Jeff Williams: the car is the ultimate mobile device

In addition to Apple Watch talk, Jeff Williams made some other interesting comments at the Code Conference on Wednesday. During his interview with Recode, Apple's SVP of Operations seemingly confirmed the company's rumored interest in cars.

"The car is the ultimate mobile device," Williams nonchalantly noted, in response to a question regarding what the Cupertino firm will do with its staggering cash hoard beyond returning money to investors. "We are exploring a lot of different markets."

Automatic debuts new vehicle adapter and developer SDK

Automatic, the makers of the adapter that allows cars to talk to smartphones, debuted new hardware and third-party app support on Tuesday. The new hardware comes in the form of a second-gen Automatic adapter that supports real-time data, and third-party app support in the form of a new SDK.

More specifically, the new adapter supports dual Bluetooth data streams: one to the Automatic mobile app and one to a third-party app. This allows both apps to receive data from the adapter simultaneously over an encrypted Bluetooth connection. It also features built-in GPS, and MFi certification.

iOttie Easy Touch 2 securely mounts your iPhone 6 to your dashboard

I’ve mentioned before that some states have a ban on dashboard or windshield mounts. Not everyone has to follow that rule, however. Frankly, it is the most convenient way to display your device so it is accessible while driving.

The iOttie Easy Touch 2 is a dashboard/windshield mount that sticks to your car like superglue, but is removable, so you can take down whenever you feel like it.

The iKross Cupholder Mount can fit your iPhone or iPad

If air vent iPhone 6 mounts are not your thing, don’t worry. There are other ways to display your device in your car. For example, a cup holder mount keeps your smartphone off of your windshield and doesn’t cover up your vent, causing worrisome heating or cooling fears.

The iKross Cup Holder Mount works with smartphones and tablets. So, you can use it to help direct you to a location or let the kiddies use it to watch movies in the back seat.

Koomus Air Vent Car Mount provides a safe view of your iPhone when driving

In some states, it is illegal to mount anything to your dashboard or windshield. However, it is much less safer to hold you iPhone in your hand while driving when trying to follow directions. One alternative is the air vent mount.

Koomus makes an air vent mount that stretches from 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches, so you can secure your iPhone 6 to your car without it blocking any view through your windshield.

Supercar wallpapers for iPhone

Each week we throw out a set of images in the Wallpapers of the Week section. With a long weekly run of more than 18 months, it continues to be a popular post. However, despite the running record, a single yet popular genre continues to be ignored.

This week, we right our wrong as we feature hand-selected Supercar wallpapers for iPhone. If this proves to be another top performer, along with galaxy images and geometric shapes, expect to see more in the future. Show your approval by sharing via Twitter or Facebook with the buttons at the top or bottom of the post.

Investors suggest Apple buy Tesla at annual shareholder meeting

Would Apple consider acquiring electric car-maker Tesla? That was the question posed to Tim Cook by two Apple investors during the company's annual shareholder meeting today. And as you'd imagine, the chief executive gracefully deflected the question.

Recode attended the meeting, and noted Cook responded to the query by talking about CarPlay and its 40+ model rollout this year. "Was that a good way to avoid the question?" When pressed he joked, "let me think if there’s another way to give a non-answer."

Apple reportedly planning to produce electric car by 2020

Bloomberg reports that Apple is working to start producing its electric car by 2020, to take on Tesla and other key players in the automotive industry. The report on Thursday follows word from the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Bloomberg earlier this week that Apple is planning an autonomous vehicle.

Former GM CEO: Apple shouldn’t make a car

Following rumors Apple plans to make its own car to compete with Tesla, former General Motors CEO Dan Akerson is weighing in on the matter. In an interview with Automotive News, Akerson said he doesn't think Apple has what it takes to make a car, mainly because of the manufacturing process.

Here is what an Apple Car could be like

The chatter about Apple Car went from 0 to 60 faster than Tesla's Model S P85D, and it is now pretty clear that there is more to it than just rumors. If the sightings of mysterious vans, and the outing of Project Titan, and its team of 1,000 employees didn't convince you, maybe the high-profile hires will give you something to think about.

Among the hires Apple recently made, one name keeps coming back: Johann Jungwirth, former President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development. Jungwirth worked on some incredible projects, among them is the Mercedes-Benz F 015, a concept car that might just give us a hint of what Apple could be looking into.

Project Titan: Apple’s secret electric car

Apple has several hundred employees secretly working on creating an electric vehicle, reported the Wall Street Journal on Friday, citing people familiar with the company's plans. Code-named Titan, the project currently sports the design of a minivan.

According to the Journal, Apple CEO Tim Cook approved the project about a year ago, putting product design Vice President Steve Zadesky in charge. A former Ford engineer, Zadesky has been a long time Apple employee who helped create the iPod and later the iPhone.

Zadesky is said to have created a team strong of 1,000 people, which tends to prove that Apple is serious about the project, rather than considering this electric car a hobby.
