Latest AltStore update resolves crash impacting apps installed after January 28th

It was only a couple of days ago that AltStore received an update in the form of a public beta to resolve a an issue where apps installed after January 28th would crash after the user tried launching them. This was a temporary (yet agonizing) issue for jailbreakers, and for that reason, it may come as no surprise that an official AltStore update would be imminent.

Tuesday afternoon, that very update materialized as AltStore and AltServer version 1.4.3 officially became available to the general public Worthy of note, this update is different from the public beta that launched two days ago, as it's an official public release as opposed to just a public beta build.

It may come as no surprise that when apps side loaded with the AltStore application after January 28th exhibited a baffling crash on launch, jailbreakers began to notice. After all, many jailbreakers rely on the platform to install their jailbreak apps, including but not limited to Chimera, Odyssey, and unc0ver.

The official AltStore Twitter account publicly acknowledged the issue a day later on January 29th, claiming that the app crashing was due to “server-side changes” and that a fix would be imminent. While many jailbreakers waited for the opportunity to install their favorite jailbreak tool again, we offered an interim fix that involved using DNSCloak and Jailbreaks.app.

Wander Shortcuts-based Odyssey jailbreak installer updated to v1.2.1

Odyssey jailbreak loyalists were excited to learn about the Wander Shortcuts extension when it launched just under three months ago. With it, Odyssey users could install and update their jailbreak on-device directly through Apple’s native Shortcuts app.

Following the news that the Odyssey jailbreak tool had been updated to version 1.2 early Friday morning with support for a newly released tfp0 exploit for iOS & iPadOS 13.5.1-13.7, Wander developer BurritoSoftware likewise launched an update for the popular Shortcuts extension, bringing it up to version 1.2.1:

iPAPatcher comes out of beta as developer re-writes tool for v1.0

Just under two weeks ago, developer Brandon Plank launched a beta macOS app dubbed iPAPatcher that allowed users to merge Dynamic Libraries (dylib) or jailbreak tweaks (.deb files) with iPhone or iPad apps (.ipa files) before installing them on a handset of your choosing. In essence, one might describe it as akin to enabling hacks and perks in your favorite apps without the need for a jailbreak.

As of this week, however, iPAPatcher is officially coming out of beta. The source code of version 1.0 of this handy utility is now published on the developer’s GitHub page, and as you might come to expect, it comes with a plethora of improvements that benefit the end user.

AltStore version 1.4 now available with support for AltDaemon & countless improvements

Just yesterday, AltStore lead developer Riley Testut released AltDaemon, a novel package for jailbroken handsets that enables side-loaded apps to be installed, refreshed, and updated on the fly without requiring the end user to connect to a Mac or Windows PC. AltDaemon is, in essence, a future-proof alternative to the popular ReProvision.

While yesterday’s AltDaemon release received praise by jailbreakers from all walks of life, there was just one caveat – it necessitated AltStore version 1.4, which at the time, wasn’t yet available to the general public. Fortunately, that changed this Wednesday evening…

AltDaemon officially released, makes AltStore more computer independent

Anyone who uses a side-loadable jailbreak like Odyssey or unc0ver should be keenly familiar with AltStore, as it quickly overtook Cydia Impactor as the most popular way to install these jailbreak apps on compatible devices after the latter stopped working for a substantial number of users. Like Cydia Impactor, however, AltStore had one major caveat: it required a Mac or Windows PC.

AltStore lead developer Riley Testut sought to change this about the platform’s user experience, and so a beta package for jailbroken devices dubbed AltDaemon was conceived back in June. AltDaemon’s purpose is to make AltStore a computer-independent experience, effectively permitting users to install, refresh, and update side-loaded apps without a computer. As of Tuesday, however, AltDaemon nowis out of beta and available to the general public.

Wander: An add-on for Apple’s Shortcuts app to install the Odyssey jailbreak

The Odyssey Team officially released the Odyssey jailbreak to the general public last week following a limited public beta testing period. While the Odyssey jailbreak can be installed with the AltStore utility for both Mac and Windows, some users might be excited to learn about a new on-device option dubbed Wander by BurritoSoftware, which can be used to deploy an installation shortcut via Apple’s own free Shortcuts app.

Wander is especially made for iOS 13 devices, which makes it an ideal match for the iOS 13-centric Odyssey jailbreak. The new shortcut installs the Odyssey jailbreak with just a tap, and more importantly, is fully compatible with other side-loading utilities including AltStore, ReProvision, and signing services like Jailbreaks.app. The announcement that it would be used by the Odyssey Team was made via Twitter:

Following a month-long period of public beta testing, the Odyssey Team formally moved the Odyssey jailbreak out of beta late Friday night and released the tool for the general public’s enjoyment via the team’s official website.

Not even an hour after the official release, the Odyssey Team released its first update to the public version of its jailbreak tool coined Odyssey v1.0.1. The announcement was shared via Twitter early Saturday morning:

Unless you’re using the checkra1n jailbreak tool, you’ll find that most other jailbreaks require you to side load a special app and deploy it to get your handset into a jailbroken state. Most jailbreakers use AltStore to accomplish this task nowadays, but signing services are another option if you aren’t fortunate enough to have a computer at your disposal.

Joining the party is a brand-new signing service dubbed Jailbreaks.app, which just launched Thursday afternoon. The platform, developed by iCraze and designed by CaspD3V, can be accessed via the native Safari web browser on any iPhone or iPad to download and deploy compatible jailbreak tool(s).

If you’ve used the unc0ver jailbreak to liberate your iPhone or iPad recently, then you’re likely familiar with the AltStore platform, which quickly superseded Cydia Impactor and popular signing services to become the recommended means of side-loading the unc0ver jailbreak due to its long-term dependability and ease of use.

One major caveat to AltStore, however, is that using it would necessitate connecting to a computer to sign the unc0ver app – you’d need to do this the first time you installed unc0ver and every seven days after rebooting your device afterward. But that may not be the case for long…

AltStore first made headlines here at iDB back in February when it became one of the only officially supported means of installing the unc0ver jailbreak throughout a short-lived time when Cydia Impactor was completely broken for the bulk of users. How to install the unc0ver jailbreak on iOS 11.0-14.8 with AltStore

The unc0ver jailbreak supports a semi-untethered jailbreak on iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.3 and a fully unethered jailbreak on arm64e devices (iPhone XS and later) running iOS 14.4-14.5.1, which means that the tool is now compatible with all versions of iOS & iPadOS ranging from 11.0-14.3 (and 14.4-14.5.1 with a big asterisk). To date, AltStore is the best and most reliable way to install the unc0ver jailbreak app on your iPhone or iPad.
