Ryan Petrich releases Activator 1.9.8 beta 2 with new screen brightness control settings

Ryan Petrich has released the second beta of Activator 1.9.8, bringing a whole host of new changes to the popular jailbreak tweak. In the update you'll find new localizations, new increase and decrease brightness actions, and several new fixes.

You won't find Activator 1.9.8 beta 2 in the stock Cydia repos, but in this post, I'll show you how you can add Ryan's beta repo to take advantage of the latest Activator features.

How to jump directly to a specific folder with Activator

FolderJumper is a new jailbreak tweak that lets your instantly access a SpringBoard folder by using an Activator gesture. If you have groups of specific apps placed within a folder that you frequently access, then FolderJumper, a $1.99 tweak available on Cydia's BigBoss repo, can make accessing those apps easier.

Activator 1.9.8 beta 1 released

Ryan Petrich has released a brand new update to Activator on his popular beta repo. The update, which brings Activator to version 1.9.8 beta 1, adds several new features and improvements to the staple jailbreak tweak. The update brings improved scrolling in the tweak's preference panel, a clear app switcher action, and other handy new features.

How to use the Home button to activate breadcrumb links [jailbreak]

Homemade Bread is an iOS 9 jailbreak tweak that makes the Home button breadcrumb-aware. This means that when an app forwards you to another app and there’s a “back to app” button in the upper left-hand corner, then a press of the Home button will go back to the previous app instead of closing the current app. The end result is a tweak that lets you use the Home button to activate iOS 9's new breadcrumb links that appear in the status bar.

Activator receives a huge new update for iOS 9 and the iPhone 6s

Activator, the staple jailbreak tweak relied on by many as a standalone release, and by tweak developers as a complementary component, has been updated to version 1.9.7. The update brings a boatload of new changes, features, and fixes to the fore, including support for taptic engine actions, 3D Touch events, and more. Needless to say, if you have a jailbroken iPhone 6s, then this update is for you.

AnySpot for iOS 9: Search Spotlight from anywhere on your jailbroken iPhone

Unless you happen to have a physical Bluetooth keyboard attached to your iPhone or iPad, you cannot invoke Spotlight on iOS 9 unless you happen to be on the Home screen. AnySpot for iOS 9 aims to change this.

AnySpot lets you assign an Activator gesture to Spotlight so that you can access the search interface from anywhere on your iPhone or iPad, even if you happen to be within an app. If you want Spotlight search to work closer to how it works on the Mac, allowing you to access it from anywhere, then you should consider using AnySpot.

Activator for iOS 9 gets a big update with 3D Touch support

Hot on the heels of the earlier initial beta release of Activator for iOS 9, Ryan Petrich has just dropped the public release of Activator 1.9.6. As you might expect, this release adds several new options and iPhone 6s-centric features to the popular tweak. Activator for iOS 9 is now available for download via the BigBoss repo. Check out the rest of this post for the full change log.

A closer look at Activator’s new Application Shortcuts feature

Earlier today, we reported that Ryan Petrich had updated his beta repo, and with it, the Activator beta for iOS 9. The update brought overall compatibility to iOS 9, but more interestingly, it brought about a new feature called Application Shortcuts.

In our previous post about the iOS 9 compatible Activator beta, we briefly touched on the new Application Shortcuts, but in this post, I'd like to dive in a little deeper to show you exactly what these puppies can do, and why they're so cool—even for older pre-iPhone 6s devices.

In a nutshell, Application Shortcuts let you access the shortcuts that are normally only available to 3D Touch capable iPhones on the Home screen, merging them with Activator gestures. The result is a super-cool feature that will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the iOS 9-enabled Activator.

Ryan Petrich releases Activator beta for iOS 9 that includes new shortcut actions

If you've been waiting for Ryan Petrich to release an update to Activator, you've not been alone. The good news is that Ryan has just updated his beta repo with an iOS 9 compatible version of Activator and RocketBootstrap.

Many of the tweaks available on Cydia require Activator as a prerequisite, so not having it meant a lot of tweaks were simply unusable. Now that Ryan has updated Activator with iOS 9 compatibility, many of those tweaks will function like they should.

How to use the iPhone’s proximity sensor as an Activator gesture

ProximityActivator is a recently released tweak that adds a new proximity sensor gesture to your list of Activator gestures. This makes it possible to perform certain actions simply by waving your hand in front of your iPhone.

In the video example that follows, I'll show you how I can invoke the App Switcher by waving my hand in front of my iPhone 5's proximity sensor.

Activator and Flipswitch updated for iOS 8.4

Good news for iOS 8.4 jailbreakers. The public versions of both Activator and Flipswitch are now available for iOS 8.4.

As you likely know, many of the jailbreak tweaks in Cydia rely on both of these releases to work properly. Prior to the update, Activator would cause the SpringBoard to crash and respring into safe mode on iOS 8.4.

Users did have the option of installing the Activator beta as a workaround, but that's no longer a requirement thanks to these updates.
