Apple Looking to Expand Bluetooth Support in iOS

Other than a handful of stereo receivers and standalone speakers, there aren't many AirPlay-compatible accessories on the market. Manufacturers haven't really adopted Apple's wireless technology like the company had hoped it would.

So it's no surprise that Macotakara, a Japanese blog known for leaking Apple information, is reporting that the company is looking to rethink wireless connectivity in iOS. The company is now apparently showing a deep interest in Bluetooth.

Apple to Bring AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage to the Mac?

It appears Apple's Mac OS X team is working on integrating two of iOS's biggest features into Mac OS X, with iMessage and AirPlay mirroring apparently in the pipeline.

According to 9to5Mac's sources, the Mac OS X team at Apple is currently working on ways to make both technologies part of a future Lion update, though there are no guarantee that the features will ever see the light of day.

iMessage in particular has been long rumored to be the replacement for iChat we've been waiting for, but AirPlay mirroring could potentially change the way presentations are given using a Mac...

The Loop points to some interesting findings in a recent report by Interpret, a marketing research firm. The work explores the iPad's popularity among both traditional and non-traditional gamers in the United States.

We've known for awhile now that Apple's iOS platform was making the gaming industry nervous, but I don't think we knew how much. Interpret is reporting that the iPad's gaming base has grown to over 8 million in the US alone...

AirPlay Mirroring Could be the Most Exciting Feature in iOS 5

AirPlay has traveled a rocky road over the last year or so. It just doesn't seem to be garnering much support from third party developers (hardware and software).  But that may all change with iOS 5's new Mirroring feature.

We told you about the iPad 2's mirroring capability back in June, but the feature seems to have greatly matured since then. Apple'n'Apps posted another video showing off the new iOS 5 option, and trust me, it looks awesome...

The Apple TV has always had one glaring downfall: there's no bluetooth support. Up until now you had to jailbreak the Apple TV to obtain this feature, but it looks like that could change this Fall.

9to5Mac is reporting that iOS 5 contains hidden code (above) that enables bluetooth in the Apple TV2. While the new function is more than likely for connecting bluetooth keyboards, it does suggest that Apple could have bigger things in store for their TV set-top box...
