New iPhone concept looks surprisingly realistic

There's been no shortage of iPhone mockups this year. Graphic designers are constantly releasing renderings of what they think Apple's next smartphone should look like. Heck, we've even seen a fair amount of video concepts.

But while a number of these mockups tend to border on fantasy, this new design focuses on realism. iTopnews.de's creative director Toby Kick brings his vision for the new iPhone to life using only the most feasible of features...

Mockups show how apps would benefit from a 4-inch iPhone

The 4-inch iPhone. According to just about every major news publication — The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, etc. — it's coming. But where does that leave the 600,000+ apps designed for a 3.5" screen and their developers?

Well the most popular theory for how Apple will go about making a 4-inch iPhone is to give it a resolution of 640x1158, and an aspect ratio of 9:5. So Overdrive Design decided to show us what that would do to current apps...

How text editing on the iPad should be

If you've ever spent any kind of time editing text on the iPad, you know that there has to be a better solution. Placing your cursor in a certain spot in a sentence or paragraph can be difficult. And between letters? Forget about it.

Luckily, YouTube user danielchasehooper has come up with the perfect way to fix this. In his new video entitled "iPad Keyboard Prototype," he demonstrates how Apple could make cursor placement much more precise...

Check out this stunning holographic iPhone concept

Us folks at iDownloadBlog love conceptual gadget artwork as much as you do, especially gorgeous, believable renditions like a Liquidmetal-based iPhone 5. But every once in a while an out-of-this-world artwork surfaces that gives us all a pause. Take this exceptional depiction of a candy colored 3D town coming to life from the screen of an iPhone.

It's amazing and trust me when I say it shouldn't be missed. This is what a holographic iPhone might be like, though that's not to say it's going to happen anytime soon. But hey, with a little help from creative artists we can easily imagine what the future might hold some day...

This Liquidmetal iPhone 5 concept looks quite believable

As rumors about Apple switching to the all-new metallic glass material for a next-generation iPhone continue to persist, one designer has weighed in with own rendition of what the device might look like, both from the inside and the outside - and it's quite noteworthy.

As you know, Apple obtained a worldwide exclusive license to use Liquidmetal alloy in consumer electronics products. With previous rumors alleging a complete redesign, a Liquidmetal-based iPhone is certainly a plausible proposition...

Meet the iPhone Plus

Those of you who have been reading iDB for a while know we love a good iPhone concept. So when we came across these beautiful renderings of the iPhone Plus from the folks over at ADR Studio, we knew we had to post them.

If the name ADR Studio sounds familiar, it's because it's the same design firm behind other concepts we've featured on our site, including the iPhone SJ. And as usual, they didn't disappoint. Meet the iPhone Plus...

Thieves beware: this iPhone will self-destruct in 5 seconds

In the world of iPhone rumors, things tend to get a tad ridiculous at times. In fact, if we were to believe some of the reports we've heard, Apple's next smartphone will have a 5-inch screen and be machined from liquid metal.

Well the folks over at AatmaStudio, known for their powerful Apple product concepts, have taken ridiculous to the next level. Check out their vision for the next iPhone, and its cool self-destructing remote-wipe feature...

New concept video shows multiple iPad apps running on screen at once

This isn't exactly what I envisioned when I created a concept for MultiLayer iPad app functionality a few weeks ago, but it's certainly a start.

After speaking at length with iOS developer Kyle Howells — the brains behind the awesome jailbreak tweak CardSwitcher — he graciously agreed to compile a specialized version of said tweak, which allows users to interface with multiple iPad apps on the same screen.

This means that it's entirely feasible to play games while watching your Twitter timeline, or check your stock prices while browsing the web via Safari — all from the same iPad.

Running multiple apps on-screen simultaneously has been a dream of many iPad owners. We've seen similar concepts from Kyle in the past, so I'm confident that if anyone could pull this off, it would be him. Check inside for a demonstration video of the concept tweak in action...

The iPad isn’t a true desktop alternative for me until it has this feature

Make no mistake about it, the iPad is a wonderful desktop alternative for some. I know plenty of people who use it as their main computing device, which makes it live up to Apple's Post-PC billing.

But there's still one gripe in my mind that is holding the iPad back from true greatness. It's a missing feature that's inherently obvious when you're blogging, or doing anything else that calls for true multitasking.

The iPad needs a way to view two or more apps simultaneously.

The case for a four-inch iPhone with 16:9 display

There's no shortage of iPhone mockups these days, a tell-tale indication of the launch date drawing near (we're looking towards a Fall launch). We already told you about one possible iPhone mockup and shared an interesting theory regarding the argument for a four-inch iPhone.

The problem is, the vast majority of artists' renditions depict an iPhone with a blown up display that, however, features the same 3:2 aspect ratio as all iPhone and iPod touch models back to 2007.

So, how about a four-incher with a 16:9 aspect ratio display?

How Apple can solve the multiple iMessage alert conundrum

If you've taken advantage of iOS 5's iCloud functionality, you understand how much potential is on tap. iCloud coerces all all of your iOS devices to stay in sync; at least that's the theory.

While the potential is certainly there, iCloud still has a way to go before all of its issues are ironed out; though I definitely commend Apple for being gung-ho about its rollout.

One of the main issues that I've personally experienced — and no doubt countless others share similar sentiments — is with iMessage. More specifically, since iCloud can sync every iOS 5 device you own, all of your devices alert you when you receive a new iMessage.

Now I know; why not just disable alerts altogether for all but one device? Well, there's a number of reasons why I would not want to do that. The main reason being is that you shouldn't have to select one feature over another. iCloud is meant for convenience, and taking such a step would certainly be a leap backwards.

Instead, let's examine a more proactive approach — utilizing the iPhone's built in technology to solve the issue. That's exactly what we tried to do. Introducing our solution to the multiple iMessage alert conundrum — Alert Priority.

What an iPad with a 7.85-inch display would look like

Rumors of Apple building a smaller iPad with a 7.85-inch display have been around for several months. Pundits believe that the Cupertino company would do well to release a smaller version of its popular slate to appeal to the budget tablet crowd.

Well known Apple-insider John Gruber fanned the flames last week when he said that he was aware of such a product being tested in Apple's labs. And today, the folks over at Ciccaresedesign poured even more gas on the fire with this iPad mini mockup...
