T-Mobile’s new prepaid plan gives you minutes and text messages at $0.10 each

The nation's fourth-largest wireless operator and the sole 'Uncarrier' in the country on Tuesday announced a brand new Pay As You Go prepaid plan which couldn't be simpler: for a $3 per month minimum charge, it gives you minutes and text messages at $0.10 each.

And if you only occasionally use cellular data on the go, the company now gives you an option to subscribe to 500MB of 4G LTE data per day for a flat fee of $5. Should you need more data, there's also a $10 week-long 1GB pass available so now Pay as You Go customers can finally access T-Mobile's speedy LTE network, too...

Sprint no longer trying to acquire T-Mobile

The Wall Street Journal just announced that Sprint Corp. is terminating its attempts to purchase T-Mobile US Inc, due to regulatory issues. Over the past several months, we've seen several reports that Sprint was in talks with T-Mobile over a buyout deal, and even that the deal was close to finalizing.

If the buyout had taken place, the results would be a decrease in competition and very likely an increase in cellular plan pricing. According to WSJ...

French carrier Iliad makes $15 billion bid for T-Mobile

It appears that Sprint may have some new competition in the T-Mobile suitors club. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that French telecom Iliad has offered to buy T-Mobile U.S., putting in a bid of $15 billion cash for a majority 56.6% stake in the carrier.

Like T-Mobile in the United States, Iliad is the fourth largest wireless provider in France. Founded by billionaire French entrepreneur Xavier Niel, the company has climbed its way to the top by offering better pricing and customer service than the competition...

T-Mobile unveils time-limited $100 per month family plan with 10GB LTE data

"Leaving my office last week, I pulled alongside a bus covered with yet another ad for AT&T’s 'Best-Ever Pricing' for families," writes T-Mobile USA's outspoken CEO John Legere in a blog post Monday.

As is his wont, Legere couldn't resist offering a scathing critique of AT&T's family plan, calling it "funny" because "their deal is no deal at all" compared to the pricing of T-Mobile’s Simple Choice Family Plan.

Regardless, Legere went on to announce a new competitive offering which will be launching later this month to give a family of four a total of ten gigabytes of high-speed LTE data (2.5GB each) in exchange for a cool hundred bucks per month. By comparison, AT&T's “Best-Ever Pricing” offers four lines for $160...

T-Mobile announces accessory payment plans coming July 20th

As expected, T-Mobile has announced that it plans to begin offering accessories under its equipment installment plan. The program, which initially launched last year, allows customers to  purchase mobile devices [and now accessories] for $0 and small monthly payments spread out over two years.

The plan does not require a downpayment for qualified customers, and applies to all accessories priced between $69 and $250. Customers must be a T-Mobile subscriber, with a Simple Choice plan, and if the service is ever terminated, they'll be required to pay the remaining monthly payments in full...

iOS 8 beta 3 enables Wi-Fi Calling for T-Mobile iPhones

Last month, T-Mobile confirmed that it will support iOS 8's new Wi-Fi calling feature when the update officially launches this fall. And today, the feature went live for developers with T-Mobile iPhones in the just-released iOS 8 beta 3.

For those unfamiliar with Wi-Fi calling, it allows users to place phone calls [natively] from their device over a Wi-Fi network, instead of their cellular network. Benefits of the feature include better call quality and improved battery life...

T-Mobile to begin offering accessories on installment plans this month

According to a new report, T-Mobile is set to begin allowing the purchase of accessories on EIPs (or equipment installment plans) later this month. Citing a leaked internal memo from the carrier, TmoNews says that the new option will be available on July 20th.

The move will enable  customers to pick up their favorite accessories, such as Beats headphones or Bluetooth speakers, without having to pay a large sum of cash up front. As it does with smartphones, T-Mobile will split up the price into small, monthly payments...

FTC accuses T-Mobile of placing unauthorized charges on phone bills for years [updated with note from the CEO]

T-Mobile has been aggressively marketing its Uncarrier initiatives to prove that it cares about customers, but the Federal Trade Commission has published a new complaint that accuses the carrier of knowingly cramming bogus charges onto customers' phone bills for years. The FTC claims that T-Mobile made hundreds of millions of dollars by knowingly placing charges for "premium" SMS subscriptions that, most often, were not authorized by customers…

Apple Stores now selling T-Mobile iPhones, $50 discounts available for a limited time

Either an exclusivity window with other carriers has passed or Apple needed some time to figure out how to sell and activate devices with Uncarrier service, but the wait is over - you can now waltz inside an Apple Store and safely buy and activate an iPhone on T-Mobile's prepaid service.

To sweeten the deal, Apple and T-Mobile are treating customers who buy an iPhone with a prepaid T-Mobile plan to a cool $50 discount, for a limited time. Moreover, folks buying an iPhone with T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan will receive a $50 iTunes gift card...

T-Mobile confirms signing up more than 12,000 people to take home a free iPhone 5s for a week

The nation's fourth-largest wireless carrier, T-Mobile, is close to getting acquired by Japan's Softbank-owned Sprint in a deal valued at $40 billion, but that's not stopping them from solving customer pain points.

At last week's ‘Uncarrier 5.0.’ event in Washington, the Deutsche Telekom-owned company has announced a pair of new initiatives - ‘Music Freedom’ and ‘Unradio’.

More importantly, it's launched a new program called ‘Test Drive’ which borrows would-be switchers an iPhone 5s for a seven-day period to test-drive its LTE network. And believe it or not, the carrier has already seen more than 12,000 sign-ups for Text Drive ahead of June 23, when the service actually opens.

Note to Legere: call Apple for more iPhones...

Rhapsody has updated its iOS client, bringing the app to version 3.1. The update brings about a few new features and improvements, but more importantly it adds support for the new unRadio service—Rhapsody's joint venture with T-Mobile announced last night.

Among the new features is a song identification tool called TrackMatch, which allows users to identify and tag songs that are currently playing with a single tap. Rhapsody has also added Live Radio, enabling users to listen to live radio stations from around the world...
