Bill Gates on iPad, Surface and Microsoft’s original tablet vision

Bill Gates was on PBS's Charlie Rose show tonight and he got peppered with questions concerning the iPad's gigantic success and why Microsoft's original tablet vision fell short. Now chairman of Microsoft and a philanthropist, Gates gave honest answers and didn't seem jealous of Apple's success with the iPad as his sidekick Steve Ballmer evidently had been when he laughed off the iPhone back in 2007. Here are your key takeaways...

Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview now available in iTunes

Late last year, some forgotten footage of a Steve Jobs interview from 1996 was discovered in the garage of a TV director. The tape featured an epic 70 minute conversation between Jobs and Robert Clingely.

The recovered interview ended up garnering so much interest, that it actually made it into theaters all across the U.S. But don't worry, if you didn't get a chance to see the film, you can now rent it in iTunes...

Adobe to discontinue mobile Flash installs on August 15th

Last fall, Adobe announced that it was going to be discontinuing its work on mobile Flash. The announcement essentially reaffirmed Apple's, and more specifically Steve Jobs', stance on the tech.

But in case that wasn't clear enough, the developer has just given a deadline for the cease and desist. As of August 15th, Flash will no longer be installable from Android's Google Play Store...

Don’t hold your breath for Files.app in iOS 6, here’s why

Geeks have been holding their breath for direct file system access in iOS ever since the original iPhone's debut five years ago.

Unless you jailbreak, your ability to get down and dirty with the file system is limited by Apple's vision that basically boils down to Jobs' mantra that the app is the only file system you'll ever need.

It would be unwise to bet on Apple progressively breaking away from this kind of philosophy with the introduction of iOS 6 come next Monday, no matter how strongly you may feel about the rumored Files.app.

Here's why. And before you jump straight to the comments, bear in mind that this is just one writer's opinion...

Aaron Sorkin just got interviewed by Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the D10: All Things Digital conference. How Tim Cook is turning Apple into “a more normal company”

Fortune Magazine has Tim Cook on the cover of the June 11 issue with Editor-at-large Adam Lashinsky's feature under the headline How Tim Cook is Changing Apple.

Not only does the cover photo look fabulous, the story itself offers previously unknown details behind Steve Jobs' successor.

One of my favorite highlights: Cook often sits with random employees at lunch.

So, what's Cook been up to, how about the driving force behind his management style and just how effective he's been at replacing a legend...

iSpaceship is a research campus, won’t replace corporate HQ

Apple's ring-shaped, spaceship-like campus wont replace the company's corporate headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California, where approximately 10,000 employees come to work, 9to5Mac has learned.

Instead, the spectacular all-glass structure will serve as research facility office space for an additional 13,000 employees and will provide an additional 300,000 feet of expansion space for future growth.

The publication was able to glean this information from a brochure Apple sent to Cupertino residents as it sought feedback amid concerns that the facility will add to the traffic and change the surrounding area...

The Academy Award-winning writer told reporters that while he still doesn't know what he's going to write just yet, he's sure that the film won't be a "straight ahead biography."
