iPad Hits 1% of Global Web Browser Share, iPhone Equally Dominant

Apple's influence on internet usage worldwide continues to grow, with reports that the company's iPad now accounts for 1% of the planet's web browsing usage.

The figure is even more impressive when narrowed down to just browsing inside the United States, with fully 2.1% being the magic number.

According to the latest NetMarketShare report, mobile browsing in general has now topped 5%, or 8.2% in the United States...

Nielsen: iPhone Sales Increasing in US, Blackberry on the Decline

In the latest research report from Nielsen, data from May suggests that Apple's iPhone iOS and Android OS are the only two mobile operating systems that are actually increasing in U.S. market share. Nielsen makes the point that smartphones are now the "majority of new cellphone purchases," and the iPhone is continuing to see increased adoption in the United States.

Following a May survey of U.S. mobile customers, it has been determined that Android and the iOS platform gained a percentage of smartphone market share, while other competitors like Blackberry actually fell in market share.

40% of European Smartphone Buyers Hope an iPhone is in Their Future

A new study of European smartphone buyers by Yankee Group is due to be released next month, with the highlight being a claim that fully 40% of European smartphone purchasers intend their next handset to be an Apple iPhone.

After that massive 40% potential iPhone sales, Android comes in a distant second with 19%, followed by 17% aiming for a BlackBerry.

Former phone giant Nokia lags behind with a paltry 15%. The Finnish outfit will no doubt be hoping their imminent switch to Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 will help arrest their alarming decline over the last few years...

iPhone Now More Popular Than BlackBerry in US

Apple's iPhone has now overtaken BlackBerry devices to become the second most popular smartphone in the U.S. in terms of active users. While the iPhone has been outselling the BlackBerry family for some time now, it previously sat behind RIM's devices in both platform and hardware.

Data recorded by comScore's MobiLens service has revealed that between the three-month period beginning February and ending April 2011, 74.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones, 26% of which were Apple's iPhone...

US Government Drops BlackBerry to Adopt iOS Devices

United States federal agencies are ditching BlackBerry devices in favor of those powered by iOS, according to a new feature in the Washington Post. Dubbed 'federal government 2.0', the change will see the U.S. government upgraded and the introduction of consumer technologies like the iPhone, iPad, and Google's Gmail service.

The demand for these technologies has not only come from agency directors and senior officials – who want to use iPads, Android phones and web-based email at the office like they do at home – but also from frontline workers who believe consumer technologies can set them free of the office for mobile working arrangements...

Clorox Employees Prefer the iPhone By a Wide Margin

If this isn't telling about the state of the smart phone industry, I don't know what is. It's particularly bad news for the folks at RIM -- the company behind the BlackBerry brand.

Sensing that his employees were unsatisfied with their company issued BlackBerry smartphones, Clorox CIO Ralph Loura decided to give his employees a choice.

Boy Genius Report reached out to RIM earlier today for an official statement on the BlackBerry Messenger release date rumors swirling around the web, and what they found doesn't surprise us.

The BlackBerry Messenger app is still a go, just not a go for April 26th like the rumors suggested.

In fact, the whole rumor than RIM CEO Jim Balsillie attended conference this week in Canada is in itself false...

BlackBerry Messenger Coming in Less Than a Month?

Earlier this month it was revealed that the ridiculously popular (among BlackBerry users of course) BlackBerry Messenger would be making its way to iOS.

After the initial announcement, we haven't heard much of a peep from the folks at RIM about the app's progress, its release date, or any fears that their app might be outright rejected by the Apple.

Yesterday, a poster on the MacRumors forums claimed that the release date for BBM will be April 26th, less than a month away.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. That's evidently what Research In Motion is thinking after it was revealed that their popular BlackBerry Messenger app would be making its way to both Android and iOS devices.

BlackBerry Messenger already has a long list of devoted fans that absolutely swear by its functionality, and this move will likely increase the amount of faithful users in camp BlackBerry.

The iPhone is Leading the American Smartphone Race

Apple and Android always duke it out in smartphone statistics. The latest Nielsen market share data says no differently.

From a poll conducted in November of 2010, U.S. smartphone market share is dominated by iOS at 28.6%. iOS is followed by Blackberry at 26.1%, and Android at 25.8%. These numbers are U.S. only, but it is interesting to see how iOS and Android are battling for smartphone dominance.

Depending on how you look at things, the iPhone retains the lead in smartphone market share. However, Android is having greater growth with new smartphone adopters. This means that more people are buying an Android for their next smartphone, and not the iPhone...

Microsoft Holds Funeral Parade for iPhone and Blackberry

Oh no they didn't dare. Tell me this is just a bad joke. This is a bad joke, right? No. Apprently not. Microsoft marketing department has so much money and so little creativity that they put up a funeral parade for Blackberry and iPhone in celebration of the launch of Windows Phone 7.

This is just the most pathetic attempt at generating buzz for a product. I seriously hope that someone got canned at MSFT for approving this desperate parade.

It can't be worse than that. Oh wait, yes it can! They also engaged in a Thriller dance.
