App Switcher

‘Smudge’ adds a Gaussian blur to the area above the app switcher

Some jailbreak tweaks offer awesome new functionality, and some mainly exist for pure aesthetic reasons. Smudge is a jailbreak tweak that falls firmly into the latter category. Smudge allows you to add a simple Gaussian blur to the area above your app switcher when it's invoked. Take a look at our video walkthrough inside for more details on how it works.

Auxo for iPad review

I've been covering jailbreak tweaks for a long time, and I've seen quite a few big releases in my time doing so. Tweaks like Octopus Keyboard, IntelliScreen X, Dashboard X, and most recently, Velox, come to mind.

But perhaps no tweak has been as anticipated this year as Auxo for iPad has. It is, of course, the big brother to the original Auxo tweak for the iPhone, which has proved to be extremely popular, and just as successful.

Needless to say, Auxo for iPad has some fairly big shoes to fill, and even bigger expectations. We all know how Auxo looks and feels on the small screen, but the question is this: can such a tweak be successfully translated to the iPad's significantly larger screen? More importantly, will it provide users with a better overall experience when using their devices? Check out our full review inside, as I break down the ins and outs of this long anticipated jailbreak release.

Preview: Auxo for iPad

In just two days, one of the most anticipated jailbreak tweaks to ever hit the iPad will touch down. Obviously I'm referring to Auxo for iPad, the jailbreak tweak that will finally reinvigorate the iOS app switcher on the larger screen.

Auxo for iPad has taken a long time to arrive, because it has been meticulously built and designed. Instead of simply porting a rough version of the tweak to the iPad, the team behind the popular iPhone release decided to take their time and get it right. Did they accomplish their goal? You'll have to wait until our review on Thursday for the answer to that. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview teaser video of Auxo running on the iPad.

Kill apps in a single swipe with Slide2Kill

Like Sebastien, I uninstalled the popular jailbreak tweak Auxo earlier this year. Though beautifully designed, the app switcher replacement felt a little too bloated for me, and I was convinced that it made my iPhone slower.

I do miss a few of Auxo's features though, like its revamped iPod controls and the ability to swipe down on an app icon to close it out of the switcher. But luckily, a new tweak just came out that takes care of the latter for me...

FlatIcons: a beautiful two dimensional theme for iOS

From a pure looks standpoint, FlatIcons is one of the better looking themes for iOS. It's not the deepest theme out there as far as the UI area it covers on iOS, but it's definitely up there with some of the best from a purely visual standpoint.

Along with the app icons themselves, FlatIcons includes themes for the stock Weather app, Auxo toggles, and Notification Center. As a bonus to purchasers of the theme, the creator of FlatIcons added an additional alternate theme to the package as well. Have a look inside for our hands-on video walkthrough.

Auxo coming to iPad next month

Folks, it's almost here. Yes, Auxo is coming to the iPad next month. As you know, Auxo is one of my own personal favorite jailbreak tweaks, and for good reason. It completely re-imagines the iOS app switcher, giving users the ability to see full screen previews of running apps.

While I always thought Auxo looked great on the iPhone 5's larger screen, I'd imagine it will look even better on the iPad. The screenshot above pretty much says as much.

Upcoming Auxo update adds new toggles, bug fixes, and more

A nice little surprise landed in my inbox today: a preview copy of Auxo 1.4. It's a release that brings new toggles, options, and bug fixes to one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks. To begin, let me just tell you that Auxo 1.4 isn't a groundbreaking new release, but you will be happy to find a refined experience when compared to earlier iterations of the tweak.

Take a look inside as I go hands on with Auxo 1.4, covering some of the biggest new features that you can expect to see when the update is officially released on Cydia.

Sentry’s new App Switching concept makes it easier to move between apps

We're always in search of ways that iOS can be improved, which is why you'll see a number of iOS concepts and ideas on iDB that are aimed at making Apple's mobile operating system better. Take this recent one on multitasking, for example. It's beautiful.

But not all concepts attempt to make iOS better-looking—some try to make it more functional. And that's the idea behind today's concept. It takes the current app switcher, and makes it more efficient by allowing faster access to more of your suspended apps...

‘PodSwitcher’ available on Cydia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWba_D_seEI

PodSwitcher is a jailbreak tweak available on Cydia's BigBoss repo for $1.49. The purpose of the tweak is to allow you to interface with the stock Music app via the iPhone's app switcher. PodSwitcher adds advanced controls that you won't find with the stock Music controls found in the app switcher. Along with the advanced controls, you can peruse your entire music library using various built-in animations like Cover Flow, Linear, Rotary, and more. If you've given PodSwitcher a try, share your experience with the tweak in our comments.

How to grab Auxo nightly beta builds

A3tweaks, the team behind Auxo, has put together a beta repo which will host nightly builds of its popular tweak for paying customers. That means that if you purchased Auxo, you can simply add this beta repo to your Cydia sources, and enjoy the latest features before the general public.

In fact, there's already a new beta build available for download right now. Take a look past the break to learn how you can easily access the bleeding edge upgrades.

6 ways to get more out of Auxo

It's no secret that the Auxo jailbreak tweak is one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks of all time. It's a tweak that adds a full snapshot preview of your running apps in the app switcher. It also includes handy toggles and redesigned music controls.

Now the question stands to be asked: how do you go about getting the most out of Auxo? Inside I'll share some handy tips that show you how to become an Auxo pro.
