in on the fun.

Just this morning, Electra Team lead developer CoolStar teased a screenshot of what appears to be a jailbroken iPhone 6s (iPhone 8,1) running iOS 12.1.1. Both the Electra and Sileo app icons are discernable on the handset’s Home screen:
