Releasing today: $20 Minecraft for Apple TV & big “Ender” update for iOS version

Highlighted at the “Hello again” Mac event in October, Minecraft for Apple TV is currently rolling out on the tvOS App Store. Developer Mojang also announced that Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS just received a big “Ender” update. Bringing the app's version number to 1.0, the “Ender” update enables a bunch of cool features and perks.

Some of them include the ultimate boss battle, Ender Dragon, new locations like The End, additional items such as the Dragon’s Breath potion and this year's Festive Mash-Up Pack with all kinds of holiday themed looks.

Apple TV’s gorgeous Aerial screen saver gains 21 new videos, watch them all right here

tvOS packs in Apple's attractive new Aerial screen saver which plays eye-candy high-definition drone footage of various landmarks and places from around the globe in gorgeous slow motion. Apple has now added 21 new videos to the Aerial screen saver, as first discovered by our own Jim Gresham.

The latest arrivals include birds-eye imagery from Dubai, Greenland, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and United Arab Emirates. Plus, there are now three new videos of Chinese landmarks for a total of 21 new drone clips.

Apple seeds first beta of iOS 10.2.1, macOS Sierra 10.12.3 and tvOS 10.1.1 to developers

Following yesterday's public releases of iOS 10.2, macOS Sierra 10.12.2, watchOS 3.1.1 and tvOS 10.1, Apple on Thursday seeded to its registered developers first betas of what would become minor software updates in the form of iOS 10.2.1 beta 1 (build 14D10), macOS Sierra 10.12.3 beta 1 (build 16D12b) and tvOS 10.1.1 beta 1 (build 14U707). These betas are available via Apple's portal for developers and can be installed over the air on devices with an appropriate configuration profile installed.

Apple TV universal search expands to Apple Music and nine other apps

Following last week's additions of AMC and The Hallmark Channel to the list of apps which work with tvOS's universal search, as many as ten additional apps have now gained support for this feature, including Apple Music. Apple's list of universal search providers was updated at pos time to reflect this. With universal search, 4th generation Apple TV owners can use their voice to search movies and TV shows across all supported apps.

Amazon’s shopping app is now available for Apple TV with purchasing support for Prime members

Online retail giant Amazon today rolled out a tvOS version of its existing shopping app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple Watch.

With Amazon App for Apple TV, you can browse Amazon's entire product catalog on a big screen TV from the comfort of your couch using Siri Remote and your fourth-generation Apple TV.

The app lets you get product details and watch videos for products that are available on Amazon.com and from other merchants. And if you're a Prime member ($99 per year), you'll even be able to make purchases on your Apple TV.

tvOS 10.1 with new TV app and Single Sign-On launches on fourth-generation Apple TV

Alongside releasing the feature-packed iOS 10.2 software update for iPhone and iPad and watchOS 3.1.1 for Apple Watch owners, Apple also this morning launched tvOS 10.1, the first major update to the operating system powering the fourth-generation Apple TV following tvOS 10.0's debut in September.

tvOS 10.1 (build number 14U593) is not as feature-packed as iOS 10.2. It contains bug fixes, performance improvements, Apple's new channel-guide app and support for the new Single Sign-On feature, among other items.

21 pay TV apps and 10 providers now support Apple’s new Single Sign-On feature

Single Sign-On, Apple's new feature that permits compatible video-streaming apps to unlock additional content by using your saved cable credentials, became officially available yesterday. Just a day after launch, apps from ABC and Disney have now gained support for Single Sign-On on the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, as well as Freeform, FXNOW and a few other apps, The Verge reported Thursday.

AMC and The Hallmark Channel added to Apple TV universal search

As first reported by MacRumors, Apple on Tuesday added AMC and The Hallmark Channel to its growing list of video apps supporting tvOS's universal search function, which lets owners of the fourth-generation Apple TV in the U.S. use Siri voice search to find TV shows and movies across participating channels.

Other video apps have gained support for tvOS's universal search feature this fall, including Australian streaming service Stan, popular Spanish network Telemundo Now, The CW, Viacom-owned Comedy Central, and music networks MTV and VH1.

Tiny Wings, an addictive iPhone game with simple gameplay and subtle charm, is now available on the fourth-generation Apple TV more than five years since its App Store debut in February 2011. Developer Andreas Illiger released the Apple TV game as a new $2.99 app, called Tiny Wings TV.

Like its iOS counterpart, Tiny Wings TV has you playing as a cute little bird with aerial navigation issues. You must escape the darkness of night, but the hills in your way hinder your speed so you must have good reflexes and a good sense of timing.
